Operational Description

Product Description The Printer Reader is an industrial strength fixed Reader targeted to printer market and other smaller applications. The Reader offers superior and robust read range capabilities, anti-collision features, and very high data read rates unmatched by other systems. It can be easily mounted in areas of ingress and egress where large numbers of tagged objects are inbound or outbound in a logistics process. It is packaged ready to be interfaced to your host computer, and can easily be programmed to perform specific tasks. The Reader provides all of the RF and control functions required to power and communicate with Class 0 passive RFID tags. It sends digital data to the tag (through one antenna at any given time) on a pulse width modulated On Off Keyed (OOK) transmitter signal, demodulates the identification signal received from the tag, and then sends the data to your host computer. The Printer Reader network is structured to allow for flexibility in system configurations and in the arrangement of read points to optimize coverage at a low overall cost. The system also employs a unique, patented reader-driven interrogation protocol that allows up to two hundred (200) tags to be read each second. This powerful read rate supplies the muscle to overcome interference in noisy environments, and to guarantee acceptable read rates at each read point when large numbers of antennas are multiplexed together. Readers can be powered either locally or through the network cable in the event there is not a local power source near by, and to minimize overall network infrastructure costs.

RF Exposure Info

RF Exposure Exhibit for Zebra I28RFID-110XI-01 Printer Since the EUT only transmits when it receives a signal from the computer, normal operation during transmission would have the user sitting at the computer, not touching the printer. There are no buttons on the device to make it transmit. This means a distance of at least 20 centimeters is normally maintained between the transmitter’s radiating structure and the body of the user or nearby persons. Therefore, this device is classified under section 2.1091 as a “mobile” device. Although this device is categorically excluded from RF exposure evaluation under Part 2, it can be shown that the device meets the limits used for evaluating other devices (those which are not excluded) under this section. Section 2.1091 for mobile devices states that the limits are given in 1.1310. The limit given in 1.1310 for general population at 927.25 MHz is a Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) limit of (f/1500) mW/cm 2 . For 927.25 MHz this limit is 0.618 mW/cm 2 . The FCC OET Bulletin 65 Section 2 can be used to determine compliance with guidelines for human exposure to RF radiation. We will use equation 3 of that section for predicting RF fields. The highest power measurement for this device is 28.79 dBm. For this prediction we will use a worst-case power of 29 dBm or 800 mW. Since the device is “mobile”, we will use a worst-case distance of 20 cm. For worst-case antenna gain, we will use a gain of one. Using equation 3 of OET Bulletin 65 Section 2, the power density is calculated to be 0.08 mW/cm 2 . This is well within the limit given in 1.1310.
