Installation Overview Under Windows 9x/Me/2000/XP This section provides a quick step by step guide on how to install the WaveBuddy WLAN PC Card / PCI Adapter / USB Adapter. Please follow the steps described below and refer to the User Guide for further details: The WaveBuddy WLAN PCI Adapter is a WLAN/56K Modem combo. If you do not WaveBuddy WLAN PCI Adapter 11Wave Technology Inc. 2 need the modem capability, please skip its installation process. 1. Turn your PC off, and remove the power cord. Plug in your WaveBuddy WLAN PCI with modem card into a free slot. 2. Restart your PC, Windows will instantly detect the WaveBuddy WLAN card and the Smart Link 56K Modem card will start software installation. 3. For the WaveBuddy WLAN PCI Adapter: 1) Please select “Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)”. 2) Click on “Next”. 3) Please select “Specify a location” as shown in the following. 4) Please insert the CD as given into CD-ROM. 5) Browse to your CD-ROM drive and go to \WaveBuddy\WLAN Card & Adapter\Drivers \PCI-miniPCI\OS\ and click on “OK”. Please select the correct OS you are using. 6) Click on “Next”. 7) Window will automatically look for the proper driver itself. 8) Click on “Next”. 9) Please click on “Yes” to continue the installation. 10) Windows has finished installing the WLAN software. Please click on “Finish”. For Smart Link 56K Modem card, follow the same steps. Its driver can be found in D:\WaveBuddy\WLAN Card & Adapter\Drivers\ PCI-miniPCI\Modem\OS\. Insert the given Installation CD into your CD-ROM driver. Unless you have deactivated the autorun feature of Windows, the screen shown below should appear automatically. If this screen doesn’t appear automatically, you can access the installation by clicking the Autorun button and choosing Run. In the drop-down box provided type D:\Autorun.exe (where D: is the letter of your CD-ROM drive). Alternately, double-click My Computer and double-click the Autorun.exe icon in the folder that appears or browse to your CD-ROM drive and go to \WaveBuddy\WLAN Card & Adapter\ WLAN Monitor Utility\ and click on the Setup.exe. 11Wave Technology Inc. 3 Step 2. Click on the “Install WLAN Monitor” button to start the driver and application installation process. Step 3. During the setup process, it will appear prompting you to select the Setup type you are going to install. Step 5. Choose the “Custom” installation. The setup procedure described below installs both the drivers and the Configuration & Monitor Utility. Install the drivers and application: Step 1. B: Antenna A or B switch. 2: RF5117 : 2.4GHz Power Amplifier RF5117 is a linear, medium-power, high-efficiency amplifier IC designed specifically for battery-powered WLAN applications .The devices manufactured on an advanced Gallium Arsendie Heterojunction Bipolar Transistor(HBT) process, and has been designed for use as the Final RF amplifier in 2.5GHz WLAN and other spread-spectrum transmitters. The device is provider in a 3mmX3mm, 16 pin, leadless chip carrier with a backside ground. The RF5117 is designed to maintain linearity over a wide range of supply voltage and power output. RF5117 requires only a single positive supply of 3.0V nominal(or greater) to operate to full specifications. Power control is provided through two bias control input pins (Vreg1 and Vreg2). External matching on the input and output . Both the input and the output of the device need a series DC-blocking capacitor. Capacitor used as a matching component can also serve as the blocking Cap. For the transmit side, a QPSK modulator and the upconverter are provided. The design reuses the IF SAW filter for transmit and receive deducing the number of SAW filters required. RF2948 is also designed to be of a 2.4GHz chipset consisting of the RF2494 LNA/Mixer. The IC contains all of the required components to implement the RF functions of the receiver except for the passive filtering and LO generation. It contains an LNA, a second RF amplifier and a doubly balanced mixer. The output of the LNA is made available as an output to permit the insertion of a bandpass filter between the LNA and the RF/Mixer section. The mixer outputs can beselectively disabled to allow for the IF filter to be used in the transmit mode. The cascaded power gain of the LNA/Mixer is 29dB, which after insertion loss in the image filter(`3dB) and IF SAW filter(~1-dB), still gives 16dB of gain prior to the IF Amps. Because of this, the noise figure of the IF Amps should not significantly degrade system noise figure. AT76C502A is a single-chip controller that provides all processing and functionality needed for the MAC protocol of wireless LANs(focusing on, but not limited to the IEEE802.11b standard). It provides a glueless interface conforming to PC Card 95 and can control a variety of physical interfaces. AT76C502A chip contains a PCMCIA bus interface, a universal serial bus interface , a MAC control unit and a physical attachment interface(PAI). The PAI supports direct-sequence spread spectrum and frequency-hopping spread spectrum(2 Mbps) physical interfaces, providing flexibility to end users.
