Oct. 30, 2003 TIMCO ENGINEERING INC. P.O. Box 370 849 N.W. State Road 45 Newberry, Florida Subject: Type Acceptance Application under FCC 47 CFR, Parts 2 and 90 (Subpart I) - Non-Broadcast Radio Transceivers Operating in the frequency bands 806-821 MHz (25 kHz Channel Spacing) and 821-824 MHz (12.5 kHz Channel Spacing). Applicant: Wavenet Technology PTY. LTD. Product: Boomer II Data TAC Wireless OEM Modem Module Model: BM2-800D FCC ID: PQS-BM2800D Dear Sir/Madam, As appointed agent for Wavenet Technology PTY. LTD., we would like to submit the application for FCC certification of the above product. Please review all necessary files uploaded to TIMCO Upload Site. The Boomer II Model BM2-800D was certified by FCC under PQS-BM28001. However, the original FCC Grant was restricted for use with maximum ERP of 1.9 Watts, a specific antenna and duty cycle of 10% which does not allow the manufacturer the flexibility to market their product. Therefore, the manufacturer wish to apply for a new FCC Grant with the following new specifications without any modifications on the original certified product: (1) Conducted of RF output power of 2.1 watts as measured by Ultratech. Please note that the conducted power measured on the original application was incorrect, we assume the cable loss was added to the power measurement; therefore, it shows unusual low level. (2) The maximum duty cycle is 30% (3) The antenna separation is changed according to new antenna gain limits specified in the Uses Manual. This application is subject to Modular Approval per FCC DA 00-1407 for Mobile and Base application only. A new FCC certification with SAR compliance for a Portable OEM product, which employs this radio, is required. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Equipment :Wireless OEM Modem Module Model :BOOMER II 800 MHz ENGINEERING SUMMARY This report contains the results of the evaluation performed on the Wavenet OEM Wireless Modem, Model BOOMER II 800MHz. The tests were carried out in accordance with the applicable requirements of FCC rules found in 47CFR §2.1091 and the standards ANSI/IEEE C95.1-1999 and C95.3-1992. The Wireless OEM Module is an 800 MHz OEM product for integration into customer end user equipment as an OEM modem and interfaces to it via the data interface port. It was tested using a whip standard ¼ wave portable antenna mounted on a ground plane and the unit connected to a test jig. The output power of the unit was set at maximum value and running with 100% duty cycle. The modem provides two available bands: a) 806-821 MHz and b) 821-824 MHz. The bands are firmware controlled and can not be switched by the user. The DUI was tested on two frequencies: 806 MHz (low channel of 806-821 MHz band) and 821 MHz (low channel of 821-824 MHz band) which has the highest ERP among three channels. The methodology and results for the tests are described in the appropriate section of this report. The maximum RF-power exposure level measured at 20 cm from the antenna for 806-821 MHz band was 0.178 mW/cm 2 . The maximum power exposure level measured at 20 cm from the antenna for 821- 824 MHz band was 0.145 mW/cm 2 . Users and installers should be provided with the appropriate operating instructions regarding safe distances, for satisfying RF exposure compliance. Boomer II User Manual & Integrator’s Guide ____________________________________________ Integrator’s Task BM210012WT37 23 Copyright Wavenet Technology © November 2003 For “mobile or fixed devices”, defined as transmitting devices designed to be generally used such that a separation distance of at least 20 cm is maintained between the body of the user and the transmitting radiated structure, Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) limits may be used with field strength or power density limit of 0.537 mW/cm 2 at 806 MHz or 0.597 mW/cm 2 at 896 MHz. Output is specified at the antenna terminal of this module. This modular transmitter is only approved for OEM integration into final products that satisfy MPE categorical Exclusion Requirements of 2.1091 of the FCC rules. Accordingly the final product and its antenna must operate with: A. A minimum separation distance of 20 cm or more from all persons using an antenna with gain not exceeding 3dBd (or 5 dBi) in fixed or mobile applications or, B. A minimum separation distance of 25 cm or more from all persons using an antenna with gain not exceeding 6 dBd in fixed applications only or, C. A minimum separation distance of 35 cm or more from all persons using an antenna with gain not exceeding 9 dBd in fixed applications only or, D. A minimum separation distance of 50 cm or more from all persons using an antenna with gain not exceeding 12 dBd in fixed applications only. Note: The use of an antenna with gain greater than 5dBi for Mobile applications will require an MPE measurement to satisfy the RF Exposure requirements of 2.1091 of the FCC rules and notification of the separation distance to all users and applicable documentation. Separate approval is required for this module to operate in portable products with respect to 2.1093 of FCC rules. If the Boomer-II OEM Modem Module is used in a mobile or fixed application and if the integrator uses one of the above antennae configurations the MPE limits will not be exceeded. In this case, the following clause should be included in the installation and user documentation: "To satisfy FCC RF exposure requirements a separation distance of XX cm or more should be maintained between the antenna of this device and persons during device operation. To ensure compliance, operations at closer than this distance is not recommended.” Where the actual separation distance (XX) corresponds to the specific antenna configuration used as previously detailed.
