Form # 41475-01 Rev. 1-23-2001 Hunter Fan Company Remote Ceiling Fan & Light Control ® Transmitter Model: 85095 Transmitter Battery: 12 V, Type 23A, MN-21 or equivalent Receiver Model: 85069 Ratings: 120 VAC, 60 Hz,1.0 Amp Fan Receiver Weight: 8 oz. 300 Watts incandescent light Notes: 1. This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is sub- ject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. 2. This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment gen- erates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not in- stalled and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harm- ful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guar- antee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or televi- sion reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: • Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. • Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver. • Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected. • Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help. 3. For use only with electrically reversible ceiling fans rated at 1.0 amp or less, and fan incandescent light kits rated at 300 watts or less. 4. Not for use with shaded-pole or non-reversible motors. Not recom- mended for use with the Hunter Original®. Before Installing the Control: 1. Use the pull-chain switch to set the fan speed to the HIGH position before installation. Do not use the pull-chain to change the fan speed after installation, as damage to your ceiling fan or control may result. The speed of the fan should only be changed by the control. 2. Set the ceiling fan light kit to the ON position before installation. The light level should only be changed by the control. Receiver Installation: 1. Disconnect power to the ceiling fan and light kit at the main electric panel. Remove fuse or move circuit breaker to the OFF position. Turn off wall switch. 2. IMPORTANT! Before installing this control, change the factory default jumper switch settings to your own unique code. Refer to Figure 1. Using small pliers or tweezers, pull out one or more of the three jumper swtiches by clamping on the small metal strip. Place the jumper switches in the desired spots. Be sure the jumper switch positions of the transmitter and receiver match, or the ceiling fan will not func- tion. Select different combinations of jumper switches to prevent mis- operation due to other remote control fans, garage door openers, etc. 3. Install the ceiling fan according to its instructions, up to the point of making the electrical connections. 4. Use the 2 large wire nuts supplied to connect the receiver and house wiring, then use the 3 small wire nuts supplied to connect the receiver and ceiling fan wiring. Refer to the Wiring Diagram in Figure 2. Caution: Risk of Electrical Shock! All wiring must be performed in accordance with national and local electri- cal codes. If you are unfamiliar with the wiring codes, you should use a qualified electrician. To avoid overheating and possible damage to other equipment, do not install to control a receptacle, fluorescent light fixture, motor operated ap- pliance, or transformer-supplied appliance. Use only to control one paddle- blade ceiling fan and incandescent light fixture. Install receiver as shown in Figure 3. Line up slots on the receiver with the ceiling plate. Be sure to push wire connections from the ceiling back up through the hole in the ceiling pate. Wires attaching from the ceiling plate to the fan should be placed inside the canopy under the receiver. Press the remote control’s HIGH speed button (refer to Figure 4). The fan should start and reach it’s maximum speed. If the fan does not start, or is turning too slow, turn off the power at the wall switch. Pull the fan’s pull chain to change speed. Reapply power and try High speed again. Repeat this procedure until you have confirmed that the fan’s pull chain is set to HIGH speed. Operation: 1. Turn ON wall switch, the light will turn ON at maximum brightness. 2. Light Operation: • Press and quickly release the light button on the hand held re- mote to turn the light OFF or ON. (Light will come ON at maxi- mum brightness.) • Press and hold the light button for more than 1 second to turn the light ON and decrease from maximum brightness to OFF. • Release the light button when the desired light level is reached. • Continue to hold the light button to repeat the cycle. (Maxi- mum–light level decrease–OFF) • While the light is ON, holding the light button will decrease the light brightness. • Turning the light OFF resets the dimming function. The next press of the light button will start at maximum brightness. 3. Fan Operation: • Press the High, Medium, or Low speed buttons to turn the ceil- ing fan ON at the desired speed. • Press the fan OFF key to turn the ceiling fan OFF. For best fan operation: All…

Form # 41476-01 Rev. 2-23-2001 Hunter Fan Company Integrated Remote Control Instruction Supplement ® Transmitter Model: 85095 Transmitter Battery: 12 V, Type 23A, MN-21 or equivalent Receiver Model: 85069 Ratings: 120 VAC, 60 Hz,1.0 Amp Fan Receiver Weight: 8 oz. 240 Watts incandescent light Read and Save these Instructions Your fan is equipped to be operated by remote control. A receiver device is mounted inside the fan switch housing. A hand-held transmitter is packed in the fan box. The transmitter requires a 12-volt battery (included). The operating range is 15-30 feet. Setting The Code When two or more fans are located near each other, you may desire to have each of them set to a different code, so that the operation of one fan will not affect another. This is accomplished by changing the position of any one or more of a group of 3 jumpers grouped together in the transmitter. The receiver located in the switch housing has the same set of 3 jumpers which must also be changed to match the transmitter settings. These jumpers are very small and can best be operated by using a small pair of pliers or tweezers. In the transmitter, the jumpers are readily accessible from the battery com- partment. The switches in the receiver are located at the bottom of the receiver device in the switch housing. See Figures 1 and 2. To set the jumpers in the receiver, remove the receiver from the switch housing and set the jumpers in the same positions as the jumpers in the transmitter. See Figure 2. Replace the receiver, making sure the mounting holes at the top of the switch housing line up with the matching slots in the top of the receiver. They should align together. Tighten the (3) assembly screws. CAUTION: Make sure the screws are snug, otherwise the assembly could separate during operation. Mounting the Remote Holder A holder is supplied with the transmitter which can be mounted to a exist- ing toggle switch wall plate. The holder will help prevent misplacement of your transmitter by providing a permanent receptacle. See Figure 4. If desired, the holder can be mounted to a convenient location on a wall. Assembling The Switch Housing Assemble the lower switch housing to the upper housing. See Figure 3. First insert the plug from the upper housing into the plug receptacle in the receiver module. NOTE: The plug is polarized and will only go together one way. Make sure you have correctly aligned plug and receptacle. Next, line up the lower switch housing with the upper housing and as- semble together with the (3) screws and lockwashers provided. See Figure 3. See Figure 5. Pressing the “LIGHT” button will turn the light on to full brightness. Hold- ing the button will cause the light to dim slowly—release the button at the desired brightness to hold the selected brightness level. Pushing the button again will turn the light off. The fan may be started by pressing the HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW speed buttons. For best operation, allow the fan to start on HIGH, then select the desired speed. Press the fan OFF button to turn the ceiling fan off. Press the REVERSE button to change the fan’s direction while the fan is running. NOTE: Replace 12-volt battery with type 23 A, MN-21 or equivalent. You have completed the installation of the integrated remote control. Refer back to the “Installing Light Fixture” section in the Installation / Owner’s Manual provided with your Hunter fan for proper instructions. 4. Fan will not reverse. Hunter Fan & Light Remote Control Transmitter Block Diagram Description: The top box of the diagram below represents all of the potential keys that may be pressed for the Hunter 85094-## and 85095-## transmitters. Pressing any key generates an encoded PCM code word which will modulate on a 350 MHz RF carrier for transmission. The encoded PCM code word is obtained from encoder U1 and is ASK modulated by the RF oscillator formed by transistor Q1. Encoder U1 also provides four selectable security bits which can be set by the user. The frequency is factory tuned by capacitor C5 to 350 MHz. Code words for the different commands: 1xxxx0000101 1xxxx0001001 1xxxx0000110 1xxxx0000111 1xxxx0001000 1xxxx0001101 1xxxx0001110(Where “x” can be set to “1” or “0” by the user with DIP switches.) Code “0” is represented as: 0.42 ms 0.21ms Code “1” is represented as: 0.21ms 0.42ms The interval between two code words is about 7.56 ms. Hunter Fan & Light Remote Control Receiver Block Diagram Description: Refer to the block diagram of the Hunter 85068-## and 85069-## receiver below. Power is supplied to the receiving and control circuits through a 5-Volt regulator U1, which is not shown in the diagram. Transistor Q1 is the front amplifier to amplify the signal received from the monopole antenna. Transistor Q2 is the super-regenerative receiving stage, whose frequency is tuned by coil L2 to 350 MHz. Op-Amp U1 is configured as the detector. Microcontroller U2 operates at 4MHz, converting the PCM data signal and determining the 4 data bits for the next stage of processing. Microcontroller U2 also provides four selectable security bits which can be set by the user and must match that of the hand-held remote transmitter to be a valid command. Finally, microcontroller U7 decodes the 4 data bits and performs the desired actions to control the fan speed and direction, and light bulb brightness.
