The VXR-9000 repeater is provided with a 25-pin DB-25F female connector for interconnections to accessories.Use a DB-25M 25-pin male connector to connect accessories to the repeater. The pins on the accessory connector are explained in detail as follows: Pin 1: GND Chassis ground for all logic levels and power supply return. Pin 2: GND Chassis ground for all logic levels and power supply return. Pin 3: +13.6 V [Power Supply] This pin provides 13.6 Volts, 1.0 A, regulated DC from the repeater supply. Use a 1 A fuse in the external device’s DC line to prevent damage to the repeater. Pin 4,6,8,10,12,16,19,25: Programmable I/O_0~7 this repeater has eight port programmable input/output feature (PIO) for various control (or being controlled). Each port can be programmed their function, input or output, and its logic (output only). Pin 5: TX AF IN [Analog Transmitter Input] ( Voice Band: 300 ~ 3,000 Hz) Approximately 0.254 V rms audio input on this pin will produce full system deviation at 1 kHz (±5 kHz deviation with 25 kHz channel spacing, ±2.5 kHz deviation with 12.5 kHz channel spacing). Input impedance is 600 .. This audio is injected before the splatter filter stage, so excess signal input levels are clipped. Use shielded cable to connect to this pin, and connect the shield to GND. Pin 7: TONE IN [Transmitter Input] ( Sub-audible Band: 6 ~ 250 Hz) Applying a 0.1 V rms sub-audible tone produces 10% of full system deviation. The input impedance is 600 W, and has a flat response characteristic (repeater deviation is constant for a given signal level over the frequency range of 6 ~ 250 Hz). Injecting too high a voltage here causes over-deviation of CTCSS or DCS, degrading performance. Use shielded cable to connect to this pin, connecting the shield to GND. FCC ID: K66VXR-9000U Operating Manual 6/13 Vertex Standard Co., Ltd. Pin 9: TX ATT This output is intended for controlling an external coaxial switching relay. It is an open collector output which can sink approx. 10 mA when active. This signal only switches if the repeater has been programmed Pin 11: DISC OUT [Analog Output] ( Wide-Band: 0 ~ 3,000 Hz) Received signals with full system deviation produce 1 V p-p audio at this pin. The output impedance is 600 ., and is extracted before the de-emphasis and squelch circuitry. Use shielded cable to connect to this pin, and connect the shield to GND. Pin 13: GND Chassis ground for all logic levels and power supply return. Pin 14: GND Chassis ground for all logic levels and power supply return. Pin 15: RSSI [Analog Output] A DC voltage proportional to the strength of the signal currently being received (Receiver Signal Strength Indicator) is provided on this pin. This low impedance output is generated by the receiver IF sub-system and buffered by an internal op-amp. Typical voltages are graphed as follows: Pin 17: COAX. SW [Logic Output (Active Low)] This output is intended for controlling an external coaxial switching relay. It is an open collector output which can sink approx. 10 mA when active. This signal only switches if the repeater has b…

Operational Description

FCC ID: K66VXR-9000U Circuit Description 1/4 Vertex Standard Co., Ltd. VXR-9000U C IRCUIT D ESCRIPTION R ECEIVE S IGNAL P ATH Incoming RF from the RX antenna jack is delivered to the RX Unit and passes through the protection diode D1001 and a varactor-tuned band pass filter consisting of coils L1003 and L1004, capacitors C1015, C1018, C1021, C1032, and C1044, and diodes D1003 and D1004. Signals are then applied to the RF amplifier, Q1009. The amplified RF signal is applied through a varactor-tuned band pass filter consisting of coils L1010 and L1011, capacitors C1079, C1092, C1082, C1095 and C1075, and diodes D1007 and D1005 to the first mixer Q1018 along with the first local signal from the PLL circuit. The first local signal is generated between 376.65 MHz and 416.65 MHz by the RX VCO, which consists of FET Q1048 and varactor diodes D1018, D1019 according to the programmed receiving frequency; the local signal then passes through buffer amplifier Q1059 and first local amplifier Q1019 to the first mixer Q1018. The 73.35 MHz first IF signal is applied to monolithic crystal filters XF1001 and XF1002 which strip away unwanted mixer products, and the IF signal is applied to the first IF amplifiers Q1022. The amplified first IF signal is then delivered to the FM IF subsystem IC Q1028, which contains the second mixer, second local oscillator, limiter amplifier, noise amplifier, and FM detector. The second local oscillator signal, generated by the 72.895 MHz crystal X1002, produces the 455 kHz second IF signal when mixed with the first IF signal within Q1028. The second IF signal passes through ceramic filter CF1001 or CF1002 which strips away all but the desired signal, and then passes through the limiter amplifier within Q1028 to ceramic discriminator CD1001, which removes any amplitude variations in the 455 kHz IF signal before detection of speech. The detected audio passes through the low pass filter, consisting of R1199 and C1244, which rejects the 455 kHz IF component. The audio signal from the RX Unit is delivered to the CNTL Unit and passes through the audio amplifier Q1020 to the active high pass filter section of Q3020, which rejects the sub- audible frequency component. The filtered audio signal is delivered to electronic volume Q1056, which adjusts the audio sensitivity to compensate for audio level variations, then passes through audio amplifier Q1020, audio switch Q1040, attenuator consisting of R1233, and limiter amplifier Q1050, to the electronic volume control Q1056, where the maximum deviation is set. The audio signal subsequently passes through the 3-section active low pass filter consisting of Q1017-1/-2/-3 and audio amplifier Q1001 to providing the repeater transmit audio. A portion of the audio signal from the active high pass filter section of Q4024 is de- emphasized by R**** and C****, providing a flat audio response. The filtered audio then passes through the active band pass filter Q3021 and audio mute gate Q3015 to audio power amplifier Q1057, providing up to 2 Watts of audio power to the 8Ω loudspeaker. A portion of the audio signal from the audio amplifier Q1020 passes through the 3-section active low pass filter Q1025 and the low pass filtering section of Q3020 to separate the CTCSS tones from the received audio signal. Sub-Audible Signaling (Decoder) A portion of the audio signal from the audio amplifier Q1020 passes through the 3-section active low pass filter Q1025 and the low pass filtering section of Q3020 to separate the CTCSS tones from the received audio signal. The CTCSS tones are sent to the CTCSS FCC ID: K66VXR-9000U Circuit Description 2/4 Vertex Standard Co., Ltd. decoder section of Q3020. When a CTCSS tone is received, the CTCSS information is delivered to pin 20 of the Main CPU Q3014 from pin 4 and 8 of Q3020, which compares the CTCSS tone with the programmed tone. Another portion of the audio signal amplified by Q1020 passes through the 3-section active low pass filter Q3044 to separate the DCS codes from the received audio signal. The low pass filtered signal passes through the phase detector Q3044 to pin 39 of the Main CPU Q3014. When a DCS code is received, the Main CPU Q3014 compares the DCS code with the programmed code. If the received CTCSS tone or DCS code matches the programmed tone or code, pin 4 of the Main CPU Q3014 goes low, turning on the squelch switch Q3015 and passing the received audio signal to the audio power amplifier Q1057. Squelch Control The squelch circuit consists of noise amplifier Q1033 and noise detector D1015 on the RX Unit, and control circuitry within main microprocessor Q3014 on the CNTL Unit. When no carrier is received, noise at the output of the audio detector stage of Q1028 is amplified by Q1033, and then rectified by D1015 to provide a DC control voltage for the squelch switch. The resulting DC voltage is delivered to pin 23 of J1005. The DC voltage from the RX Unit is delivered to the A-D analog input port (pin 51) of the Main CPU Q3014 on the CNTL Unit, which compares the squelch threshold level to that which is memorized in EEPROM Q3006 or set by the front panel SQL control RX PLL and VCO Circuits The receiver’s PLL circuitry consists of PLL subsystem IC Q1052 on the MAIN Unit, which contains a reference oscillator/divider, serial-to-parallel data latch, programmable divider, phase comparator and a swallow counter. Stability is obtained by a regulated 5 VDC supply via Q1062 and temperature compensated 14.4 MHz crystal oscillator X1003. The RX VCO, consisting of FET Q1048 and varactor diodes D1018, D1019, oscillates between 376.65 MHz and 416.65 MHz according to the programmed receiving frequency. The RX VCO output passes through buffer amplifier Q1059 and first local amplifier Q1019 to the first mixer Q1018, as described previously. A portion of the RX VCO output is applied to the prescaler/swallow counter section in the PLL IC, Q1052. There the RX VCO signal is divided by 64 or 65, according to a control si…

FCC ID: K66VXR-9000U Alignment 1/4 Vertex Standard Co., Ltd. VXR-9000U Alignment The VXR-9000 has been carefully aligned at the factory for the specified performance across the frequency range specified for each version. Realignment should therefore not be necessary except in the event of a component failure, or alteration of version. All component replacement and service should be performed only by an authorized VERTEX STANDSRD representative, or the warranty policy may be voided. The following procedures cover the sometimes critical and tedious adjustments that are not normally required once the transceiver has left the factory. However, if damage occurs and some parts are replaced, realignment may be required. If a sudden problem occurs during normal operation, it is likely due to component failure; realignment should not be done until after the faulty component has been replaced. We recommend that servicing be performed only by authorized VERTEX STANDARD service technicians who are experienced with the circuitry and fully equipped for repair and alignment. Therefore, if a fault is suspected, contact the dealer from whom the transceiver was purchased for instructions regarding repair. Authorized VERTEX STANDARD service technicians realign all circuits and make complete performance checks to ensure compliance with factory specifications after replacing any faulty components. Those who do undertake any of the following alignments are cautioned to proceed at their own risk. Problems caused by unauthorized attempts at realignment are not covered by the warranty policy. Also, VERTEX STANDARD must reserve the right to change circuits and alignment procedures in the interest of improved performance, without notifying owners. Under no circumstances should any alignment be attempted unless the normal function and operation of the transceiver are clearly understood, the cause of the malfunction has been clearly pinpointed and any faulty components replaced, and the need for realignment determined to be absolutely necessary. The following test equipment (and thorough familiarity with its correct use) is necessary for complete realignment. Correction of problems caused by misalignment resulting from use of improper test equipment is not covered under the warranty policy. While most steps do not require all of the equipment listed, the interactions of some adjustments may require that more complex adjustments be performed afterwards. Do not attempt to perform only a single step unless it is clearly isolated electrically from all other steps. Have all test equipment ready before beginning, and follow all of the steps in a section in the order presented. Required Test Equipment RF signal generator: calibrated output level at 1000 MHz (0 dBμ =1.0 μV - closed circuit) Deviation Meter (linear detector) AF Millivoltmeter SINAD Meter Inline Wattmeter with 5% accuracy at 1000 MHz Regulated DC Power Supply: adjustable from 10 to 17 VDC, 15A 50 Ω Non-reactive Dummy Load: 100W at 1000 MHz Frequency Counter: >0.1-ppm accuracy at 1000 MHz AF Signal Generator DC Voltmeter: high impedance RF Sampling Coupler (attenuation pad) AF Dummy Load: 4 Ω , 20W Oscilloscope Spectrum Analyzer IBM PC/compatible computer w/ VERTEX STANDARD VPL-1 programming cable and CE-49 channel programming editor. FCC ID: K66VXR-9000U Alignment 2/4 Vertex Standard Co., Ltd. 50-Ω RF Signal Dummy load Generator RF Sampling Inline Wattmater Coupler Transceiver Deviation Meter VPL-1 Frequeuncy Power Supply Counter IBM PC 13.8V DC COM port Alignment Preparation & Precautions A dummy load and inline wattmeter must be connected to the main antenna jack in all procedures that call for transmission, except where specified otherwise. Correct alignment is not possible with an antenna. After completing one step, read the following step to determine whether the same test equipment will be required. If not, remove the test equipment (except dummy load and wattmeter, if connected) before proceeding. Correct alignment requires that the ambient temperature be the same as that of the transceiver and test equipment, and that this temperature be held constant between 20 and 30 °C (68 and 86 °F). When the transceiver is brought into the shop from hot or cold air it should be allowed some time for thermal equalization with the environment before alignment. If possible, alignments should be made with oscillator shields and circuit boards firmly affixed in place. Also, the test equipment must be thoroughly warmed up before beginning. Before beginning, connect the transceiver and PC using the VPL-1 programming cable as described in the EEPROM Programming chapter, and downloads the EEPROM data from the transceiver to the computer. Store this data in a disk file so that it can be saved and retrieved later. Using the table below, program the channel, CTCSS, and DCS alignment settings for your transceiver version. Upload this file to the transceiver. Note: Signal levels in dB referred to in this procedure are based on 0 dBm = 0.5 μV (closed circuit). Caution: Do not connect this line to ground, and be certain that the speaker has adequate capability to handle the audio output from the radio. Because of the bridge audio amplifier circuit used in the radio, it is necessary to construct and use a simple audio load test adapter as shown in the schematic diagram above, when conducting receiver alignment steps. 3.5 φ PLUG Attenuated Test Output (1/2) 2 Ω  10 W Ground + 470 μF 2 Ω 10 W AF Test Adapter Schematic FCC ID: K66VXR-9000U Alignment 3/4 Vertex Standard Co., Ltd.
