The product presented to us is a notebook PC with built in RF category Mobile Mimo DTS co-located with RF category Portable WCDMA PCB. Obviously the PCB will require SAR testing while the DTS would be satisfied by MPE evaluation. Both PCB and DTS antenna are within 20cm of each other. My question is (1.) can TCB do this evaluation, or should it be performed by FCC? And (2.) is it reasonable during SAR evaluation to simply turn on/off the DTS when highest peak SAR value is found for PCB to detirmine the effect [similar to what is already done for co-located Bluetooth on cellphones]? That’s why microwave oven is operating in this frequency band. The manufacturer whose product is working in this frequency band is obligatory to prove the harmfulness of his product. In this document, we try to prove the safety of radiation harmfulness to the human body for our product. The limit for Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) specified in FCC 1.1310 is followed. The Gain of the antenna used in this product is measured in a Fully Anechoic Chamber (FAC), and the maximum total power input to the antenna is measured. Through the Friis transmission formula and the maximum gain of the antenna, we can calculate the distance, away from the product, where the limit of MPE is reached. 2 Classification The antenna of the product, under normal use condition, is at least 20cm away from the body of the user. Warning statement for keeping 20cm separation distance and the prohibition of operating next to a person has been printed on the user’s manual. So, this product is classified as the Fixed use Device 3 RF Exposure Limit According to FCC 1.1310: The criteria listed in the following table shall be used to evaluate the environmental impact of human exposure to radio-frequency (RF) radiation as specified in 1.1307(b). This setup provided a 50ohm/50mH coupling impedance for the measuring equipment. The auxiliary equipment will place in secondary LISN. 10.3.3 Both sides (Line and Neutral) of AC line are checked for maximum conducted interference. In order to find the maximum emission, the relative positions of equipment and all of the interface cables must be changed according to ANSI C63.4/2003 on conducted measurement. 10.3.4 The bandwidth of the field strength meter (R & S Test Receiver ESCS 30) is set at 9kHz. 10.4 Test Result PASS.
