Warranty TomTom Car Connect must be professionally installed to be covered by our full warranty. To ensure that the customer’s full warranty is valid they will need to have a proof of purchase and proof of professional installation. Compatibility Does the TomTom have the latest version of the application? TomTom Car Connect is compatible with TomTom GO 510, 710, 910. The application on the TomTom must be version 6.52 or above. To find the application version, tap the bottom right hand corner of the status bar in the Driving View. The version number of the application is shown in the bottom right hand corner of the next screen. To download the latest application, use TomTom HOME or visit www.tomtom.com/support Does the car have ISO-compliant connectors? The cable harness supplied in the box is for ISO-compliant cable harnesses only. If your car connectors are not ISO- compliant, you will need a different cable harness. Does the stereo have an 'Aux in' socket? If the car stereo does not have an 'AUX in' socket, you may need to use either an external amplifier or a 'CD-changer to AUX in' adaptor. Safety checklist •Preventing electromagnetic interference Car Connect and any cables attached to Car Connect must be kept as far away as possible from antennas or leads for TV, FM and AM radio, and GPS. bristol_qsg.book Page 4 Monday, September 18, 2006 2:14 PM EN Before you start 5 •Check voltage Car Connect works with 12-volt batteries with a negative grounding, so please check the battery voltage before you start. •Check the user manual To be sure all connections are correct, always refer to the user manual for details. Wiring safety • If needed use cable clamps or tape to secure all connections. • Make sure none of the leads are trapped between Car Connect and the surrounding metalwork or fittings. • Always wrap tape around wires near metal parts. • Keep wires away from moving parts or places which get hot or wet, like heater outlets or doors. • If in doubt about wire colour coding, check the user manual, as the same colours can have different functions in different systems. • Do not shorten any cables. • Never tap into the Car Connect power supply lead. Unauthorized parts Installation can vary depending on the model of the vehicle. Additional equipment may be required. Use only the parts included in the Car Connect box or recommended by TomTom, as the use of unauthorized parts can cause malfunctions. Modifications Check with the vehicle manufacturer's dealership if you have to drill holes or modify the vehicle in any way. Always check behind any place where you need to drill a hole to avoid damaging other parts. To avoid short circuits, disconnect the negative “-” battery terminal before you start dismantling the dashboard. 2. Connect the cable harness to the car stereo and then to Car Connect using the 20 pin connector. Connector shown from cable entry side. Connect the line out to the 'AUX in' socket. 4. Connect the microphone lead to the 'MIC in' socket. 5. Attach Car Connect to a suitable fixed object like a cable harness using the tie wraps supplied. 6. Double-check that all connections are correct. 7. Reconnect the negative “-” cable to the negative “-” terminal of the battery. System Set-up 1. Turn on the ignition to activate Car Connect. 2. Place the TomTom in the windscreen dock and switch it on. 3. Tap Speaker Preferences in the Preferences menu. 4. Choose the sound set-up you want for Car Connect. There are two options: •Play music over external speaker •Play spoken instructions over external speaker You can select any combination of these options. Note: If the car stereo does not have an 'AUX in' socket, you may need to use either an external amplifier or a 'CD- changer to AUX in' adaptor. Note: Hands-free calls are always played using Car Connect.
