You are requested to install and use your ThinkPad computer in strict accordance with the instructions as described hereafter. Before you use the ThinkPad R32 computer, please read this document. 2 USA — Federal Communications Commission (FCC) This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: 1. This device may not cause harmful interference, and 2. this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. i) Installation of the integrated wireless module The integrated wireless module (Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card) is preinstalled by IBM, and you are not permitted to install nor replace the integrated module by yourself. If your integrated Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card requires replacement via the proper setup shown in “Chapter 3. Getting help and service from IBM” of the ThinkPad R32 Series Service and Troubleshooting Guide, IBM will request you to send your computer with the card to IBM so that IBM will repair it. ii) The FCC RF Safety Requirement The radiated output power of Wireless LAN Mini-PCI cards authorized for use with the computer are far below the FCC radio frequency exposure limits. Nevertheless, the computer shall be used in such a manner that the potential for human contact during normal operation is minimized as follows: Multiple Transmitters model If you find the FCC ID “ANODS1WLIV” or “ANODS1WSHR” on the label at the bottom side of your ThinkPad computer, your computer is approved as a Multiple Transmitters device that is permitted to sue the integrated Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card with two or more wireless option PC Cards in the PC Card slot simultaneously. Please make sure of the following conditions on use of option wireless cards. Use of Wireless options Please make sure of the following when you use a Bluetooth option or wireless option PC Card in your ThinkPad computer. 1. Visit the IBM ® site at www.ibm.com/pc/qtechinfo/MIGR-39377.html and confirm the updated list of RF option devices that have been approved to cooperate with the integrated wireless feature. 2. When you use any other RF option device that is not listed on the IBM site, all other wireless features including the integrated transmitter in your ThinkPad computer are required to be turned off. 3 3. Users are requested to follow the RF Safety instructions on wireless option devices that are included in the RF option device’s user’s manual. CAUTION: To comply with FCC RF exposure compliance requirements, a separation distance of at least 20 cm (8 inches) must be maintained between the main antenna for the integrated Wireless LAN Mini-PCI card built into the screen section and all persons. When the FCC ID of your ThinkPad computer is ANODS1WSHR, the auxiliary antenna built in near the hinge location is also used for RF diversity transmission. The RF transmission power from the antenna conforms to the FCC limit of SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) evaluation, so the separation distance between the auxiliary antenna and persons is not required. Note:The diversity transmission does not function to emit radio frequencies simultaneously from both antennas. One of the antennas is selected automatically or manually (by users) to have good quality of radiocommunication. iii) Interference Statement An improper installation or unauthorized use may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Also, any tampering of the internal antenna will void the FCC certification and your warranty. Refer to “Appendix D. Electronic Emission Notices” of the ThinkPad R32 Series Service and Troubleshooting Guide for more detail. 20cm Main antenna Auxillary antenna 4 Canada — Industry Canada (IC) Certification number There is no certification number of Industry Canada shown on this model. The number for the integrated wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card is stuck on the Card installed in the Mini-PCI Card slot, as shown below. The term "IC" before the equipment certification number only signifies that the Industry Canada technical specifications were met. Attention: You can install or remove the wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card by yourself. If you install a wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card that is not authorized for the computer, the computer does not start, but only displays an error message and emit beeps. Low Power License-Exempt Radiocommunication Devices (RSS-210) Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference, including interference that may cause undesired operation of the device. To prevent radio interference to the licensed service, this device is intended to be operated indoors and away from windows to provide maximum shielding. Equipment (or its transmit antenna) that is installed outdoors is subject to licensing. The test data is similar in the two applications. I was unable to determine the differences in the devices between the two applications. What are the differences and why do the reports seem to be the same? Please explain. Answer 1) There is no difference between FCC ID: ANOU58H004 and FCC ID:ANODS1WSHR However, the grant for the ANOU58H004 is for a limited modular approval while the grant for the DS1WSHR is for a specific host device marketed only with the specific transmitter tested. Please refer the Answer 2) below for the reason why IBM submitted 2 applications. Subject 2) There is no mention in the Grant of a Bios Lock. Does this device have a Bios Lock? If so how is it handled? Answer 2) At the time when IBM asked PCTEST the certification for the application (ANODS1WSHR) on May/24/2002, the BIOS lock was not permitted by the FCC yet. Therefore the BIOS lock condition does not apply in this case. Note1) The BIOS lock is developed for user’s installation of mini-PCI type RF modules. But the transmitter integrated in the application is not user installable module but preinstalled by IBM. Also a broken card will be replaced by IBM ourselves. Please refer the submittal exhibit “RF_Safety_Info.pdf”. IBM guide customers as follows. Note2) The applying PC model was withdrew from the announcement finally, so ANODS1WSHR is not dealt in US market place.
