DANGER vTo avoid electric shock hazard, connect and disconnect cables appropriately when installing, moving or opening the covers of this product or attached devices. Use the power cord with a properly grounded outlet. vDo not leave the base of your computer in contact with your lap or any part of your body for an extended period when the computer is functioning or when the battery is charging. Your computer dissipates some heat during normal operation. This heat is a function of the level of system activity and battery charge level. Extended contact with your body, even through clothing, could cause discomfort or, eventually, a skin burn. vTo reduce the risk of electric shock, do not use your computer in or near water. vTo avoid electric shock, do not use your computer with the telephone cable connection during an electrical storm. Do not connect the cable to or disconnect it from the telephone outlet on the wall during an electrical storm. vStore packing materials safely out of the reach of children to prevent the risk of suffocation from plastic bags. vThe battery pack contains a small amount of harmful substances. There is danger of an explosion if the battery pack is incorrectly replaced, exposed to fire or water, short-circuited or disassembled. Keep the battery pack away from children and do not put it in trash that is disposed of in landfills. vTo reduce the risk of fire, use only No. 26 AWG or thicker telephone cable. vThe fluorescent lamp in the LCD contains mercury. Do not put it in trash that is disposed of in landfills. Rough handling or dropping the computer can cause the LCD to break and the internal fluid to get into your eyes or on your hands. Immediately wash the affected areas with water. If symptoms persist, seek medical care. vDo not disassemble the optical storage drive unit, as this might result in hazardous radiation exposure. vAvoid direct eye exposure with the laser beam contained in some drives. ET Docket No. 96-8, RM-8435, RM-8608, RM-8609. 3. ìISL3874 Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Baseband Processor 4. ì M-ary Orthogonal Keying BER Curveî, Test Background and Procedure. According to FCC regulations [1], a direct sequence spread spectrum system must have a processing gain, G p of at least 10 dB. Compliance to this requirement can be shown by demonstrating a relative bit-error-ratio (BER) performance improvement (and corresponding signal to noise ratio per symbol improvement of at least 10 dB) between the case where spread spectrum processes (coding, modulation) are engaged relative to the processes being bypassed. In some practical systems, the spread spectrum processing cannot simply be bypassed. In these cases, the processing gain can be indirectly measured by a jamming margin test [2]. The chip rate is always 11 MCps, so the ratio of chip rate to symbol rate is 11:1 for the 1 and 2 Mbps rates and 8:1 for the 5.5 and 11 Mbps rates. Answer 1) We decided to withdraw the co-location of the 5.2GHz PCMCIA option card with the applying LMA transmitter due to the insufficient RF exposure evaluation. Subject 4) Time-averaging provisions of 1.1310 may not be used in determining typical exposure levels for devices intended for use by consumers in general population/uncontrolled environments. Subject 6) We do not understand the statement: "When the antenna separation from a person's body is closer than 2.5 cm, the near field estimation (i.e. the source- based time- averaging) is not proper method for the RF exposure evaluation. So 5 mW should be considered as the criteria of SAR evaluation for the co-location of transmitters." We think you mean "MPE estimation," not near-field. We think you may intend to apply Suppl C Footnote 14. Please clarify and revise RF exposure exhibit accordingly. Note that if Bluetooth and 5.2 GHz LAN antennas are close together, simultaneous SAR evalution could be needed. Answer 6) The “Web guidance” introduced two evaluation routs for the co-location of standalone transmitters. One is “2% of the source- based time-averaged conducted and radiated output power levels of the dominant transmitter” and the other is “5 mW”. But I understood the “Web guidance” is not effective yet, therefore I revised the RF Exposure exhibit. Please see the new updated one. Answer 7) The BIOS lock mechanism was basically developed for the customer installation of a mini-PCI type transmitter. But the transmitter modules (both integrated WLAN and Bluetooth) of this applying equipment are preinstalled by IBM. Also a broken card will be replaced by IBM ourselves. Therefore there is no phase where an unauthorized transmitter module is installed by a customer in this PC model. Please refer the submittal exhibit “RF_Safety_Info.pdf”. Please make sure of the following conditions on use of option wireless cards. Use of Wireless options Please make sure of the following when you use a Bluetooth option or wireless option PC Card in your ThinkPad computer. 1.Visit the IBM ® site atwww.ibm.com/pc/qtechinfo/MIGR-39377.htmland confirm the updated list of RF option devices that have been approved to cooperate with the integrated wireless feature. 2.When you use any other RF option device that is not listed on the IBM site, all other wireless features including the integrated transmitter in your ThinkPad computer are required to be turned off. 3.Users are requested to follow the RF Safety instructions on wireless option devices that are included in the RF option device’s user’s manual. The Bluetooth antenna is located in the left hinge portion of keyboard. Transmitted energy from the Bluetooth device is very low compared to other RF devices.
