INCLUDED IN YOUR PACKAGE Cordless HandsetAC Adapter Base UnitUser Guide NiMH Battery10-foot, 4-wire RJ-11 Line Cord Rubber Battery Screw Cover15-foot, 8-wire RJ-45 Cable Phillips ScrewClear Plastic Overlay PREPARING TO USE THE CL1200 SERIES 1. Prepare to install the battery into the cordless handset by firmly pressing down on the top of the battery cover and sliding it off. If cover is secured with a screw, remove the screw first. 2. Locate the lightly embossed numbers “1” and “2” on the battery’s plastic connector. 3. Insert the battery connector into the handset’s connector with the embossed numbers facing up. Note: The handset may “beep” when the battery is connected. This is not an indication that the telephone is ready to use. To obtain optimal perform- ance of the telephone, be sure to charge the battery for 15 to 20 hours. 4. Replace the battery compartment cover and retaining screw. 5. Insert the provided rubber screw cover. 6. Turn the telephone base so the back panel is facing you. Insert either end of the RJ-45 cable into the jack on the back of the telephone labeled LINE. 7. Insert the other end of the cable into the jack on the AC adapter labeled PHONE. 8. Insert one end of the RJ-11 line cord into the jack on the AC adapter labeled LINE. 9. Insert the other end of this line cord into a telephone jack. 10. Plug the AC adapter into an unswitched electrical outlet. 11. Once your telephone is connected, remove the plastic overlay and place the paper faceplate over the keys. Replace the plastic overlay by hooking the tabs on the overlay into the recessed slots located on both sides. The overlay is easiest to insert when the left or right side tabs are inserted first, and the middle of the overlay is slightly bowed to allow for insertion of the other tabs. 12. Place the cordless handset on the base unit. CHARGING THE BATTERY The rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery must be fully charged before using the phone for the first time. It is recom- mended that that battery pack be charged for approximately 15 to 20 hours, without interruption, before use. To charge the battery, place the handset, keypad down, in the base unit. Make sure the CHARGELED on the base lights. If the LED does not light: 1. Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged in. 2. Ensure that the AC adapter is not plugged into a switched electrical outlet. 3. Ensure that the handset charging contacts at the bottom of the handset are making good contact with the base unit’s charging contacts. CLEANING THE BATTERY CONTACTS To maintain a good charge, it is important to clean all charging contacts on the handset and base unit. Use a pencil eraser or other contact cleaner.Do not use any liquids or solvents . BATTERY SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS 1. Use only Teledex-approved battery replacements. 2. Dispose of used batteries according to local codes pertaining to NiMH batteries. 3. Do not dispose of batteries in fire, as they may explode 4. Charge the telephone's batteries only while in the telephone handset, and only by using the telephone base unit to charge. Do not attempt to remove the batteries and charge them in a separate charging unit. 5. Do not short-circuit the battery pack, as this may cause it to explode or catch fire. ADJUSTING THE RING VOLUME The up and down volume keys will adjust the ringer volume of the telephone. Additionally, the CL1200 series telephone has an optional “ascending” ring volume mode, where the ring volume begins at the lowest setting, then automatically rings louder with each successive ring during an incoming call. To select the ascending ring volume mode, follow these steps: Press the FLASHkey; then the 4key; then the STOREkey, then the number 1on the keypad. ADJUSTING SPEAKERPHONE VOLUME The speakerphone has eight (8) levels. When the speakerphone is activated, the volume is initially set at level six (6). To adjust the speakerphone volume, locate the volume up/down keys, located on the front surface of the phone below the keypad. Pressing the “down” arrow key will decrease the volume level, while pressing the “up” arrow key will increase it. ADJUSTING HANDSET RECEIVE VOLUME The handset has four (4) volume levels. The volume is initially set at level two (2). To adjust the handset volume, locate the volume up/down keys, located on the handset, below the “#”key. Pressing the “minus”(-)key will decrease the volume level, while pressing the “plus”(+)key will increase it. Chris Harvey From: Chris Harvey [[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, March 10, 2004 7:27 AM To: 'Bandele Adepoju'; 'Chris Harvey' Cc: 'Mike Kuo' Subject: RE: Additional Information needed AN04T3649 Teledex FCC ID: DXACL2200 Sensitivity: Confidential Page 1 of 4Message 3/12/2004 Bandele, I should have asked you to define your term ‘data’ because I have always asked for the users RF exposure statements. I am sorry if I answered your question incorrectly. SAR testing documentation shows that you comply with the limits. The RF Exposure statements in the Users Manual are still required by the FCC Rules, as stated in FCC 15.247(b)(5) and mentioned in my original request. I have copied a sample of an appropriate RF Exposure statement below for your reference. Although the design of the phone in question did not require Body-worn testing or statements, I have included the example text for body-worn operation for your reference. FCC RF Exposure Information In August 1996 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States with its action in Report and Order FCC 96-326 adopted an updated safety standard for human exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic energy emitted by FCC regulated transmitters. Those guidelines are consistent with the safety standard previously set by both U.S. and international standards bodies. This phone has been tested to and complies with the FCC guidelines and these international standards. Body-worn Operation: This device was tested for typical body-worn operations using the supplied belt-clip. The use of other belt-clip/holsters and other non-tested accessories may not comply with FCC RF Exposure requirements and should be avoided. P R E C A U T I O N S & I hope I have been much clearer. Please contact me if you have any further questions. It is designed for analog PSTN interface. Main blocks are System Controller, Baseband Controller, Audio Codec, DSS Transceiver, Power Amplifier and Antenna. The base unit powered by 9V wall adapter, handset is powered by 3 sell NiMN rechargeable battery. Block Diagram System Controller The system controller handles all of the phone features, the DSS engine, the RF module settings, and the link between the base station and the handset. The system controller provides a microcontroller with interrupt, wait-state, and system timer support. The system controller also provides General Purpose I/O (GPIO) and serial ports for peripheral control, a baseband modem (DSS engine) for signal processing of the received and transmitted data, and an audio modem for ADPCM conversion. Baseband Controller TELEDEX LLC 6311 San Ignacio Avenue, San Jose, California 95119 Tel: 408-363-3100, Fax: 408-363-3136 www.teledex.com The baseband modem section performs all of the spread spectrum modulation and demodulation, data timing recovery, AFC, AGC, framing, and rate adaptation required for a DSS system. Transmit/Receive Data Paths The transmit data path comprises a parallel-to-serial converter, scrambler, differential encoder, spreader, and modulator. The receive data path comprises analog-to- digital converters, matched filter with frequency compensation insertion, data demodulator, descrambler and serial-to-parallel converter. Scrambler/Descrambler The scrambler/descrambler is a 16-bit maximum length PN sequence generator. Its output is XOR’ed with TX data for scrambling and XOR’ed with RX data for descrambling. The voice and supervisory bits are scrambled. The PN sequence generator’s starting location is programmable using one memory mapped register along with the two ID registers. This starting location is used to initialize the PN generator at the start of each link. The MSB of the PN generator is used to scramble/descramble. The first frame bit scrambled/descrambled uses the initialized value of the MSB. Spread Spectrum Spreader A 1 2-chip spreading code is used to meet FCC part 15.247 requirements for a DSS system. The spreading code cyclic duration is 1 2 times that of the encoded data. The code starts and stops on encoded bit boundaries. The spreading code may be configured by the controller. The data from the differential encoder is input to the modulator. An analog block exists at th…
