Re: Certification for Continental Transmitter FCC ID: M3N30777500 IC: 7812A-30777500 REQUEST FOR CONFIDENTIALITY Pursuant to FCC 47 CRF 0.457(d) and 0.459 and IC RSP-100, Section 10, Continental requests that a part of the subject application be held confidential. Continental has spent substantial effort in developing this product and it is one of the first of its kind in industry. Having the subject information easily available to "competition" would negate the advantage they have achieved by developing this product. Not protecting the details of the design will result in financial hardship. The device operates under 47 CFR 15.231(e) reduced field strength limits in order to send data. The client is requesting confidentiality of the internal photos exhibit for this transmitter because the circuitry is potted in epoxy and removal of the epoxy would destroy the components. Attached are external photos showing the epoxy, internal photos of the device before epoxy is installed and the confidentiality request letter for this device. Will the FCC allow confidentiality of the internal photos for this device? Please let me know if you need any other information to respond to this inquiry. Thanks for your time. Rich Fabina ACB Reviewing Engineer FCC response on 04/30/2012 You epoxy attestation statement is acceptable, however, the cover letter for requesting confidentiality must be included in this request. General Description The Tire Pressure Monitoring System consists of a TPM Sensor Unit (Wheel Unit) and an RF Receiver Unit and is used to monitor a vehicle's tire pressure while driving. The TPM sensor includes an integrated pressure, temperature and acceleration sensor and an RF transmitter. The TPM sensor, mounted to the valve stem inside tire, periodically measures the actual tire pressure. The transmitter is used to transmit the pressure information to the receiver. Power Supply The TPM sensor is powered by a single 3V CR2450 lithium battery.
Consumer Use Modes Service Mode Mode of Operation Explanation Frequency of Transmission X Park Mode All of the time other than other modes No transmission X Drive Mode TPM sensor in normal operation when vehicle motion is detected 10 words every 32 seconds X Learn Mode TPM sensor transmits up to 35 words after LF tool activation Up to 35 words in less than 5 NOTES: 1.‐ The service mode is used only to learn the identifier of the TPM sensor in the vehicle TPM system. This mode will only be used at the tire dealers/service centers only. 2.‐ The power level for all transmissions is the same.
