ThinkPad ® X30Series ServiceandTroubleshootingGuide ThinkPad ® X30Series ServiceandTroubleshootingGuide Note Before using this information and the product it supports, be sure to read the general information under Appendix A, “Important safety instructions” on page 41, Appendix B, “Wireless related information” on page 47, Appendix C, “Warranty information” on page 49, and Appendix D, “Notices” on page 63. DANGER vTo avoid electric shock hazard, connect and disconnect cables appropriately when installing, moving or opening the covers of this product or attached devices. Use the power cord with a properly grounded outlet. vDo not leave the base of your computer in contact with your lap or any part of your body for an extended period when the computer is functioning or when the battery is charging. Your computer dissipates some heat during normal operation. This heat is a function of the level of system activity and battery charge level. Extended contact with your body, even through clothing, could cause discomfort or, eventually, a skin burn. vTo reduce the risk of electric shock, do not use your computer in or near water. vTo avoid electric shock, do not use your computer with the telephone cable connection during an electrical storm. Do not connect the cable to or disconnect it from the telephone outlet on the wall during an electrical storm. vStore packing materials safely out of the reach of children to prevent the risk of suffocation from plastic bags. vThe battery pack contains a small amount of harmful substances. There is danger of an explosion if the battery pack is incorrectly replaced, exposed to fire or water, short-circuited or disassembled. Keep the battery pack away from children and do not put it in trash that is disposed of in landfills. vTo reduce the risk of fire, use only No. 26 AWG or thicker telephone cable. vThe fluorescent lamp in the LCD contains mercury. Do not put it in trash that is disposed of in landfills. Rough handling or dropping the computer can cause the LCD to break and the internal fluid to get into your eyes or on your hands. Immediately wash the affected areas with water. If symptoms persist, seek medical care. vDo not disassemble the optical storage drive unit, as this might result in hazardous radiation exposure. vAvoid direct eye exposure with the laser beam contained in some drives. You are requested to install and use your ThinkPad computer in strict accordance with the instructions as described hereafter. Before you use the ThinkPad R32 computer, please read this document. 2 USA — Federal Communications Commission (FCC) This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: 1. This device may not cause harmful interference, and 2. this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. i) FCC ID of Wireless Modules There is no FCC ID shown on the enclosure of this model. Instead you will find an indicator pointing the location of the FCC ID at the bottom side of your ThinkPad computer as shown below. Note:The applicable cards are FCC ID: ANOU58H004 and ANOM3AWEB56GA. ii) Installation of Wireless LAN Mini-PCI card If no integrated wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card has been preinstalled in your ThinkPad computer, you can install one, provided by IBM as an option. Please plug the option wireless card into the Mini-PCI Card slot located at the bottom of the computer as shown below. TX FCC ID for an installed transmitter card located under this Customer Access Panel 3 Attention for the BIOS Lock Protection If you install an unauthorized wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card that was not approved for use with the computer, the computer does not start, but only displays an error message and emits beeps. iii) The FCC RF Safety Requirement The radiated output power of Wireless LAN Mini-PCI cards authorized for use with the computer are far below the FCC radio frequency exposure limits. Nevertheless, the computer shall be used in such a manner that the potential for human contact during normal operation is minimized as follows: a. Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b (FCC ID: ANOU58H004) CAUTION: To comply with FCC RF exposure compliance requirements, a separation distance of at least 20 cm (8 inches) must be maintained between the main antenna for the integrated Wireless LAN Mini-PCI card built into the screen section and all persons. Also, the auxiliary antenna built in near the hinge location is used for the diversity radio frequency transmission of this wireless card. The RF transmission power from the antenna conforms to the FCC limit of SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) evaluation, so the separation distance between the auxiliary antenna and persons is not required. Note:The diversity transmission does not function to emit radio frequencies simultaneously from both antennas. One of the antennas is selected automatically or manually (by users) to have good quality of radiocommunication. 20cm Main antenna Auxillary antenna 4 b. FCC Test Report FCC ID: ANOM3AWEB56GA Document Number: FCC-19-0190-0 Prepared by T. Murota 1/1 Limited Modular Transmitter Approval Qualification 1. The board has its own shielding cover which shields over the RF circuits as shown in the External or Internal Photographs. 2. The modular transmitter works with its own data buffering and modulation circuits. No input terminal from an external source to control the modulation, RF or data processing is implemented on the board 3. The modular transmitter has its own power supply regulation located on U7 and U15 (Please refer schematics.) 4. The modular transmitter complies with the antenna requirements of Section 15.203 and 204(c) with an unique control logic. Please refer the separated exhibit “Confidential_BIOS.pdf”. Each antenna used with the applying module shall be approved with the module. This application includes three kinds of built_in type antennas used for the IBM laptop computers, ThinkPad R32 Series, ThinkPad T30 Series and ThinkPad X30 Series. There is no plan to support any other host device. 5. The modular transmitter was tested in a stand-alone configuration with each built_in antenna of the above host devices connected to the each proper AC adapter. Then it complied with the AC line conducted requirements found in Section 15.207. 6. The modular transmitter is labeled with its own FCC ID number. Also each host device to work with the applying modular has its own proper FCC ID indication. Please refer the separated exhibits for both applying module and the host devices. 7. The modular transmitter complies with the applied specific rule and operating requirements applicable to the transmitter, and the adequate instructions along with the module to be explained to users are provided with the user’s manual. 8. The modular transmitter complies with the applicable RF exposure requirements. The proper RF exposure evaluations were performed with each host device in line with the FCC Rules in Sections 2.1091, since the antenna separation distance from human’s body is maintained more 20 cm for all the antennas of host devices.
