16-0142-001 Rev A 1/2020 TransCore’s Multiprotocol Reader Extreme Frequency Hopper (MPRX-FH) is a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader designed for harsh environment applications. This guide provides site planning, testing, and operating instructions for this system. This guide is intended for use by authorized TransCore dealers, professional installers, and service personnel. The MPRX-FH must be installed by a professional installer. Once installed, configured, and verified by testing, the end user cannot change the configuration (transmit power, etc) of the MPRX-FH. If changes are required, the end user must contact their authorized TransCore dealer, professional installer, and/or service personnel for additional service. Antenna types not included in this list that have a gain greater than the maximum gain indicated for any type listed are strictly prohibited for use with this device. FCC COMPLIANCE NOTICE The MPRX-FH complies with FCC Part 15.247 and IC RSS-247 rules and has been designed to operate with the listed antennas presented in Table 1. The effective maximum gain of each antenna is listed as well as the required attenuation to ensure that effective gain of greater than the allowed 6dB cannot occur. The required attenuation presented in Table 1 also includes any cable loss that is included with the system. To reduce potential interference to other systems, antenna gain and type should be selected in a way that the EIRP (equivalent isotropically radiated power) is no more than the allowed 36dBm, preferably as low as possible that is needed for proper operation of the system. This loss can include the cable loss for the length of the cable required to set up system. Example: To set up an MPRX-FH reader for use with the AA3152 antenna using a cable length of LMR-400 with an average attenuation of 3.94dBi and a length of 115ft, the cable loss would be 4.53dBi. With a gain of 14dBi iii from the AA3152, and another external attenuator with a value of at least 3.47dBi or greater, this setup would meet the FCC rule of the maximum EIRP of 36dBm. AA3152 Universal Toll Antenna Features Toll lane suitability Symmetrical broadcast pattern Low-profile design Weatherproof enclosure The AA3152 Universal Toll Antenna (UTA) broadcasts and receives radio frequency (RF) signals in the 902 to 928 MHz frequency band. For installations requiring a relatively symmetrical, three-dimensional reading area, the UTA offers a broadcast pattern of similar size and shape in both the horizontal and vertical planes. The UTA read area is ideal for toll lane applications because the read area has virtually no side or back lobes, helping to confine antenna coverage to a single lane width. Only 2.25 inches (5.7 centimeters) in depth, the AA3152 antenna is also ideally suited to applications requiring a low-profile antenna. The weatherproof enclosure provides favorable electrical characteristics, resistance to ultraviolet radiation, and maximum corrosion resistance. With these properties the antennas achieve outstanding reading and writing results with ranges up to 10 cm with a typical selectivity of 5 cm. The special design of these antennas guarantees interference-free operation in multi-reader environments. The ULORA was especially developed to read dipolar tags (far field tags) at very limited distances. In addition this antenna can address looped tags (near field tags) up to 3 cm. The LORA version was developed in order to increase the range for near fi eld tags, with which ranges up to 7 cm can be achieved. The range of applications of the antennas according to tag type is displayed in the tag association table. AA3110 Parapanel Antenna The AA3110 Parapanel Antenna broadcasts and receives radio frequency (RF) signals in the 902 to 928 MHz RF band. It is a precision dipole array designed for directional transmission and reception. For installations requiring a reading area larger in one dimension than in another, the AA3110 Parapanel Antenna provides a 47° difference in half-power beam width from the horizontal to the vertical plane. The AA3110 antenna’s relatively narrow seven- inch (17.78 centimeter) depth makes it ideally suited to applications requiring a low-profile antenna. Rugged A heavy laminated fiberglass radome encloses the AA3110 Parapanel Antenna for protection against severe environmental conditions. Radome materials provide favorable electrical characteristics and resistance to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Drilled, tapped, and plugged holes accommodate the AT5720 Check Tag and Thomas & Betts (T&B) hood mounting accessories. Approved Antenna List The MPRX-FM complies with FCC Part 15.247 and IC RSS-247 rules and has been designed to operate with the listed antennas presented in Table X. The effective maximum gain of each antenna is listed as well as the required attenuation to ensure that effective gain of greater than the allowed 6dB cannot occur. The required attenuation presented in Table X also includes any cable loss that is included with the system. To reduce potential interference to other systems antenna, gain and type should be selected in a way that the eirp. (equivalent isotopically radiated power) is no more than the allowed 36dBm, preferably as low as possible that is needed for proper operation of the system. TABLE X: Approved Antenna List Table X has the antenna polarization, peak linear dBi (decibels over isotropic) gain figures, and the required loss required between the MPRX-FH and the antenna. This loss can include the cable loss for the length of the cable required to set up system. An Example Setup: Setting up an MPRX-FH with use with the AA3152 using a cable length of 115ft LMR-400 with a average attenuation of 3.94dB/100ft making the total cable loss 4.53dB. With a gain of the AA3152 of 14dB subtracting the cable loss (4.53dB) an external attenuator with a value of at least 3.47dB or greater would be required for this setup would be required to meet the FCC rule of the maximum eirp of 36dBm. They are the most rugged RFID antennas designed to date and have surpassed every test thrown at them, including being run over by a car. The HD7 Series antennas are circularly polarized, US models are RHCP (Right Hand Circularly Polarized) and European models are LHCP (Left hand Circularly Polarized). Because of the circular polarization, the orientat…
