Exhibit A: Cover Letter From Agent FCC ID: QYUELITEHRM NORTHWEST EMC, INC. 22975 NW Evergreen Parkway, Suite 400 Hillsboro, OR 97124 March 13, 2003 Dear Application Examiner: On behalf of Nike, Northwest EMC Inc is submitting this application for the certification of Nike’s SMA010 transmitter, FCC ID: QYUELITEHRM. It operates 916.5 MHz (center frequency) utilizing On-Off-Keying (OOK) modulation. The transmitter is contained in a chest strap and is intended to be used with a watch receiver (that has FCC authorization) to display real time heart rate data on the watch during exercise. When the strap is worn on the chest and powered on, it transmits the users current heart rate in beats per minute to the watch, about 1 meter away. The transmitter contains an integral antenna that is etched onto the circuit board. This satisfies the requirements of 47 CFR 15.203. The Northwest EMC technical report is supplied in support of this antenna. The technical reports and exhibits demonstrate compliance with FCC rules 47 CFR 15.249. To facilitate the review process, an index of exhibits has been provided. Your efforts in reviewing this application are greatly appreciated. Best regards, Greg Kiemel, Director of Engineering Northwest EMC, Inc.
