American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 August 17, 2006 RE: FCC ID: PPIRM-174_ATCB003857 Attention: Thomas Reitmayer I have a few comments on this Application. Please note that further comments may arise in response to answers provided to the questions below. 1. Please note that while there can be up to a 3dB difference in the ERP/EIRP levels between the EMC and SAR reports, when there is a difference the SAR report must be the higher value. Please note that the highest radiated power in the EMC report is 30.3dBM while the highest radiated power in the SAR report is only 28.9dBm. This means that the power level in the SAR is not the higher power level and is about 1.4dB lower than the EMC report. Please address this issue and retest as necessary so the higher power level is recorded in the SAR report as required by the FCC. 2. Dennis Ward mailto:[email protected] The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Failure to provide the requested information may result in application termination. Correspondence should be considered part of the permanent submission and may be viewed from the Internet after a Grant of Equipment Authorization is issued. Please do not respond to this correspondence using the email reply button. In order for your response to be processed expeditiously, you must submit your documents through the AmericanTCB.com website. Also, please note that partial responses increase processing time and should not be submitted. Any questions about the content of this correspondence should be directed to the sender.
Answers FCC ID: PPIRM-174 Applicant: Nokia Copyright © 2006 Nokia GmbH August 21, 2006 RE: FCC ID: PPIRM-174_ATCB003857 Attention: Dennis Ward Following answers regarding your questions of August 17, 2006: Answer 1. EMC report gives peak power readings, but SAR is proportional to time-averaged power. In PPIRM- 174 SAR measurements in slide closed mode, 2-slot GPRS gave higher SAR result than 1-slot GSM. Based on this finding (2-slot GPRS giving higher SAR results than 1-slot GSM) the rest of the measurements were made only in 2-slot GPRS mode. Even though the above logic has resulted in the maximum peak power test case (GSM, slide open) being missed out, the chosen test cases are justified from SAR point of view.
