It can be seen below: CIC WL Fusion 2 – Typical Radio Model Assembly The most important parts of the module are an amplifier (containing a Digital-Signal-Processor (DSP), a radio Front-End (FE), memory and smaller components), a battery and a coil antenna, all mounted on a plastic faceplate. The microphone is also mounted on the faceplate and externally to it there is normally also an audio receiver/speaker and some optional push buttons, but they are not part of the radio model. The radio model is intended to be installed in Oticon and affiliated wireless hearing aid devices of CIC WL (Completely-In-the Canal) and IIC WL (Invisible-In-the Canal) wearing styles. The DSP is the main processor controlling the amplifiers functionality and the FE is a complete radio transceiver, including both transmitter, receiver and local oscillators. The module also includes all voltage regulators inside the DSP and FE and buffered data programming inputs (PC_DATA and PC_CLOCK) on board. CIC WL Fusion 2 – Amplifier Assembly in 2D The module only requires a battery, an external microphone and speaker to be attached in order to run. All components are kept in place by the face plate as mechanical carrier for the radio model. PEOPLE FIRST www.oticon.com Main +45 39 17 71 00 Fax +45 39 27 79 00 CVR-no. 42334219 Oticon A/S Kongebakken 9 DK-2765 Smørum Denmark Federal Communication Commission Equipment Authorization Division, Application Processing Branch 7435 Oakland Mills Road Columbia, MD 21048 19 th of June 2014 Oticon Fusion 2 based wireless CIC WL module FCC ID: U28FU2CICWL Limited Modular Approval Request We would like to approve the above product as a Limited Modular Approval in accordance with FCC Public Notice KDB 996369 D01 Module Certification Guide v01r03, released July 2011, and the rules of the Commission regarding modular transmitters (§15.212) operating under FCC’s part 15 about RF Devices. The requirements are met as follows:  15.212(a)(1)(i) The radio module has no own RF shielding. Therefore we apply for a Limited Modular Approval (See also §15.212(b)). The module is constrained to be used by Oticon A/S and affiliated companies or sold to Original Equipment Manufactures (OEM) only. The module contains a weak RF transmitter and therefore fulfils Part 15 emission limits without any additional RF shielding. The module is a fully integrated and inseparable part of an amplifier module for CIC WL (and IIC WL) styles hearing aids only. Therefore the radio module and the complete audio amplifier containing it cannot be used by end users. The behaviour of the wireless module is locked by the design and can only be changed by Oticon A/S, so the compliance of the end product is always ensured. (See further descriptions in the radio model installation guide and/or user manual)  15.212(a)(1)(ii) The amplifier module includes buffer stages for its external data/programming inputs.  15.212(a)(1)(iii) The wireless part of the amplifier module shares the power supply with the digital signal processing (DSP) part of the amplifier module. Therefore we apply for a Limited Modular Approval with the same argumentation as in point 15.212(a)(1)(i).  15.212(a)(1)(iv) The radio part of the amplifier module has a coil antenna soldered via two short wires to its PCB, all parts inside a hearing aid, why the antenna is not accessible or interchangable by the end user.  15.212(a)(1)(v) The radio module is included in the amplifier module, which includes a DSP host and as such was tested in a stand-alone configuration as can be seen in annex D of the CETECOM Test Report No. 1- 7983/14-02-01. The amplifier requires no external host, only some external plastic parts e.g. holding the battery and audio transducers.  15.212(a)(1)(vi) The size of the whole amplifier module (radio and DSP) is less than 1/2 inch so the labelling information is located in the user manual and/or installation guide.  15.212(a)(1)(vii) The amplifier module is compliant with all applicable FCC rules. Maintenance of compliance is always ensured as only Oticon A/S or affiliated companies are able to alter the antenna or other wireless related behaviours.  15.212(a)(1)(viii) The amplifier module is compliant with all applicable RF exposure requirements. Maintenance of compliance is always ensured as only Oticon A/S or affiliated companies are able to alter the antenna or other wireless related behaviours. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at the address shown below Sincerely, Lars Bresler, QM-manager Oticon A/S Kongebakken 9 2765 Smorum - DK-Denmark Phone: +45 3913 7100
