Users Guide Information It is required that Traxxas LLP place the text below in the product user guide along with all other pertinent regulatory information. We are only using the module on our own motherboard, and there is sufficient filtering on the module for the supplied voltage supply. The requirements for FCC Limited Modular Approval were released in March 2009 in the FCC’s Public Notice: FCC Public Notice DA-08-672, Part 15 Unlicensed Modular Transmitter Approvals. Design Criteria for Modular Approval General Conditions: The following conditions must be strictly adhered to for modular approval: 1. No modification to the module including the circuitry is permitted. 2. Design criteria to include antenna, interconnects, and local oscillator. 3. Testing of the final device configuration for Digital Emissions Compliance The Spectrum 2.4Ghz, RX RF Daughter Board Module may not be altered or modified in any manner by the OEM or other entity. Additionally, no component may be added which could change the radio frequency (RF) characteristics. These include, but are not limited to unintentional or spurious emissions, immunity, ESD characteristics, or other items commonly associated with RF devices. This includes all components; passive and active. Additionally, no RF components may be placed between the RF output of the module and the antenna. 3.1 Antenna Regulation The antenna has been selected and specifically tested with the Spectrum 2.4Ghz, RX RF Daughter Board Module, and has been certified through the regulatory agencies in the US and European Union authorized use. Use of any other antenna type used with this unit voids the LMA grant for the said module. 3.2 Emissions Compliance Testing Notwithstanding the Modular Approval for the device with associated antenna, the end product configuration must meet digital emissions compliance and must be tested in accordance with FCC Part 15 requirements confirming radiated emissions are within specified limits. Applicable FCC guidelines:  Part 15 Section 15.109 Sub-paragraph A, Class B Radiated Emission Limits. The results of these emissions tests are not required to be submitted to the FCC or Traxxas, but should be kept on file by the OEM. 3.3 Working with Additional Transmitters The Spectrum 2.4Ghz, RX RF Daughter Board Module should not be operated with any other transmitter in the end product. However, if such an application comes about, further regulatory compliance from the FCC must be obtained. 3.4 Product Labeling Requirements FCC product labeling requirements stipulate an FCC label, including specific text, be placed on the device containing the module. The product label must include the following text and must be affixed to the exterior of the final product. The text should be located beneath the FCC compliance logo. We are only using the module on our own main board, and there is sufficient filtering on the module for the 3.3v supply from the main board. The radio module itself does not have a power supply; the power is supplied by the main CPU board. Functional Description The Spectrum 2.4Ghz, RX RF Daughter Board Module is a complete radio module solution for integration into existing or new 2.4GHz products. The Spectrum 2.4Ghz, RX RF Daughter Board Module is tested for functional operation and is certified: FCC ID: XVE-SA09218. The Spectrum 2.4Ghz, RX RF Daughter Board Module is a small PCB design with 1 10 pin 2mm header, and 1 2 pin 2mm header that is pluggable. 2.1 Operating Frequencies This unit operates only on two channels during transmit: For the Bind Sequence – 2444MHz For the Link sequence – 2435MHz 2.2 Output Power The output power level for this unit is 1.1 x 10 -6 Watts. Functional Overview The Spectrum 2.4Ghz, RX RF Daughter Board Module provides a complete SPI to RF antenna wireless MODEM. The module is designed to implement wireless device links in the 2.4GHz ISM frequency band. It is intended for applications covered by Europe ETSI EN 301 489-1, ETSI EN 301 489-7& ETSI EN 300 328-2, and USA FCC Part 15. The module contains a 2.4GHz GFSK radio transceiver, packet data buffering, packet framer, DSSS baseband controller, Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI), and SPI interface for data transfer and device configuration. The radio supports 98 discrete 1MHz channels (regulations may limit the use of some of these channels in certain jurisdictions). In DSSS modes the baseband performs DSSS spreading/de-spreading, while in GFSK Mode (1 Mb/s – GFSK) the baseband performs Start of Frame (SOF), End of Frame (EOF), detection and CRC16 generation and checking. 4.1 Link Layer Modes The Spectrum 2.4Ghz, RX RF Daughter Board Module supports the following data packet features: SOP – Packets begin with a 2-symbol Start of Packet (SOP) marker. This is required in GFSK and 8DR modes, but is optional in DDR mode and is not supported in SDR mode; if framing is disabled then an SOP event is inferred whenever two successive correlations are detected. The SOP_CODE_ADR code used for the SOP is different from that used for the “body” of the packet and if desired may be different length EOP - There are two options for detecting the end of a packet. If SOP is enabled, then a packet length field may be enabled. GFSK and 8DR must enable the length field. This is the first 8-bits after the SOP symbol, and is transmitted at the payload data length field, plus two bytes for the CRC16 (if enabled). The alternative to using the length field is to infer an EOP condition from a configurable number of successive non- correlations; this option is not available in GFSK mode and is only recommended to enable when using SD…
