KCT-53U USB ADAPTER INSTALLATION MANUAL © B62-XXXX-00 (W) SUPPLIED ITEMS • USB Adapter (USB to 9-pin RS-232) • Distribution disc with driver software • Installation Manual (B62-XXXX-XX) SYSTEM REQUIREMENT Operating System: Windows ® 98SE, Windows ® Me, Windows ® 2000, or Windows ® XP operating system. INSTALLING THE DRIVER 1 With the computer power on, plug the KCT-53U into a USB port on the computer. The [New Hardware Wizard] appears. Click Next to continue. 2 ln the dialog box that appears, leave the default choice (search for the best drivers for your device), and click Next to continue. 3 In the dialog box that appears, first put the distribution disc into your CD-ROM drive, choose [Specify a Location], then Browse to the folder on the disc that corresponds to your version of Windows. Click Next to continue. 4 ln the [Ready to install...] dialog box that appears, click Next to continue. The files will now be copied to your hard disk. 5 After the drive files have been copied to the hard disk, a dialog box will appear, telling you that the installation has finished. Click Finish . Windows will now finish the installation. Note: The KCT-53U installs as a virtual port driver on Com3. As Such it does not support devices, such as serial mice, that require an lRQ number or lO Address. CONFIRMING THE INSTALLATION To confirm that the adapter was correctly installed: 1 Open the System folder. 2 Click the Device Manager tab at the top of the dialog box. 3 Click the Plus Sign in front of the Universal Serial Bus Controller heading to see the Universal Serial Bus Controller listing. If the installation completed successfully, you should see an entry for [ATEN USB] to Serial Cable. UNINSTALLING THE DRIVER Windows 98SE/Me: 1 Put the distribution disc in your CD-ROM drive. 2 Open the KCT-53U folder. 3 Click UNINST.EXE . Windows 2000/XP: 1 Open the System folder. 2 Click the Device Manager tab at the top of the dialog box. 3 Click the Plus Sign in front of the Universal Serial Bus Controller heading to see the Universal Serial Bus Controller listing. 4 Select [ATEN USB] to Serial Cable. 5 Click the Remove button. PERIPHERAL INSTALLATION 1 With the computer power on and the KCT-53U adapter already plugged into the computer’s USB port, plug the peripheral into the KCT-53U, then turn the peripheral ON. 2 Follow the installation Wizard’s on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Note: ♦ This procedure only occurs the first time you connect a peripheral. If your peripheral was previously connected and configured for the RS-232 (COM) port, after you perform the Adapter installation and click Finish (see above), the driver will detect the peripheral and install it automatically. ♦ Under Windows 2000/XP, if you connect a modem, you must specify it as a Standard Modem. ♦ Please access the following URL for support information: http://www.kenwood.com/......
