A ADEMCO 5817CB WIRELESS COMMERCIAL / HOUSEHOLD TRANSMITTER INSTALLATION AND SETUP GUIDE GENERAL INFORMATION The 5817CB is a universal contact-monitoring transmitter that can be used with household and commercial fire and burglary-initiating devices such as door/window contacts, motion and glassbreak detectors, sprinkler water flow switches, tamper switches, post indicator valves, manual pull stations, and remote duct detectors. Upon activation, it emits an RF signal to a control panel that sends a burglary or fire alarm to a central station. The 5817CB has three unique input loops (zones). The first loop (primary loop) is supervised and typically used for high-priority alarm reporting such as commercial fire or burglary. It requires a 470K ohm end-of-line resistor to be placed across the sensor. The second loop is the built-in, normally closed reed switch (used in conjunction with a magnet, as described below). The third loop is another normally closed household burglary loop. All three loops may be used. A fourth (automatically enrolled) loop contains two tamper switches to protect the 5817CB transmitter. A built-in cover tamper switch is activated when the cover is removed. A unit tamper switch is activated if the unit is separated from its mounting plate. PROGRAMMING The 5817CB has its own unique serial number permanently assigned during manufacture. You must "enroll" this transmitter serial number in the control panel at some point prior to its usage in the alarm system. Refer to the control panel's installation instructions for specific programming procedure. Note: During programming of the control panel, program the 5817CB transmitter as Input Type "RF" (i.e., supervised RF) ( mandatory for UL installations ). MOUNTING For proper orientation of the unit in relation to its wall mounting plate and the loop wiring, read all of this section before installing the unit. EXHIBIT 1 CFS8DL5817CB-2 / 573F-5817CB2 Functional Description. The 5817CB-2 is a battery powered portable transmitter and is part of a wireless alarm system. It is used in conjunction with a receiver (5881) to indicate an open door or window to the alarm system. It is functionaly identical to the 5817CB. The messages are transmitted at 345Mhz +/-82Khz using on-off keyed AM modulation. The 5817CB-1 sends a regular supervision or check-in message, no more often than once per hour. It also sends messages initiated by the condition of the loop (open or closed).
EXHIBIT 2-2 CFS8DL5817CB-2 / 573F-5817CB2 The 5817CB-2 remote zone transmitter consists of a message encoding chip (U1) , a SAW - stabilized Colpits oscillator (Q2) , and PA stage (Q3). The message encoding chip is responsible for: 1. generating the zone alarm message 2. generating the tamper and supervision messages. 3. performing all watchdog functions. When sending a message, the message encoder chip turns on the SAW oscillator (Q2) using Q1 to apply VCC , R7 and R8 bias Q2 on, SAW device Y1 sets the frequency, capacitors C10 and C11 set the feedback , R9 sets the current through the oscillator, and C13 couples the RF into the PA. The encoder chip then uses transistors Q4 - 5 to key the PA (Q3). This is on / off AM modulation (FCC Type 100KK1 modulation )C19 and L1 tune the PA, C15, RL27, suppress harmonics, and C17 / C18 tune the antenna to resonance.

The data output is phase-encoded Manchester that has inherent 50% duty cycle and consists of 64 bits per word A supervision transmission is six identical words separated by (start to start) by nominal 125mSec (100 mSec min, 150 mSec max). Each message has a nominal data rate of 3.7 kb/s (3.2kb/s min to 4.2kb/s max). Therefore the duty cycle is calculation is as follows: The word format consists of 64 bits, The duration of each bit is 312.5 uSec max. The duty cycle over a 100 mSec measuring period is calculated as follows: Duty cycle = Actual RF transmission ON time / 100 mSec Actual transmission ON time = 64 bits X 50% X 312.5 uSec = 10 mSec Therefore duty cycle = 10 / 100 mSec = .10 = 10%, and peak to average field strength is 20 db. Total on-air time for a supervision transmission is: 64 X 312.5 uSec + (5 X 150 mSec) = 0.77 seconds In the case of an alarm transmission, the group of six transmissions is repeated twice, with the second group delayed from the first by a max time of 2 seconds. The worst case on-air time is 2 X (supervision time) + 2 = 3.54 seconds Summary: - Duty cycle = 10% On airtime = 3.54 seconds
