K9485 02/04 Rev A ADEMCO 5818MN Recessed Door Transmitter INSTALLATION AND SETUP GUIDE EXTERNAL PHYSICAL BARRIER (e.g. MOLDING) 1/2" MAXIMUM MAGNET "IN" SIDE OF DOOR 5818MN TRANSMITTER 5818MN-002-V1 FRAME OF DOOR Figure 1: Door Installation GENERAL INFORMATION The ADEMCO 5818MN Recessed Door Transmitter is a reed switch, magnetic contact sensor that provides concealed protection for a door. It is intended for use only with alarm systems that support 5800 series devices. The transmitter is powered by an AAA Alkaline battery that is easily replaced when a low battery condition is indicated by the control panel. PROGRAMMING THE ID NUMBER Each 5818MN has its own unique identification code (serial number) permanently assigned during manufacture. The control panel is required to β€œenroll” the transmitter’s ID during installation of the alarm system. Note: During programming of the control panel, 5818MN transmitters must be enrolled as an "RF" (i.e., supervised RF) Type 3, Loop 1 ( mandatory for UL installations ). The 5818MN is a single zone transmitter. PRELIMINARY Read all of this and the next section before installing the unit. 1. Select a location for the transmitter on the frame of the door (never on the hinged edge) to be protected. xDo not use on metal frame doors. TRANSMITTER CASE ANTENNA END CAP REED SWITCH PC BOARD 5818MN-001-V0 Figure 2: Battery/Transmitter Assembly xThe transmitter will require a 3/4β€œ diameter hole in the edge of the frame, at least 3” deep. Its magnet will need a 3/8” diameter hole in the edge of the door at least 1/2” deep. BEFORE DRILLING ANY HOLES, SEE STEP 2 BELOW AND MOUNTING ON THE NEXT PAGE. xThe preferred direction of mounting is vertical, although the 5818MN may be mounted in any direction if satisfactory reception of its transmissions is obtained. x A physical barrier (e.g., a molding strip on the door frame) should be present to protect against defeat of the contact from outside the premises. 2. Before drilling any holes, tape the transmitter and magnet in their approximate locations (with battery installed and unit together as described under BATTERYINSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT (below) and conduct Go/No Go tests (refer to control panel’s instructions) to verify adequate signal strength. Reorient or relocate transmitter if necessary. xMake sure that no more than 1/2” gap exists between the faces of the transmitter and magnet cases when they are installed and set. xWhen installed, an alarm signal must be obtained before a separation of 2” is reached as the door is opened. PRELIMINARY 6/26/03..tp updated 2/05/04 MOUNTING 1. Mark the selected location for the transmitter on the frame of the door. 2. Mark the location for the magnet on the door, directly opposite the transmitter location. Caution : Before drilling any holes, make sure that successful Go/No Go transmission/reception tests have been conducted as called for in step 2 of the PRELIMINARY section on the first page. 3. Drill holes at the locations marked, for the transmitter (3/4” diameter, at least 3” deep) and magnet 3/8” diameter, at least 1/2” deep). 4. Insert the transmitter and magnet cases into their respective holes, so that their ends are flush with the surface. xDO NOT hammer in place with hard blows. If necessary, tap gently with a rubber mallet or wood block. xThe transmitter case may be secured by two #4 flat head, self-tapping screws via the holes in its mounting flanges, or the flanges can be snapped off by scoring around them first with a sharp knife. xIf necessary, either case may be secured with a suitable adhesive. NOTE: A closure plug is supplied to cover an empty transmitter hole if it becomes necessary to relocate the transmitter. BATTERY INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT 1. Remove the transmitter’s end cap by inserting the flat blade of a screwdriver in the cap’s slot and turning slightly counterclockwise. 2. Slide the transmitter PCB assembly out of its case, taking care not to bend the antenna during this step or later. 3. Remove the old battery, if replacing it. 4. Observe correct polarity and insert the fresh battery into the battery holder (position the battery as shown in Figure 2). 5. Slide the PCB assembly back into its case, battery end first ( the reed switch end must be close to the end cap ). 6. Replace the end cap. Line up the projections on the cap with the openings at the edge of the case. Press the cap gently against the PCB and turn the cap (via its slot) slightly clockwise, thereby locking it in place. Operational Description

EXHIBIT 1-1 CFS8DL5818MN Functional Description. The 5818MN is a battery powered portable transmitter and is part of a wireless alarm system. It is used in conjunction with a receiver (5881) as a sensor to indicate a window or door opening event to the alarm system. These messages are transmitted at 345Mhz +/-82Khz using on-off keyed AM modulation. The 58 18MN sends a regular su pervision or ch eck-in message, no more often Than once per hour. It also sends messages initiated by the condition of the loop (open or closed).

Operational Description

EXHIBIT 2-1 CFS8DL5818MN CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION The 5818MN is operated from a single 1.5 V AAA Battery. A Dc to DC Converter (U1) produces 3.0V DC for the rest of the circuit. Messages are encoded by our standard ADEMCO Message ASIC (U2) The Message t iming and Duty Cycle will be shown in EXHIBITS; 3-1&-2. The transmitter section of the 5818MN consists of a single chip (U3) which contains a PLL, buffer, and PA. The Frequency Determining Element is a 10.78125 Mhz. Crystal (YL1). PA output matching and antenna coupling is done by: L1, C22, L2, C21, and C13.

Operational Description

EXHIBIT 3-1 CFSDL5818MN 5818MN Duty Cycle Calculation Message protocol, timing and duty cycle calculation. The data output is phase encoded Manchester that has inherent 50% duty cycle and consists of 64 bits per word. A supervision transmission is six identical words separated by (start to start) by nominal 125mS (100mS min. to 150mS max). Each message has a nominal data rate of 3.7 kb/s (3.2 kb/s min. to 4.2kb/s max). Therefore the duty cycle is calculated as follows: The word format consists of 64 bits, The duration of each bit is 312.5 uSec max. The duty cycle over a 100 mSec measuring period is calculated as follows: Duty cycle = Actual RF transmission ON time / 100 mSec Actual transmission ON time = 64 bits X 50% X 312.5 uSec = 10 mSec Therefore duty cycle = 10 / 100 mSec = 0.10 = 10%, peak to average field strength is 20 dB. Total on-air time for a supervision transmission is: 64 X 312.5 uSec + (5 X 150 mSec) = 0.77 seconds. In the case of an alarm transmission, the group of six transmissions is repeated twice, with the second group delayed from the first by a max. time of 2 seconds. The worst case on-air time is 2 X (supervision time) + 2 = 3.54 seconds. Summary:- Duty cycle = 10% On-air time = 3.54 seconds.

EXHIBIT 5-1 CFS8DL5818MN Report of Measurements. Measurements were made at Ademco 's Measurement Facility at 160 Eileen Way , Syosset , NY 11791 , FCC Registration number : 90421. Measurements were made in accordance with the procedures and reporting requirements of ANSI C63.4-1992. The Test Set-Up (C63.4 section 10.1.3) is shown in the attached drawing The sequence of testing (C63.4 section 10.1.7) for radiated emissions is as follows: A preliminary scan was conducted with the receiver antenna close to the EUT in order to identify the emission characteristics of the EUT (C63.4 section 8.3.1.1). The antenna and EUT were then placed at the proper separation with the EUT positioned on a non-conducting turntable. The EUT was rotated on the turntable to maximize the received signal strength, then the receiver antenna height was varied to further maximize the received reading. Thereafter, the device was again rotated to a peak output position and the antenna height was re-adjusted for maximum received signal. This procedure was re-iterated until there was no further increase in signal level. This procedure was performed with the EUT rotating in three orthogonal planes (C63.4 section 13.1.4.1) to generate a final maximum reading which is recorded on the radiated emissions result sheet. Similar measurements were made on the receiver to ensure compliance as an unintentional radiator. See Exhibit 6 for list of test equipment (C63.4 section 10.1.4). Note, Spectrum Analyzer resolution bandwidths set as follows; (Video Bandwidth set greater than RBW) - For occupied bandwidth measurements, RBW = 100kHz, (This is in accordance with the minimum RBW allowed by C63.4, which requires RBW greater than 5% of the FCC required occupied bandwidth spec of 0.25% of center frequency). - For radiated emissions below 1 GHz, the RBW = 100kHz. Detector function set to peak. - For radiated emissions above 1 GHz, the RBW = 1MHz. Detector function set to peak. OCCUPIED BANDWIDTH is shown on attached plot. RADIATED EMISSIONS are recorded on attached sheet.
