It uses an internal amplifier to increase the radio output so that it can connect to APs/Wireless Routers furt her away and transfer data at range faster (than traditional 802.11g CardBus cards). Buffalo Technology recommends use with the High Power Wireless Router (WZR-HP-G54) for maximum range and performance. An external antenna can be added to the High Power Wireless Notebook Adapter to increase its range and versatility. Antenna information can be found on Page 24. 4 WinXP Setup Windows 2000 & XP – Installation & Configuration 1. Installing the Wireless Notebook Adapter Drivers: β—— Insert the AirNavigator CD into the CD-ROM drive of the PC. The Air Navigator Setup Wizard launches automatically. If the Air Navigator Setup Wiz - ard does not launch automati- cally, launch the wizard manu - ally by selecting Start>>Run to open the Run dialog box. Enter D:\Setup.exe in the Open field. D: represents the letter as- signed to the CD-ROM drive. If another letter is assigned to the CD-ROM drive, your command should refelect that difference. Click the OK button to launch the wizard. 5 β—— Select Install Wireles Adapter. Click the OK button to begin the installation process. β—— Review the Software License Agreement. Click the Yes but- ton to confirm your agreement with the terms and continue in- stalling the Wireless Notebook Adapter drivers. Click the No button to abort the installation process. CardBus slots are usually located on the left or right side of the notebook. Once the Wire- less Notebook Adapter is installed correctly, the Found New Hardware Wizard will launch auto- matically. If the Found New Hardware Wizard does not launch, remove the Wireless Notebook Adapter and restart the notebook. Reinsert the Wireless Notebook Adapter once the notebook has rebooted. Then, the Found New Hardware Wizard will launch automatically. 7 WinXP Setup β—— Select the driver you want to install. If multiple drivers are listed, select the most recent driver version. Click the Next button. β—— If a window opens, stating that your driver does not pass Windows Logo testing, click the Continue Anyway button. When the Wireless Notebook Adapter is successfully installed, click the Finish button. Restart your PC if prompted. 8 3. Configuring Wireless Zero Configuration Service: β—— If the Wireless Zero Configuration Service is activated, Windows will scan for available wireless access points once the Wireless Notebook Adapter is properly installed. If Windows detects one or more access points, a net - working icon appears on the task bar. One or more wireless networks are available appears as a caption accompanying the icon. β–  Note: If the Wireless Zero Configuration Service is not functioning, select Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services. Select Automatic in the Startup Type field of Wireless Zero Configuration Service to enable the Wireless Zero Configuration Service. The default value of Wireless Zero Configuration Service is Automatic . β—— Right click the networking icon in the taskbar and se- lect View Available Wireless Networks to display a list of available wireless networks. Select an access point network name or SSID and click the Connect button to establish a connection. You may need to check the box indicating you are connecting to an unsecured network. See Page 8 if you need to enter an SSID network name or WEP/WPA encryption key. Thank you for your review. Danielle Zhan Compliance Certification Services 561 F Monterey Road Morgan Hill, CA 95037 Tel: (408) 463 0885 Fax: (408) 463 0888 -----Original Message----- From: Compliance Certification Services [mailto:[email protected] ] Sent: Thursday, June 30, 2005 4:06 PM To: Mike Kuo Subject: Buffalo Inc., FCC ID: FDI-09101841-0, Assessment NO.: AN05T4907, Notice#1 Question #1: Page 36 of user manual indicated that this cardbus must be installed to provide 20 cm separation distance to the end user. Based upon the description contains in the user manual, the primary function for this cardbus is to be used with notebook computer. When cardbus card installed in the notebook computer, while at lap held position, the separation distance between the cardbus to the user is less than 20 cm. Please revise the RF exposure statement and take into account that when external antenna is used, the separation distance shall be at least 20 cm; when it is used with integral antenna with notebook computer, the separation distance is not required. [Danielle] Please find revised user manual that addresses the question. << File: WLI-CB-G54HP-Manual_R.pdf >> Question #2: Page 12 of DTS report, the measured 6dB bandwidth has wrong unit, please make necessary correction. [Danielle] Report revised as attached. << File: 05I3515-1 FCC DTS Report_Revised.pdf >> Question #3 : When the external antenna is connected to the cardbus card, will the internal antenna also acted as transmitting antenna ? If not, please provide engineering justification to support it. [Danielle] See revised Theory of Operation that addresses the question. << File: technical_description_Revised.pdf >> SAR portion Question #4: during G mode investigation, the duty cycle is 65%. Based upon FCC SAR evaluation guideline, for typical 802.11x device, a near 100 % duty cycle is expected. If the device can not achieve near 100 % duty cycle, tests must be performed to determine output linearity at the intended maximum duty factor for linear operations and half of the maximum duty factor. [Danielle] Additional SAR evaluation performed with result as attached. 2 << File: SAR vs Duty cycle.pdf >> Best Regards Mike Kuo The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Failure to provide the requested information within 30 days of the original e-mail date may result in application dismissal and forfeiture of the filing fee. Also, please note that partial responses increase processing time and should not be submitted. Power is conducted. For Portable operation condition in respect to section 2.1093 of rules: SAR compliance has been established in the laptop computer(s) configurations with PCMCIA slot configurations as tested in this filing, and can be used in laptop computers with substantially similar physical dimensions, construction, and electrical and RF characteristics. Compliance of this device in all final host configurations is the responsibility of the Grantee. End-users must be provided with specific information required to satisfy RF exposure compliance for all final host devices. The antenna(s) used for this transmitter must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter within a host device. Highest reported SAR is: body 0.717 W/kg. For Mobile operation condition in respect to section 2.1091 of rules: this device has been tested with external antenna(s) as documented in this filing. When the external antenna is used, the antenna(s) used for this transmitter must be installed to provide a separation distance of at least 20 cm from all persons and must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter. End-users and installers must be provided with antenna installation and transmitter operating conditions for satisfying RF exposure compliance.
