Operational Description

Andrew Corporation Model: MR853D Power Back-Off Description After the final amplifiers, in both the uplink and downlink paths, a power detection circuit measures the output power and produces an analog voltage representative of the output power. The power detect voltage is compared to reference voltage through a comparator circuit to adjust the gain of the device. When the measured voltage reaches the maximum limit, the gain of the device is reduced to limit the output power. This feature is the automatic level control (ALC) and keeps intermodulation and spurious emissions below the limits of –13 dBm.

Parts List/Tune Up Info

Tune-Up Procedure The first step in setting up the MR853D is to set the frequency of the single stage SAW filter. Two rotary switches are used to set the start frequency of the SAW filter and the step size of the frequency adjustment is 200 kHz. The next step is to set the appropriate attenuation of the MR853D to provide the desired output power. There are two methods of setting the attenuation: manually or automatically. In manual mode, the user would measure the input signals and set the attenuation of the MR853D to provide the desired output power. ALC is always functioning and the maximum output power of the MR853D will never be exceeded. In automatic mode, the MR853D will adjust gain in the downlink path to maximize output power, but no exceed the maximum ALC limit. The uplink gain will be set to the downlink gain.

Power listed is conducted and is the composite for multi-channel operation. The antenna used for this transmitter is to be fixed-mounted on indoor or outdoor permanent structures providing a separation distance of at least 20 cm from all persons during normal operation. The maximum radiated output power must satisfy the MPE Categorical Exclusion Requirements of 2.1091. RF exposure compliance may need to be addressed at the time of licensing, as required by the responsible FCC Bureau(s), including antenna co-location requirements of 1.1307(b)(3).
