A USER’S GUIDE 1 of 9 AMB-4020 Hand-Held Scanner/Deactivator User’s Guide Product Overview The AMB-4020 hand-held scanner/deactivator is a multi-purpose device used for scanning barcodes, detecting and deactivating EAS labels, alarm logging, and source tagging compliance checking. It includes the following features: © 2004 Sensormatic Electronics Corp. Feature Function Base Charging Station with security lock Secures the hand-held unit when not in use. Keeps unit batteries optimally charged. Liquid Crystal Display Displays prompts and messages relating to the task at hand. Keypad Used for entering information. See the Keypad Overview for details. LED indicators Red and green lights indicate proper unit function. Integrated Barcode Scanner Used to scan barcodes on receipts, merchandise, packages and badges. Ergonomic Grip Provides comfortable use for a variety of users. Feature Function Integrated EAS Detector / Deactivator Assists in identifying merchandise that has not been properly deactivated at the point-of-sale. Also allows these items to be deactivated with proof of purchase. Scanner Trigger Activates the scanner when needed. Alternate Scan Barcode button Activates the barcode scanner when the unit is stored in its base. WARNING: Before using this device, read this manual carefully! Depending upon the software configuration, some keypad features may not be available. Button Function Power Switches the scanner/deactivator to standby mode to conserve power. Cursor Moves the cursor around the LCD. Press an arrow corresponding to the direction that you want to move the cursor. Enter Makes selections appearing on the LCD. Alternate Scan Barcode Activates the barcode scanner when the unit is stored in the base. Button Function Backlighting Turns on LCD backlighting if the display appears dark. Alpha Shift Key Toggles between entering numbers and alphabetic characters using the numeric keypad. Safe Operation IMPORTANT! This device may be used to locate and deactivate Ultra•Max ® labels on merchandise to help speed up the checkout process in busy retail environments. Like many similar devices, the AMB- 4020 scanner/deactivator emits electromagnetic fields that may affect certain implanted medical devices. Since it is impossible to tell which customers may have an implanted medical device, it should not be used within 30cm (12in) of a customer’s head and torso. Some employees with implanted medical devices may notice interactions while operating this equipment. These interactions are ordinarily transitory and should not be harmful. However, if the employee feels uncomfortable, a change in assigned duties should be considered. Laser Device Warnings WARNING: Do not stare (look) in the beam of the laser: It is a Laser Class 2 and it may produce eye damages. WARNING: Do not test the device with the aperture directed to your eyes. WARNING: It is very important to be aware that the duration of the laser radiation emission is longer than the audible beep that results when the push- button (trigger) is activated: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TURN THE APERTURE TOWARDS YOUR EYES DURING THE RADIATION EMISSION. The red beam is an optical indicator that the radiation is present and, as long as it is visible, the scanner shall not be directed towards the operator or towards any other person’s eyes. The Sensormatic® AMB-4020 Hand-Held Scanner/Deactivator is capable of driving an antenna to generate a magnetic field to excite tags, receive the signal and deactivate the tag when an acceptable tag signal is detected and verified. The tag detection transmitter operates at 58 kHz. The Sensormatic® AMB-4020 Hand-Held Scanner/Deactivator also contains a deactivator operating at 1300 Hz, a laser bar code scanner for reading bar codes, a 900 MHz frequency hopping system synchronization receiver, and an OEM PDA integrated in the unit for user controls. The 900 MHz receiver was verified on the OATS listed under FCC Registration Number 90925 and complies with the applicable regulations. The Sensormatic® AMB-4020 Hand-Held Scanner/Deactivator integrates the Symbol Technologies, Inc LA-4137 Compact Flash Wireless LAN Adapter that was originally approved under FCC ID: H9PLA4137P. Symbol Technologies has performed a Class I permissive change to approve the device under the FCC ID: H9PLA4137 identifier, but no changes were made to the device [still uses same integral antenna / etc.]. A copy of the letter from Symbol Technologies explaining this is appended. General Information 1.1. Test Methodology Both conducted and radiated emissions testing were performed according to the procedures in ANSI C63.4-1992, and the requirements of 15.31, 15.33, 15.35, 15.207, and 15.209. Radiated emissions measurements below 30MHz were performed at a 3 meter distance and the results were extrapolated to the distance specified per 15.31 and 15.209 invoking the 2-point extrapolation method. The device is manufactured with an integral antenna. To accommodate the conducted RF measurements, a unit was modified to replace the antenna with an external SMA connector. Another unmodified unit was used for radiated spurious emissions. 1.2. Test Facility Measurements per 15.207 and 15.209 were performed at Sensormatic Electronics Corporation. The shielded room conducted emissions measurement facility and the radiated emissions Open Area Test Site are located at Sensormatic Electronics Corporation Headquarters at 6600 Congress Avenue, Boca Raton, Florida 33487. These sites have been found acceptable by and are on file with the FCC per FCC Registration Number 90925, and Industry Canada per file number IC 3506. The Sensormatic® AMB-4020 Hand-Held Scanner/Deactivator is a handheld device that can detect & deactivate ULTRAMAX EAS labels, and can scan and read barcode data. It is marketed with a base charging/locking station that is typically mounted to a fixed location. Normal retail environment applications include detecting and deactivating EAS labels as well as scanning product barcodes. This unit consists of power regulation circuitry that uses the battery voltage to generate 1.25, 3.3, 5.0, 19 & 21 VDC. These voltages are used by the different components of the unit. The product tested was a pre-production unit built to production drawings. To detect EAS labels, the handheld drives a coil antenna at 58 kHz. This generates a magnetic field that excites a label when in range. The handheld can then detect the presence of the label. The handheld is powered from a rechargeable 2 series cell Li-ion battery pack. 15.203. . The antenna is an internal loop antenna and not accessible to the user. Therefore the device complies with the provisions of this clause. III. Conducted Emissions 15.207. Conducted emissions data are presented in Section VIII “Data”, Part A, “Conducted Emissions”. The handheld is powered from a rechargeable 2 series cell Li-ion battery pack. However, the device is marketed with a base charging station that plugs into the AC mains. Therefore, conducted emissions testing was done with the handheld in the base. The operational mode of the handheld is limited while in the base charging station and the normal operating mode was exercised. The product demonstrated compliance with the requirements of 15.207. Radiated emissions data for this product are presented in Section VIII “Data”, Part B, Radiated Emissions. The product demonstrated compliance with the requirements. Radiated emissions measurements were performed at 3 meters. An inverse-linear distance extrapolation factor of 20 dB/decade was used . The results were compared to the limits by extrapolating the results to 300 meters as per 15.31(f)(2), . Maximum radiation was determined by first assessing symmetry. The product exhibited semi-circular symmetry. Measurements were taken at radials of 22.5° throughout two quadrants; the measurement antenna was rotated for maximum pickup about the vertical axis of the measurement antenna at each radial. The maximum emission was determined to be with the measurement loop antenna in the vertical polarization, parallel to the radiating loop of the antenna structure. See Section VIII, Part B for results. V. Occupied Bandwidth RSS 210:5.9.1. The 20 dB bandwidth measurements for this product are presented in Section VII “Data”, Part C, Occupied Bandwidth.
