Part Number: XXPXXXX Wireless Regulatory Notice for ThinkPad T30 Series This notice is a supplementary document of the “ThinkPad ® T30 Series Service and Troubleshooting Guide.” The ThinkPad T30 Series computer complies with the radio frequency and safety standards of any country or region in which it has been approved for wireless use. You are requested to install and use your ThinkPad computer in strict accordance with the instructions as described hereafter. Getting help and service from IBM”of the ThinkPad T30 Series Service and Troubleshooting Guide, IBM will request you to send your computer with the card(s) to IBM so that IBM will repair it. ii) The FCC RF Safety Requirement The radiated output power of Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card and Bluetooth card are far below the FCC radio frequency exposure limits. Nevertheless, the ThinkPad T30 Series computer shall be used in such a manner that the potential for human contact during normal operation is minimized as follows: Multiple Transmitters model If you find the FCC ID "ANOCORN1TASUHOP"or"ANOCORN1SHR"on the label at the bottom side of your ThinkPad computer, your computer is approved as a Multiple Transmitters device that is permitted to use the integrated Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card and Bluetooth card with two or more wireless option PC Cards in the PC Card slot simultaneously. Please make sure of the following conditions on use of option wireless cards. Use of Wireless options Please make sure of the following when you use a Bluetooth option or wireless option PC Card in your ThinkPad computer. 1.Visit the IBM site atwww.ibm.com/pc/qtechinfo/MIGR-39377.htmland confirm the updated list of RF option devices that have been approved to cooperate with the integrated wireless feature. 2.When you use any other RF option device that is not listed on the IBM site, all other wireless features including the integrated transmitter in your ThinkPad computer are required to be turned off. 3.Users are requested to follow the RF Safety instructions on wireless option devices that are included in the RF option device’s user’s manual. 2 CAUTION: To comply with FCC RF exposure compliance requirements, a separation distance of at least 20 cm (8 inches) must be maintained between the antenna for the integrated Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card built in to the screen section and all persons. The Bluetooth antenna is located in the left edge portion of keyboard. Transmitted energy from the Bluetooth device is very low compared to other RF devices. Therefore a 20 cm separation from the Bluetooth antenna is not required. FCC ID: ANOCORN1TASUHOP 3 FCC ID: ANOCORN1SHR Note:The Thinkpad of FCC ID: ANOCORN1SHR implements transmission diversity function. The function does not emit radio frequencies simultaneously from both antennas. One of the antennas is selected automatically or manually (by users) to have good quality of radiocommunication. iii) Interference Statement An improper installation or unauthorized use may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Also any tampering of the internal antenna will void the FCC certification and your warranty. Refer to the“Appendix D. Notices, Electronic emission notices”of the ThinkPad T30 Series Service and Troubleshooting Guide for more detail. 4 Canada—Industry Canada (IC) Certification number The term“IC”before the equipment certification number only signifies that the Industry Canada technical specifications were met. The certification number“IC: 349E-CORN1BDC”on the label at the bottom of the computer is for the integrated Bluetooth module. The number for the integrated wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card is affixed on the Card installed in the Mini-PCI Card slot, as shown below. Attention:You can install or remove the wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card by yourself. If you install a wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card that is not authorized for the ThinkPad T30 Series computer, the computer does not start, but only displays an error message and emits beeps. Low Power License-Exempt Radiocommunication Devices (RSS-210) Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference, including interference that may cause undesired operation of the device. To prevent radio interference to the licensed service, this device is intended to be operated indoors and away from windows to provide maximum shielding. There is only one transmitter which is driven by identical input parameters concerning these two parameters. Only a different hopping sequence will be used. For this reason the check of these RF parameters in one op-mode is sufficient. 2 Frequency range of a Bluetooth device: Hereby we declare that the maximum frequency of this device is: 2402 – 2480 MHz. This is according the Bluetooth Core Specification V 1.0B (+ critical errata) for devices which will be operated in the USA. This was checked during the Bluetooth Qualification tests (Test Case: TRM/CA/04-E). Other frequency ranges ( e.g. for Spain, France, Japan) which are allowed according the Core Specification are not supported by this device. 3 Co-ordination of the hopping sequence in data mode to avoid simultaneous occupancy by multiple transmitters: Bluetooth units which want to communicate with other units must be organised in a structure called piconet. This piconet consist of max. 8 Bluetooth units. One unit is the master the other seven are the slaves. The master co-ordinates frequency occupation in this piconet for all units. LAP/UAP of the master of the connection 2. Internal master clock The LAP (lower address part) are the 24 LSB’s of the 48 BD_ADDRESS. The BD_ADDRESS is an unambiguous number of every Bluetooth unit. The UAP (upper address part) are the 24 MSB’s of the 48 BD_ADDRESS. The internal clock of a Bluetooth unit is derived from a free running clock which is never adjusted and is never turned off. For synchronisation with other units only offset are used. It has no relation to the time of the day. Its resolution is at least half the RX/TX slot length of 312.5 μs. The clock has a cycle of about one day (23h30). In most case it is implemented as 28 bit counter. For the deriving of the hopping sequence the entire LAP (24 bits), 4 LSB’s (4 bits) (Input 1) and the 27 MSB’s of the clock (Input 2) are used. With this input values different mathematical procedures (permutations, additions, XOR- operations) are performed to generate the sequence. This will be done at the beginning of every new transmission. Regarding short transmissions the Bluetooth system has the following behaviour: The first connection between the two devices is established, a hopping sequence was generated. For transmitting the wanted data the complete hopping sequence was not used. The connection ended. The second connection will be established. A new hopping sequence is generated. Due to the fact that the Bluetooth clock has a different value, because the period between the two transmission is longer (and it cannot be shorter) than the minimum resolution of the clock (312.5 μs). The hopping sequence will always differ from the first one. 6 Receiver input bandwidth and behaviour for repeated single or multiple packets: The input bandwidth of the receiver is 1 MHz. In every connection one Bluetooth device is the master and the other one is the slave. The master determines the hopping sequence (see chapter 5). The slave follows this sequence. Both devices shift between RX and TX time slot according to the clock of the master. Additionally the type of connection (e.g. single or multislot packet) is set up at the beginning of the connection. The master adapts its hopping frequency and its TX/RX timing according to the packet type of the connection. Also the slave of the connection will use these settings. Repeating of a packet has no influence on the hopping sequence. The hopping sequence generated by the master of the connection will be followed in any case. That means, a repeated packet will not be send on the same frequency, it is send on the next frequency of the hopping sequence. Subject 6) We do not understand the statement: "When the antenna separation from a person's body is closer than 2.5 cm, the near field estimation (i.e. the source- based time- averaging) is not proper method for the RF exposure evaluation. So 5 mW should be considered as the criteria of SAR evaluation for the co-location of transmitters." We think you mean "MPE estimation," not near-field. We think you may intend to apply Suppl C Footnote 14. Please clarify and revise RF exposure exhibit accordingly. Note that if Bluetooth and 5.2 GHz LAN antennas are close together, simultaneous SAR evalution could be needed. Answer 6) The “Web guidance” introduced two evaluation routs for the co-location of standalone transmitters. One is “2% of the source- based time-averaged conducted and radiated output power levels of the dominant transmitter” and the other is “5 mW”. The distance between the PC slot and lap is approximately 1.5cm for all applying PC models, so I thought the former method is not applicable due to near-field. Subject 7) Please explain how the system uses a BIOS lock or other method, in order to prevent a user from installing unauthorized transmitter modules. Answer 7) The BIOS lock mechanism was basically developed for the customer installation of a mini-PCI type transmitter. But the transmitter modules (both integrated WLAN and Bluetooth) of this applying equipment(ANOCORN1SHR) are preinstalled by IBM. Also a broken card will be replaced by IBM ourselves. Therefore there is no phase where an unauthorized transmitter module is installed by a customer in this PC model. Please refer the submittal exhibit “RF_Safety_Info.pdf”. We guide the customers as follows. Subject 8) Page 5 of the DSS test report indicates 32 mW(15dBm) and does not agree with page 19 (100 mW). Please correct. Verify output power. Answer 8) This was a careless miss. The correct specification of the applying transmitter is 20dBm, so we would like to submit an additional page for the replacement in the next page since we can’t revise the test report’s date.
