It enables access to worldwide DataTAC wireless networks in the USA, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia. This technology offers the following unique benefits to the PDA user. • Dualwave V’s unique PUSH technology “wakes up” the PDA and immediately alerts you of a new message. • The serial port provides three additional functions for the PDA user by: -Allowing the use of modem function for transmitting and receiving data to a PC - Exchanging and updating data between PDA and computer. - Allowing the simultaneous charging of the PDA and Modem batteries. Using additional software, the Dualwave V effectively turns your PDA into a wireless window on the web and lets you use your existing e-mail accounts for mail. This manual provides details on how to set up, charge and use the Dualwave V. There is a troubleshooting section to the rear of the manual and a section on the care and maintenance of your new Dualwave V. Specifications are displayed on the last page. Features The Dualwave V has the following features: • Form hugging clip-on modem suitable for Palm V/Vx ™ (and IBM Workpad ® c3) PDAs. • Secure locking mechanism. • May be used independently as a wireless modem for PC/laptop by using additional software. • Roaming capabilities as used in RDLAP system. • Modem is always online using the DataTAC network. • Auto wake up of PDAs from incoming messages. • HotSync ® button for synchronising data between PDA and PC. • Extended battery life (5 days standby, 14 hours communication time). • High sensitivity reception. • Indicator lights shows the status of the network coverage and battery condition. FCC ID: PQSWAVENET-DUAL-V Applicant: Wavenet Technologies Pty Ltd Equipment: PDA Wireless Modem Attachment for a Palm V/Vx Model: DWV 100D Standard: FCC 96 –326, Guidelines for Evaluating the Environmental Effects of Radio- Frequency Radiation ENGINEERING SUMMARY This report contains the results of the engineering evaluation performed on the DWV 100D Attachment for a Palm V/Vx. The measurements were carried out in accordance with FCC 96- 326. The DWV 100D was evaluated for its maximum power level 1.862 (ERP) with a 7 % duty cycle. The DWV 100D modem is an attachment for a Palm PDA. The device can also be attached to a desktop PC. The DWV 100D was tested at low, middle and high channels for the keyboard up, keyboard down, and right sides for body, hand, and bystander exposure while attached to the PDA only. The maximum 10g SAR (0.63 W/kg) was found to coincide with the peak performance RF output power of channel 2000 (806 MHz) for the Keyboard Down of the device. (The hot spot is located near the base of the antenna). The maximum 1g SAR (0.89 W/kg) was found to coincide with the peak performance RF output power of channel 2000 (806 MHz) for the Keyboard Down of the device. (The hot spot is located near the base of the antenna). Test data and graphs are presented in this report. The DWV 100D was tested at low, middle and high channels for the keyboard up, keyboard down, and right sides for bystander exposure while attached to a desktop PC with and without the PDA. The maximum measured value was found to coincide with the peak performance RF output power of channel 2000 (806 MHz) for the Keyboard Down of the device. At a separation distance of 0 cm from the antenna of the device, the maximum 1g SAR is 0.95 W/kg. Based on the test results and on how the device will be marketed and used, it is certified that the product meets the requirements as set forth in the above specifications, for the RF exposure environment. (The results presented in this report relate only to the sample tested.) Page 3 of 18 Project #:WVTB-Palm V Motient Cradle-3731 51 Spectrum Way Tel. The measurements were carried out in accordance with the FCC Rules and Regulations Part 2.1049. The product was evaluated for bandwidth when it was set at the maximum power level. The PDA Wireless Modem is an attachment for a Palm PDA and it can also be attached to a PC. However, the Bandwidth Limitation was carried out only on PDA Wireless Modem attached to Palm V, as bandwidth does not change due to different configurations. Modulation Characteristics (FCC Rule PART 2.1047): This test is not applicable, as the device is not capable of voice transmission. Limiting of Modulation: The Modulation levels are fixed for digital modulation levels only and are digitally generated. The Modulation deviation is set during manufacture to the standard RD LAP 19.2 kbps 4 level FSK modulation and MDC 4.8 kbps 2 level FSK. This format is digital non-voice data only, continuous frequency, continuous phase, and frequency shift keying, narrow band frequency modulation.
