More than just thin.™                                               NetXpress™ XL1000/2000 Administrator’s Guide     Thank you for purchasing the Netier NetXpress XL thin-client computer. Or if you prefer, contact us via Email at [email protected].    Please read all instructions, and save these instructions for future reference. Always unplug your NetXpress XL computer from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. Only use manufacturer-approved peripherals and attachments. Unapproved peripherals and attachments may be hazardous to system operation. Do not use your NetXpress XL thin-client computer near water. Do not place this computer on an unstable cart, stand, or table. The computer may fall, causing serious personal injury as well as damage to the appliance. Slots and openings in the NetXpress XL case are provided for ventilation. To ensure reliable operation of the computer and to protect it from overheating, do not block or cover these openings. Never place the NetXpress XL near or over a radiator or other heat source. Also, do not place your NetXpress in a built-in installation, such as a bookcase or shelf, unless proper ventilation is provided. Operate your NetXpress XL only from the power source type indicated on the label. If you are not sure of the type of power supplied in your home or office, please consult your value added reseller (VAR) or local power company. The NetXpress XL is equipped with a three-wire grounding plug, which is a common plug type that incorporates a third pin for grounding. This plug only fits into a grounding-type power outlet, which contains three receptacles. This design provides added safety. If your outlet is not suited to accept the three-wire grounding plug, contact a certified electrictian to replace the outlet that accepts three-wire grounding plugs. Caution:Do not undertake any actions that inhibit proper electrical grounding (e.g., removing the grounding prong or using two-wire plug adapters). Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Position your NetXpress XL such that the power cord is protected from any traffic or from heavy obstacles. Follow all warnings and instructions listed on the computer. To protect your NetXpress XL from power surges, unplug it from the wall outlet when not in use for long periods. Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in fire or electric shock. Never push objects of any kind into your NetXpress XL computer case slots. Foreign objects can damage the computer and may result in fire or electric shock. In the event any liquid is spilled on the unit, immediately unplug the external power supply at the wall outlet. If any liquid has penetrated openings in the unit, contact your hardware service provider before you attempt to apply power to the unit again. Do not attempt to service your NetXpress XL yourself. Opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Unplug this computer from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: •When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed. •If liquid has been spilled into the computer. •If the computer has been exposed to rain or water. •If the computer does not operate normally when the operating instructions are followed. Ferrite core is considered as special accessories under FCC term ( section 15.27). It is Grantee's responsibilites to provide instruction on how to install this clamp-on type ferrite core and it is Grantee's responsiblities to provide such ferrite core with EUT. Instruction on how to install this clamp-on type ferrite core shall be included in the user manual. Please provide revised user manual to include such instruction and a statement from Wyse that ferrite core with same type as used in final compliance testing will be provided with each unit in the U.S. Question #3: Please include additional statement ( per 15.27 ( c ) of FCC rules) in the User's manual : " Shielded interface cables must be used to ensure product compliance." Question #4: In the test report, there is no indication what is the CPU speed tested. Page 3, section 3.3 of test report indicated the frequency range investigated for radiated emission tests was from 30 MHz - 1000MHz. It appears the CPU speed is higher than 108MHz. In accordance to 15.33 ( b) (1) table, if the frequency used or generated is above 108MHz but less than 500MHz, the upper frequency to be investigated should be 2GHz; if the frequency used or generated is above 500MHz but less than 1000MHz, the upper frequency should be investigated is 5GHz. Please make necessary measurement to comply this requirement. First Street, San Jose, CA Test completed: May 25, 2001 Test Engineer: Harinder Phul Approved by: Jimmy Nguyen May 30, 2001 1.0INTRODUCTION 1.1 Scope This record is intended to document conformance with the EMC Directive (89/336/EEC) and details the results of testing performed on May 25, 2001 on the model WT8440XL . 1.2 Purpose Testing was performed to evaluate the emissions performance of the WT8440XL with respect to EN 55022 Class B . 1.3 Summary The Windows Terminal WT8440XL was found to be compliant to EN 55022 Class B Emission Requirements. 1.4 Testing Requirements Testing was performed using procedures and criteria contained in EN 55022 . 2.0TEST ENVIRONMENT 2.1 Test Sample Description WT8440XL is designed to communicate with a host system via Twiste d Pair LAN interface on NT Windows Server. Test Software The software used during the test was a continuous loop batch file on Windows NT station. The program creates an entire page of “H”’s and writes the entire page to the screen, and it also prints to the serial and parallel devices as used in the test setup. The cables were moved around to find the maximum emission from the EUT. 2.2 Test Facilities 2.2.1 Emissions Test Site Radiated emissions testing was performed on a weather protected Open Area Test Site. The description of OATS is filed at the WYSE Regulatory Engineering Department. The OATS is located at 3471 N. First Street, San Jose, California, USA. Conducted emission testing was performed inside a shielded enclosure ( Screen Room ) in the WYSE RFI laboratory. The description of the screen room is filed at WYSE Regulatory Engineering Department. The Screen Room is located at 3471 N. First Street, San Jose, California, USA. May 30, 2001 2.3 Test Equipment The following are the list of equipment used during the radiation and conducted testing. Radiated: HP Receiver model 85460A (RES BW: 30 KHz-100KHz, VBW: 10KHz – 30KHz) Conducted: HP 85650A Quasi-Peak Adapter HP 85680B Spectrum Analyzer (RES BW: 30KHz –100KHz, VBW: 10KHz – 30KHz) SETUP: In accordance with WYSE Technology test procedure. PROCEDURE: Biconilog antenna w as used for frequency range 30MHz - 2 GHz. The frequency range w as checked for signals strength. The antenna w as then raised and low ered for final maximization. The frequency range w as checked with antennas in the horizontal and vertical polarization. 3.0TEST RESULTS 3.1 Test Description CISPR Publication 22:1997 , limits and methods of measurements of radio interface of information technology equipment, was the guiding document for the test. The product’s radiated emissions from 30 MHz to 1000 MHz and its power mains conducted emissions from 150 KHz to 30 MHz were measured. 3.2 Test Configuration The EUT was configured with a typical mix of available peripherals which fully configured all types of communications ports of the EUT and exercised it in a typical manner. 3.3 Test Procedure For radiated emissions testing, the equipment is installed on a 0.8 meter high non-conductive turntable 10 meters from the receiving antenna mast. The EUT is fully exercised during the test to maximize emissions. The receiving antenna is scanned over the height range of 1 to 4 meters is both polarities and the turntable is rotated with emissions level observed at each frequency. During the process the equipment configuration is also modified by moving the interconnecting cables to find the typical configuration that maximizes emissions at each frequency. The frequency range from 30 MHz to 1000 MHz is explored. Measurement data is compared to Class B limit. May 30, 2001 For conducted emissions testing the equipment is moved to a 0.8 meter high platform and the EUT and Configurations equipment are powered from a different LISNs.
