These reference designs support all IEEE 802.11a data rates (6 to 54 Mbps) and 802.11b data rates (1 to 11 Mbps). In the Atheros Turbo ModeTM, they support data rates up to 108 Mbps. The Atheros Client Utility (ACU) is a user-mode utility designed to display information and statistics pertaining to a selected Atheros NIC, as well as to allow users to edit and add configuration profiles. Station Configuration Configure the Atheros AR5001X Mini PCI Wireless Network Adapter through the Atheros Client Utility. The wireless network adapter (also called wireless card) works in either access point mode (infrastructure mode - leverages an AP) or ad hoc mode (a group of stations participating in the WLAN). To switch to another configuration profile, click on the profile name in the Select Profile list, then click the Apply button. l To add a configuration profile l To edit a configuration profile l Access Point (infrastructure) mode profile configuration l Ad Hoc mode profile configuration Add or Edit a Configuration Profile 1. Applicant : Toshiba Corporation FCC ID: CJ6UPA3233WL TCB Assessment no:AN02T2391 ( DTS ) and AN02T2392 ( UNII) Question #1: MB22 is a 802.11 a/b transmitter module which is seeking full module approval. On Nov. 05, 2002, you provide the module installation procedures in two typical notebook computer. I attached this installation procedures for your quick reference. Per 15.407 (d) of FCC rules, for UNII device operates in 5.15-5.25GHz band, the transmitter must be equipped with integral antenna. In your installation instruction, I have no problem with installation procedures for device installed in TECRA 9000 notebook computer. The mini PCI is located in the area where the end user has not need to access. I consider MB22 installed in TECRA 9000 complies with integral antenna requirements. However, I do not consider this is the case when MB22 is installed in Portege 4000. There are only two screws on the bottom of notebook computer. User can easily access the MB 22. In order to comply with integral antenna requirement, I will require the following : When MB 22 is installed in the Portege 4000, after the antennas are connected to MB22, Toshiba needs to apply Epoxy ( Type of Epoxy and Model no needs to provide ) to the antenna connectors which make the antennas permanently attached to the MB22. Please consider this requirement and modify the installation procedures. Reply to Question #1: The modification point is : The access door of Mini PCI Wireless LAN is fixed by 'Special Screw'. Please see page 3 and 5. End user never access Mini PCI WLAN by above procedure. We have decided above procedure based on the information below from Peter san. >Under FCC, "Caution: Exposure to Radio Frequency Radiation, it is specified that antenna used in the 5.15-5.25 GHz frequency band must be integral antenna which provides no access to the end user. >Please advise as to how you intend to make the connection inaccessible: > -By providing a permanent connection, such as, the connectors are glued together. > -FCC has indicated that they will also accept some means of making the access door > inaccessible by using a special screw, requiring a special tool to open it Best Regards Mike Kuo Compliance Certification Services 561F Monterey Road Morgan Hill, CA 95037 *Tel:(408)463-0885 x:105 *Fax:(408)463-0888 *:[email protected] http:\\www.ccsemc.com

Toshiba Corporation FCC ID: CJ6UPA3233WL Request for transmitter modular approval Transmitter Module Characteristics Product Category: Mobile Device ( Section 2.1091 of FCC rules ) Item Requirements EUT 1 Have its own RF shielding Device is equipped with Metal shielding to cover RF section. Refer to external photos 2 Have buffered modulation/data inputs (if such inputs are provided), All inputs to the modules are buffered through logic or microprocessor inputs. 3 Have it own power supply regulation Internal 2.5V power regulator. Refer to Theory of Operation 4 Meet the antenna requirements of Section 15.203 Device is equipped with unique antenna ( u.FL(v)- LP-040/u.FL-LP-062) connector. Refer to page 1 of external photos 5 Be tested in a stand-alone configuration, i.e., the antenna, AC or DC power and data input/output lines must be connected to the module but, the module must not be inside another case during testing Device was tested outside the host computer as stand-alone confi guration. Refer to setup photos. 6 Be labeled with its own FCC ID number, and if the FCC ID is not visible when the module is installed inside another device, then the outside of the device into which the module is installed must also display a label referring to the enclosed module. Two proposed FCC ID label format are included in the filing. One of label is to be placed on the module and the other label is to be placed on the outside of system. Refer to FCC ID label format and location file. 7 Address compliance with the Commission's RF exposure limits in Sections 1.1310 and 2.1093. In addition, spread spectrum transmitters operating under Section 15.247 are required to address RF exposure compliance in accordance with Section 15.247(b)(4). Antenna will be installed on the top edge of LCD panel of notebook computer to provide at least 20cm separation distance to the body.
