Radio and Television Interference This Wireless Temperature Sensor has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. The Wireless Temperature Sensor generates and radiates radio frequency energy and if not installed and used in accordance with instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If the Wireless Temperature Sensor does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. • Increase the separation between the Wireless Temperature Sensor and the receiver. • Consult the dealer that installed the Wireless Temperature Sensor for help. • In order to maintain compliance with FCC regulations, the Wireless Temperature Sensor must not be modifi ed in any way and only approved batteries must be used. Name the sensor When Emme Core receives the learn packet it will prompt you with a keyboard to name the sensor. This could take up to 10 sec. Name the sensor and press ok Press the setup button Press the setup button on the Emme Core Display and Control Unit. Press the sensors button From the setup screen, press the sensors button. Press the Add button From the sensors screen press Add . Remove the back plate Place a fi nger over the opening on the sensor back plate; hold the sensor at the top and pry apart slowly from the bottom. If needed, place a small fl at-head screw driver in the slot at the bottom of the sensor and twist gently. 1 56 23 4 (+) positive side Continued on back Continue Here Attach the cover When the back plate is mounted carefully attach the sensor cover to the back plate; attach the top of the cover fi rst and gently push the bottom until it locks into place. ©2010 EmmePN#100.0072 VER1.1 JUN2011 9 Wireless Temperature Sensor Quick Setup Guide Verify Emme Core is still receiving the Wireless Temperature Sensor After you mount the Wireless Temperature Sensor, return to the Emme Core display and make sure it still has at least two bars of reception and is displaying a temperature. 10 OR Choose a mounting method There are two basic techniques for affi xing a Wireless Temperature Sensor to the wall: A using a screw or nail; or B , the preferred method, using a Poster Strip Command™ Adhesive (included). Command is a trademark of 3M and is not affi liated with Emme. Verify all the information is correct Select and remove if necessary. 87 Using a screw or nail (not included) Use a screw or nail appropriate for mounting the back plate; the head diameter may be no larger than 0.35” and the shaft diameter may be no larger than 0.16” . Place the screw/ nail through the mounting hole on the back plate and carefully attach to a smooth, clean mounting surface. A Using a Poster Strip Command™ Adhesive (included) Using a two sided Poster Strip Command™ Adhesive, attach one side to the back plate, make sure the WALL side is toward the mounting surface and the removal tab is accessible through the opening on the back plate. Press the back plate against the mounting surface for ten seconds. Using the locking screw to prevent tampering Every Wireless Temperature Sensor includes a locking screw attached to the interior of the back plate. Using the locking screw will prevent the sensor from being opened and removed from the mounting location. Ensure removal tab is accessible when placed against mounting surface Place Command™ Adhesive in the recess on the back of the back plate. Ensure WALL side is toward the mounting surface. B NOTE: The Wireless Temperature Sensor should always be installed and set up by an HVAC service professional. In order for the Wireless Temperature Sensor to function properly, correct placement is crucial. You should help the customer to determine the proper location for each Wireless Temperature Sensor so that they are in a convenient location away from sources that could artifi cially infl uence room temperature. Do not remove Wireless Temperature Sensors from their assigned areas. Do not place Wireless Temperature Sensors: Behind doors, in corners, or in other dead-air spaces. • In direct sunlight or near lamps, appliances, or other sources of radiant heat. • On outside walls or walls exposed to unconditioned spaces such as garages. • In the fl ow path of a supply register, in stairways, or near outside doors. • On walls where concealed pipes or ductwork can aff ect the sensor. • Near sources of electrical interferen…

Compliance with CFR Title 47, Paragraph 15.203 The SmartSensor model SS-01 complies with the requirements of paragraph 15.203 because the antenna is permanently attached to the circuitry as a part of the printed circuit board. It is not accessible from outside the enclosure.
RF Exposure The SmartSensor model SS-01 qualifies as a mobile device under CFR 4 Paragraph 2.1091. It is designed to be installed on the wall of a room or placed on a flat surface so it can accurately sense the temperature of that room. It is not subject to routine environmental evaluation for RF exposure because it is a mobile device certified under Part 15.231(e) and as such is categorically excluded from such evaluation per Part 2.1091(c). The maximum output power of the transmitter is 8 dBm when connected to an optimal antenna impedance in the frequency range used. It is operated 6 dBm lower than the maximum power via software settings. The printed circuit board trace serving as a loop antenna has a gain of approximately -9 dB. Due to its lower power RF output and status as a mobile transmitter, the SmartSensor is not a cause for worry and thus no cautionary statements are provided in device documentation.
