Re: Certification for TRW Transceiver Model/PN(s): 218143-119, 218143-120 FCC ID: GQ4-40R IC: 1470A-12R The device under test is manufactured by the grantee (TRW) and sold as an OEM product. Per 47 CFR 2.909, 2.927, 2.931, 2.1033, 15.15(b) etc..., the grantee must ensure the end-user has all applicable / appropriate operating instructions. When end-user instructions are required, as in the case of this product, the grantee must notify the OEM to notify the end-user. TRW will supply the following information to the reseller/distributor dictating what must be included in the end user’s manual for the commercial product. INFORMATION TO BE INCLUDED IN THE END USER'S MANUAL The following information must be included in the end product user’s manual to ensure continued FCC and Industry Canada regulatory compliance. The ID numbers must be included in the manual if the device label is not readily accessible to the end user. Operational Description

TRW Automotive February 8, 2008 TEE 24175 Research Dr. Farmington Hills, MI 48335-2642 Tel 248.478.7210 Fax 248.478.7241 Re: Certification for Honda MY09 TPM Highline Receiver Model #: 218143-119, 218143-120 FCC ID: GQ4-40R Canada IC: 1470A-12R GENERAL DESCRIPTION The TPM receiver is used to demodulate and decode information transmitted from the wheel- mounted sensors. This information is then sent to a display unit. The receiver communicates tire status to the vehicle via a high speed CAN bus. The receiver shall be able to do diagnostics on the system to determine if the system needs to be serviced. When the ignition is in the run position, the receiver will activate the initiators to put the wheel-mounted sensors in normal operating mode, and start monitoring for RF data from the sensors. The time it takes the receiver to complete this operation is approximately 16 seconds. The receiver will also activate the initiators to request data from the sensors, if the receiver does not receive information from the sensors for more than 5 minutes. When the ignition is in the off position, the receiver will activate the initiators to put the wheel- mounted sensors in shut-down mode. The receiver will then turn itself off. This operation takes approximately 30 seconds. The initiator is part of the system used to detect the tire pressure sensors of the tires in a vehicle. Four initiators are used in each vehicle, one for each tire. They are located in or near the wheel well and are connected by wire harness to the central receiver. This central receiver sends a 125KHz waveform over the wire harness to the initiator where it is converted to a magnetic field that is broadcast to a sensor in the tire.

Introduction TRW Inc. model/PN(s) 218143-119, 218143-120 was(were) tested for compliance with FCC Regulations, Part 15, adopted under Docket 87-389, April 18, 1989, and with Industry Canada RSS-210/Gen, Issue 7, June 2007. The tests were performed at the University of Michigan Radiation Laboratory Willow Run Test Range following the procedures described in ANSI C63.4-2003 "Methods of Measurement of Radio- Noise Emissions from Low-Voltage Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the Range of 9 kHz to 40 GHz". Device Under Test 3.1 Identification The DUT was designed and manufactured by TRW Automotive Electronics, 2240 Cranbrook Drive, Auburn, New York, 13021. It is identified as: TRW Inc. Transceiver Model/PN(s): 218143-119, 218143-120 FCC ID: GQ4-40R IC: 1470A-12R 3.2 Variants The DUT contains a 125-160 kHz LF transmitter (initiator) and 315 MHz superheterodyne receiver. This report details the emissions relating to the transmitter portion of the device. The DUT is a 125 kHz Transceiver designed for an onboard automobile Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and as such, it is powered from an automotive 12VDC source. Receiver and LF signal generating circuitry are housed in a plastic case approximately 3 by 5 by 1.5 inches. Coils are external. For testing, a generic harness was provided by the manufacturer. There are two variants of this device. Model 218143-119 was fully tested and represents one of two software variantions. Model 218143-120 is the other software variation, with slightly modified receiver processing for different tire pressure performance criteria. Both are electrically identical with identical RF. 3.3 Modes of Operation The DUT is designed to transmit over a range of frequencies between 125 and 160 kHz. The LF coil is tuned to the lowest operating frequency (125 kHz), and emissions were determined to be maximum at that frequency. All measurements are performed at with the device operating at 125 kHz. 3.4 EMI Relevant Modifications No EMI Relevant Modifications were performed by this test laboratory. 4.
