The Proximity Reader and the Piezoelectric Keypad. ASPKB supports the following operation modes: 1. Prox – Pin. Present Prox card. The unit will read the content and send it over the Data wires to the host. Enter PIN code following by # key. The unit will send the PIN code over the same Data wires to the host. The Keypad and the Prox reader are interlocked so that when one is functioning the other is inhibited until the data is transmitted. 2. Prox Only. The prox electronics is independently communicating via Data wires. 3. Keypad only. The keypad electronics is independently communicating via Data wires. Verification Power up the unit. During the first 5 seconds it is possible to reprogram the Site code (see instructions) the unit will activate the buzzer and the Yellow LED 3 times. In the same time the RED or the Green LED will come ON depending on the Central Computer setup. Present a valid HID encrypted card at 5 cm distance maximum. The unit will activate the Buzzer and the Yellow Led once. Enter any combination of PIN code up to 65534 followed by #. The unit will activate the Buzzer and the Yellow Led once. October 24, 2002 American TCB 6731 Whittier Ave Suite C110 McLean, VA 22101 USA Subject: Request for confidentiality of ASPKB transmitter, FCC ID: QNXASPKB Dear Gentlemen: We apply to you with request to withhold Baran Advanced Technologies (1986) Ltd trade secrets in Application for Certification for FCC ID: QNXASPKB. These trade secrets can be found in the transmitter schematic diagram (2 pages of this Application) and the Bill of materials (2 pages of this application). Many thanks in advance. Sincerely yours Yossi Ron President & CEO
American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 October 23, 2002 RE: Baran Advanced Technologies (1986) Ltd. FCC ID: QNX-ASPKB After a review of the submitted information, I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. 1) The operational description for this device states that the unit contains a serial protocol output. If the unit contains an serial (RS232) output, then the EUT may be considered to be a composite device subject to both the requirements of a PC Peripheral & TX requirements, if its intended use in some instances is to connected to a PC (requiring certification or DoC authorization, or possibly verification depending on intended use). Please explain. 2) Please provide close up internal photographs of the top and bottom of each independent board, including the transmitter board and antenna if possible. 3) Regarding the Transmitter schematics, please provide one of the following: a) A schematic of the RF TX portion of the device. b) Alternatively, if the radio is a modular component from a different manufacturer, you may instead provide a parts list that shows the Module as a part from a different manufacturer. If the parts list is provided, please be sure to let us know if confidentiality is requested on it and update the confidentiality letter if necessary. 4) The loop antenna was positioned vertically and rotated about its axis. However, the EUT should also be tested with the loop antenna positioned about the horizontal axis. Please provide additional test data or attestations as to the worse case positioning of the loop antenna. 5) Please provide an occupied bandwidth plot, taking care to show compliance of the occupied bandwidth with respect to the restricted band located at 90-110 kHz. American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 October 28, 2002 RE: Baran Advanced Technologies (1986) Ltd. FCC ID: QNX-ASPKB After a review of the submitted information, I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. 1) Regarding your response to previous question 5), we realize that the field strength is significantly below the limits. However "only spurious emissions are permitted in the restricted bands" as specified by 15.205. Sidebands of the fundamental are classified as part of the fundamental until they are at least 26 dB below the fundamental level. The EUT appears to meet this requirement, but due to the proximity of the fundamental level to the ground floor (only about 10 dB delta is shown @ 3 meters), compliance can not be assured for any spurs or side lobes that could occur. Please provide an occupied bandwidth plot that clearly shows compliance with the restricted band 90-110 kHz. 2) FYI, Regarding previous question 4), we will accept this explanation for this application, however please note that ANSI C63.4 8.2.1 does reference both horizontal and vertical polarizations for use of the loop antenna. For future applications when the fundamental is < 30 MHz where the loop antenna is used, please be sure that the test procedure for the loop antenna includes additional measurement in the horizontal position. From: Valeria Mednikov <[email protected]> To: "'[email protected]'" <[email protected]> Subject: QNX-ASPKB Date: Mon, 28 Oct 2002 16:28:08 +0200 X-Mailer: Internet Mail Service (5.5.2653.19) FCC ID: QNX-ASPKB In reply to e-mail dated October 23, 2002 Dear Mr. Johnson, Below are the answers to your questions. 1. Please find an answer of Baran Advanced Technologies: The proximity unit ASPKB is intended to communicate using Wiegand 26 protocol with an external controller. Some applications use RS232 protocol. The unit is definitely not intended to be used in conjunction to Personal Computer of any kind. 2. Please find the requested internal photographs (Internal photos_new.pdf), submitted via "Add to existing application", Internal photos folder on October 28, 2002. 3. Please refer to Item 39 of the Parts list (PROX_BOM.pdf), submitted via "Add to existing application", Parts list folder on October 28, 2002. The updated Confidentiality letter was submitted via "Add to existing application", Additional Information folder on October 28, 2002. 4. ANSI C63.4 requires the use of a loop antenna positioned with its plane vertical (§ 8.2.1). It is our opinion, that the measuring of a table-top transmitter in three orthogonal planes together with rotating the turntable 360 ° ensures the finding of maximum radiation when the loop antenna is positioned vertically, and positioning loop horizontally is considered unnecessary. 5. Please refer to Plot 1 in Annex A of the test report. The limit line according to §15.209 is shown on the plot, and it can be seen that all emissions in 9 - 150 kHz range (including those in the restricted band at 90-110 kHz) are more than 60 dB below the limit, therefore further investigation of emission levels in this range was considered unnecessary. With great respect, Valeria Page 1 of 1Valeria Mednikov, 09:28 AM 10/28/2002, QNX-ASPKB 10/28/2002Printed for "Timothy R. Johnson" <[email protected]>

Functional Description of QNX-ASPKB The QNX-ASPKB consists of the following components: 1. Piezoelectric Keypad 2. Proximity Reader. 3. Antenna The a. m. components are linked to an electronic board that takes care of the unit proper functioning. The QNX-ASPKB functioning is as follows: When an appropriate encoded Proximity Card is presented within the antenna’s sensing range (approx 5 cm ) the data from the Card is transferred to the Electronic board. The electronic board Decodes the encryption into a Serial Protocol ( for example Wiegand ) and sends it to a Host computer. The Host validates the data and issues the appropriate command, for example ( open Door ). Some applications require that the Data collected from the Proximity card should be accompanied by a PIN number. In those cases the Piezoelectric Keypad is used to KEY-In the PIN number. The unit functions as follows: First the Proximity Card is presented and after the QNX-ASPKB reads the data and sends it to the Host, the Card Owner must Key-In the personal PIN number that matches the Card. Then the Host decides what command should be issued. The QNX-ASPKB is equipped with a Buzzer and LEDs to facilitate the Human Machine Interface. A drawing of an integral antenna, manufactured by STANDEX, is shown on the next page:
