The VQ1000 is equipped with a wireless remote control to allow quick, one person positioning of the antenna while monitoring the signal meter screen on your TV. SECTION 1 OVERVIEW AND CONNECTIONS REMOTE CONTROL The VQ1000 comes with the following items (Fig. 1): 1. Antenna Unit 2. Remote Control (Fig. 2) 3. 50’ Coax Cable You will also need: 4. Point the handle to the north (this will speed up search time). 2. Connect coax cable from the VuQube to the SATELLITE IN port on the receiver. 3. Go to OPERATION on page 4. POSITION AND CONNECT THE VUQUBE Note: Hand tighten coax connections. DO NOT USE A WRENCH. Make sure to connect coax to SATELLITE IN on the set top box. Do not allow the coax cable to become bent or kinked. Do not leave the coax cable where it can be tripped on or run over by a vehicle. Satellite TV subscription service also required. Page 4 DRAFT 05-20-10 SATELLITE ACQUISITION 1. Determine your elevation from the appropriate map in Section 4 ELEVATION MAPS, or by entering your current location’s zip code in the satellite receiver prior to navigating to the signal meter screen (see receiver’s owner’s manual). 2. Follow the instructions in your receiver’s owner’s manual and navigate to the signal meter screen. Select the appropriate transponder: DISH Network ® = 11 DIRECTV ® = 19 2. Press and hold POWER until remote turns ON. The remote will display the antenna’s current elevation. 3. Use the UP and DOWN arrows to match the antenna’s elevation (on the remote) to the elevation you determined from the map or your receiver. 4. Watch the signal meter screen on the TV. Use the LEFT and RIGHT arrows to rotate the antenna and watch for signal strength to appear on the screen. IMPORTANT: STEP 4. You must watch the TV for signal strength while rotating the antenna in step 4. See your receiver’s owner’s manual to determine how to display the signal meter screen on your TV. When pressing the left and right arrows, the remote will continuously beep with a short pause in between: beep - beep - beep... If the unit reaches its rotational limit in either direction, the remote will display REVERSE DIRECTION and beep rapidly: beep beep beep... Press other arrow to reverse rotation. IMPORTANT: For satellite acquisition, there must be a clear “line of sight” to the southern sky. Mountains, buildings, trees, telephone poles, etc. can all block the satellite signal from reaching the dish. Note: Pressing and releasing buttons on the remote control will produce an electronic click. SECTION 2 OPERATION Page 5 DRAFT 05-20-10 5. When signal strength appears, stop rotating the antenna. Use the up, down, left and right arrows as necessary to maximize the satellite signal. 6. Press POWER until the remote turns off (approximately 1 second). The remote turns off automatically if no buttons are pressed for 90 seconds. 7. Exit the Signal Meter Screen to view your programming. Enjoy! STORE / RECALL You can STOREup to 4 satellite positions using the STORE/RECALL feature. 1. Lock onto a satellite using the procedure for SATELLITE ACQUISITION. 2. Press and hold the 1 button for more than 2.5 seconds. The number “1” will illuminate and the display will show P1. (When button is released, display will go back to elevation.) 3. Repeat for up to 3 more satellites using the 2, 3, and 4 buttons. 4. To RECALLa stored position, press the desired button 1, 2, 3, or 4 for less than 2.5 seconds. The corresponding number of the recalled location will light up while switching, as well as the switching indicator. The antenna will move to the recalled position. Note: It may take a few minutes to download programming from the satellite. If you move the VuQube you will have to re-acquire the satellite. Follow the directions on page 4-5. Note: When recalling a stored position, if you hold the button for more than 2.5 seconds, the current position will be stored rather than a previous position being recalled. Model: VQ1 (Base unit) Operational Description The Main Board contains a microcontroller that interfaces with a radio IC over an SPI bus and a dual motor control IC over digital lines. The radio IC Receives messages from the remote which are read by the microcontroller and acted upon. The actions could include incremental motion of azimuth or elevation motors (jogging) or direct motion to a previously stored position. The main board has power conditioning circuits to draw separate power for the microcontroller and the motor drive from the LNB power source provided by the satellite receiver. The board is always powered as long as the LNB is being powered by the receiver.

Applicable Standards 47 CFR Ch.1 (10-01-09 Edition) FCC Part 15 Radio Frequency Devices Subpart C Intentional Radiators Section 15.231 Periodic Operation in the band 40.66 – 40.70 Mhz, and above 70 Mhz. 2.1 Referenced Standards ANSI C63.4-2003 Methods of Measurement of Radio-Noise Emissions from Low-Voltage Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the Range of 9 Khz to 40 Ghz. 2.2 Equipment Units Tested The equipment tested was a 433 Mhz transmitter that is part of the Electronic Controlled Systems, Inc. Mobile Satellite TV Antenna Model: VQ1. There are two members of this VQ1 family: 1) VQ1000 (with handle) and 2) V10 (with NO handle). The Model: VQ1 contains a wireless device that is operated in the 433 Mhz frequency spectrum. There is no external antenna for the wireless feature of this model. The VQ1 (Base Station) gets its DC power from a HOST device such as a satellite receiver. There is no connection to any public mains circuitry on the device itself. 2.3 Equipment and Cable Configuration See photo of the EUT test configuration setup in Attachment A 2.4 List of Test Equipment Measurement cable losses, and antenna correction factors are included in the data sheets. The Resolution BW was set at 1 Mhz and the Video BW was set at 1 Hz with a Span of 0 Hz to perform the correct average detected measurements over 1000 Mhz. 2.5 Units of Measurement. All measurements were taken in dBuV/m with the antenna located at 3 meters distance from the EUT. This site has been certified to be in spec of the normalized site attenuation per ANSI C63.4- 2003. 2.7 Measurement Procedures The antenna was placed at a distance of 3 meters from the EUT. The EUT was set on an insulating table in the OATS site and rotated through 360 degrees to determine the worst case EUT orientation. The antenna was then positioned vertical and horizontal to determine which antenna polarity orientation was worst case. Then certification data was recorded at all the transmitter frequencies from the fundamental to the 10 th harmonic at an antenna height variation of from 1-4 meters. The worst case orientation was found to be at 270 degrees with the antenna in Vertical Polarity and at a height of 1 meter. 2.8 Reporting Measurement Data See data sheets and plots in Attachment B. 2.9 Radiated Emissions Data The frequency and amplitude of the tuned frequency of the EUT along with the frequencies and amplitudes of the harmonics up to the 10 th harmonic are reported in the data sheets in Attachment B. This information is plotted against the limit of section 15.231 of FCC Part 15 subpart C. Both Horizontal and Vertical antenna polarities as well as antenna heights of 1 to 4 meters were observed but all maximum signal strengths occurred in the Horizontal antenna polarity and at…
