A –2– RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PROPER PROTECTION The Following Recommendations for the Location of Fire and Burglary Detection Devices Help Provide Proper Coverage for the Protected Premises. Recommendations for Smoke and Heat Detectors With regard to the number and placement of smoke/heat detectors, we subscribe to the recommendations contained in the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) Standard #72 noted below. • Early warning fire detection is best achieved by the installation of fire detection equipment in all rooms and areas of the household as follows: For minimum protection a smoke detector should be installed outside of each separate sleeping area, and on each additional floor of a multi-floor family living unit, including basements. The installation of smoke detectors in kitchens, attics (finished or unfinished), or in garages is not normally recommended. • For additional protection the NFPA recommends that you install heat or smoke detectors in the living room, dining room, bedroom(s), kitchen, hallway(s), attic, furnace room, utility and storage rooms, basements and attached garages. In addition, we recommend the following: • Install a smoke detector inside every bedroom where a smoker sleeps. • Install a smoke detector inside every bedroom where someone sleeps with the door partly or completely closed. Smoke could be blocked by the closed door. Also, an alarm in the hallway outside may not wake up the sleeper if the door is closed. • Install a smoke detector inside bedrooms where electrical appliances (such as portable heaters, air conditioners or humidifiers) are used. • Install a smoke detector at both ends of a hallway if the hallway is more than 40 feet (12 meters) long. • Install smoke detectors in any room where an alarm control is located, or in any room where alarm control connections to an AC source or phone lines are made. Operational Description

EXHIBIT 1-1 FCC I.D.: CFS8DLLYNXREN-2 Functional Description. The LYNX fixed transceiver is part of Ademco’s wireless 5800 alarm system. It is used in conjunction with portable transmitters (e.g. 5804) or portable transceivers (e.g. 5804BD). This allows remote control of the alarm system and provides remote indication that a control instruction has been enacted. In addition control events and alarm events initiated at the Lynx keypad are also transmitted to wireless relay and wireless siren type devices. These messages are transmitted at 345Mhz +/-82kHz using on-off keyed AM modulation. The LYNX does not send a regular supervision or check-in message, it sends no other messages except alarm messages, control messages initiated at the Lynx keypad, and messages which are a confirmation of reception of manually initiated control messages which have been received from portable remote control transmitters.

Operational Description

EXHIBIT 2-1 FCC ID: CFS8DLLYNXREN-2 Circuit Description. The LYNXREN-2 is a TM3 data version of the LYNXREN. Like the CFS8DLLYNXREN-1, The LYNXREN-2 is constructed on a pair of PCBs interconnected via a ribbon cable. Everything else is identical. The main PCB contains the RF transmitter and receiver circuitry as well as all control, display, keypad and annunciation circuitry. The transmitter is a SAW resonator Colpitts oscillator, Q26, YL5, etc. The transmitter is on-off keyed (AM) modulated by a control signal from the micro controller U18 which turns PA Q30 on or off via Q28/Q29, thus modulating the output signal. The RF output signal is connected to two PCB mounted antennas via FL1 & diodes CR32/CR33. The receiver is a ‘superhet’ with a single intermediate frequency at 10.7MHz. Q31 etc. is the low noise amplifier which is connected to the PCB mounted antennas. Diodes CR32/CR33 under the control of a micro controller are periodically switched to provide system antenna diversity. The IC U22 includes a balanced mixer, & phase locked L.O. (YL1 @ 10.446875 Mhz X 34 = 355.7 Mhz) which converts the incoming signal down from 345MHz to 10.7MHz. This IC also includes the required IF gain and detected output. FL3 is a ceramic IF filter. IC U19 performs baseband filtering and processing and provides a data signal.

Operational Description

EXHIBIT 3-1 LYNXREN-2 - Duty Cycle Calculation FCC ID: CFS8DLLYNXREN-2 Message protocol, timing and duty cycle calculation. The CFS8DLLYNXREN-2 uses the new TM3 message protocol. The TM3 protocol has two (2) unique modes: Master-Slave mode, and Enhanced Message mode. MASTER-SLAVE Mode: Only terminal type units such as the LYNXREN-2 transmit in the Master-Slave mode. The purpose of the Master-Slave mode is to cause remote receivers to ‘wake up’. This is done by transmitting the following Manchester Phase Encoded message: ----------------------------- SEE EXHIBIT 3-2 (PICTURE OF BIT STREAM) -------------------------------------- This message is 8.8 mSec. long and it is transmitted once every 21 Seconds (on alternating antenna). Since the data is phase encoded Manchester, the actual TX ON time is 4.4 mSec. Therefore; 4.4 mSec. X 2.857 times per Minute X 60 Minutes per Hour = 754.3 mSec. per Hour. Total TX ON Time. This is within the FCC Requirement that such Transmissions not exceed 2 Seconds per Hour as per Part 15.231 sect a. paragraph 3 ENHANCED MESSAGE MODE: The Enhanced Message Mode control messages may also contain data, as per Part 15.231 The new TM3 message is phase-encoded Manchester that has inherent 50% duty cycle and consists of 120 bits per word ----------------------------- SEE EXHIBIT 3-3 (PICTURE OF BIT STREAM) -------------------------------------- A supervision transmission is five identical words separated by (start to start) by nominal 125mSec (100 mSec min, 150 mSec max). Each message has a nominal data rate of 4.0 kb/s (no range, it is crystal controlled). Therefore the duty cycle is calculation is as follows: The word format consists of 120 bits, The duration of each bit is 250.0 uSec max. The duty cycle over a 100 mSec(worst case) measuring period is calculated as follows: Duty cycle = Actual RF transmission ON time / 100 mSec Actual transmission ON time = 120 bits X 50% X 250.0 uSec = 15 mSec Therefore duty cycle = 15 / 100 mSec = .15 = 15%, and peak to average field strength is 20 db. Total on-air time for a supervision transmission is: (120 X 250.0 uSec) X 5 + (4 X 100 mSec) = 0.550 seconds In the case of an alarm transmission, the group of five transmissions is repeated twice, with the second group delayed from the first by a max time of 1 seconds. The worst case on-air time is 2 X (supervision time) + 1 = 2.10 seconds The worst case Duty cycle is : 15%

Operational Description

Wake up Transmission Format Serialized data is Manchester Phase Encoded as shown below. Bit stream is sent out on a most significant bit first fashion. Message redundancy and RF Spatial diversity are implemented by transmitting 2 identical messages while alternating antennae (1 messages transmitted on each antenna).This transmission is repeated every 21Sec Unless an alarm condition has happened Note: Sync has highest priority all other message follow after a Sync. Sync is not exclusive to a 21 sec time interval. Minimum sync time is 18sec max time is 63sec if using a 32768 crystal at 25 ppm Message Sync Format - This shall consist of a total of 6 bytes transmitted twice: Output Base band - This shall be Phase Encoded (Manchester) . 40 bits + 6 bytes sent at 10K bits / sec. (.8 mS. / byte) = 8.8mS. / Message Full power level. 1 1 1 0 1 0 1 0 0 1 1 0 0 0 1 Bit Cell Interval = 100 usec (10Khz) 8.8 msec approx. 21sec +/- 2ms. EXHIBIT 5-1 CFS8DLLYNXREN-2 Report of Measurements. Measurements were made at Ademco 's Measurement Facility at 160 Eileen Way , Syosset , NY 11791 , FCC Registration number : 90421. Measurements were made in accordance with the procedures and reporting requirements of ANSI C63.4-1992. The Test Set-Up (C63.4 section 10.1.3) is shown in the attached drawing. The sequence of testing (C63.4 section 10.1.7) for radiated emissions is as follows: A preliminary scan was conducted with the receiver antenna close to the EUT in order to identify the emission characteristics of the EUT (C63.4 section 8.3.1.1). The antenna and EUT were then placed at the proper separation with the EUT positioned on a non-conducting turntable. The EUT was rotated on the turntable to maximize the received signal strength, then the receiver antenna height was varied to further maximize the received reading. Thereafter, the device was again rotated to a peak output position and the antenna height was re-adjusted for maximum received signal. This procedure was re-iterated until there was no further increase in signal level. This procedure was performed with the EUT rotating in three orthogonal planes (C63.4 section 13.1.4.1) to generate a final maximum reading which is recorded on the radiated emissions result sheet. Similar measurements were made on the receiver to ensure compliance as an unintentional radiator. See Exhibit 6 for list of test equipment (C63.4 section 10.1.4). Note, Spectrum Analyzer resolution bandwidths set as follows; (Video Bandwidth set greater than RBW) - For occupied bandwidth measurements, RBW = 100kHz, (This is in accordance with the minimum RBW allowed by C63.4, which requires RBW greater than 5% of the FCC required occupied bandwidth spec of 0.25% of center frequency). - For radiated emissions below 1 GHz, the RBW = 100kHz. Detector function set to peak. - For radiated emissions above 1 GHz, the RBW = 1MHz. Detector function set to peak. OCCUPIED BANDWIDTH is shown on attached plot. RADIATED EMISSIONS are recorded on attached sheet.
