The Family Radio Service is provided for by the FCC and is totally license free. For the first time business and the general public can use the quiet UHF FM band for personal communications at no charge. The F-10 uses maximum allowable power for range up to 2 miles. Use for fishing, hunting, picnics, biking, business, or any other activity where communications are needed for convenience or safety. The model F-10 operates on 14 channels to provide the best in quiet and private communication. Also this radio offers power save, and auto-squelch. WARNING Your wireless hand-held portable transceiver contains a low power transmitter. When the Push-to-Talk (PTT) button is pressed it sends out radio frequency (RF) signals. The device is authorized to operate at a duty factor not to exceed 50%. In August 1996, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted RF exposure guidelines with safety levels for hand-held wireless devices. T o maintain compliance with the FCC' s RF exposure guidelines, this transmitter and its antenna must maintain a separation distance of least 2 inches (5 centimeters) from your face. Speak in a normal voice, with the antenna pointed up and away from the face at the required separation distance. The belt clip is for storage purposes only. DO NOT TRANSMIT WHILE USING THE BELT CLIP. To transmit, hold the device away from your body and ensure the antenna is at least 2 inches (5 centimeters) from your body when transmitting. 4 TIPS FOR GETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR F-10 Due to the band of operation (462/467 MHz) the F-10 provides communications that are virtually free of atmospheric interference (skip) that is common on lower frequency bands. Along with this and an antenna system that is very efficient as compared to other unlicensed radio bands, communications range is surprisingly good. Many times the limits to maximum possible range are environmental factors such as blockage caused by trees, buildings, hills, or other obstructions. If you find communication is not possible, many times this can be overcome by moving only a few feet to a new location. Range may be reduced while operating in a vehicle or from inside to outside a metal building. Battery condition also affects range. The F-10 operates best on alkaline batteries. This unit is a precision piece of electronic equipment that should not be exposed to water or handled carelessly. Normal care should result in years of trouble free operation. Do not leave batteries installed over a long period of time as leakage may occur that can destroy the radio. Always save your receipt, as it is required for warranty consideration. . PREPARATION BATTERIES F-10 radios operate with 3 AAA Alkaline, Ni-Cad (nickel cadmium) or Ni-MH (nickel metal hydride) batteries (optional). Ni-Cad batteries provide about 6 hours of use. Alkaline batteries will provide about 18 hours of use and Ni-MH batteries will provide about 13 hours of use. If the F-10 is supplied with Ni-Cad batteries and a wall charger, Ni-Cad batteries must be charged prior to use. Charge at least 10 hours with the standard charger. If you are using Ni-MH batteries charge at least 24 hours. DO NOT attempt to charge any type of Alkaline batteries in this radio. To Install Batteries: Hold the radio face down. Press the latch so it swings away from the cover. 1. Lift the battery cover slightly. Gently slide the cover off the unit. 2. Insert 3 AAA batteries observing the proper polarity. 3. Replace the battery cover over the batteries and fasten with the latch. Low Battery Indicator: The battery icon in the lower left of the display will flash when the batteries are in need of charging. Instructions for optional charger Install NI-Cad (nickel cadmium) batteries observing their polarity. Plug the 18-??? charger into any 110/115 V wall socket. Plug the cord into the jack on the SIDE of the radio under the rubber plug marked “ MIC/CHG ”. Charge the batteries for at least 10 hours. DO NOT attempt to charge any type of Alkaline batteries in this radio. 5 QUICK USE INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Install fresh alkaline or fully charged Ni-Cad or Ni-MH batteries. 2. Turn the unit on by turning the ON/OFF/VOLUME clockw ise until a click is heard. 3. Use the ON/OFF/VOLUME control to adjust the volume. Operational Description

Alignment instructions WARNING Any repairs or adjustments should be made under the supervision of aqualified radio-telephone technician. TRANSMITTER 1. Power Supply Voltage The Power supply voltage should be set for 4.5 VDC measured at the radio during transmit. Periodically check the power supply voltage during the alignment procedure. 2. Frequency Setting A. Connect a frequency counter or Communications Service Monitor to the antenna connector through an RF power attenuator (5 watt minimum rating, 20 dB minimum attenuation). B. Depress the PTT switch. C. Adjust the CTX1 trimmer capacitor such that the output frequency is equal to the channel frequency with a maximum error of +/- 200 Hz. D. Release the PTT switch. 3. Output Power Alignment. A. Set the power supply voltage for 4.5 VDC. B. Connect a Communications Service Monitor or a watt meter and dummy load to the antenna connector. C. Depress the PTT switch. D. To be convinced for 0.5 Watt(50 ohm load) output power with a maximum error of +/- 0.15 Watts. E. Release the PTT switch. 4. Deviation Adjustment. A. Connect an audio generator . The audio frequency should be set at 1 KHz. B. Connect an FM deviation meter or Communications Service Monitor to the antenna connector through an RF power attenuator (5 watt minimum rating, 20 dB minimum attenuation). Set the monitor to read peak deviation. C. Depress the PTT switch. D. Adjust SV3 for +/- 2.5KHz maximum deviation. E. Release the PTT switch.

ENGINEERING STATEMENT For Type Certification of Midland Consumer Radio Model No: F-10 FCC ID: MMAF10 I am an Electronics Engineer, a principal in the firm of Hyak Laboratories, Inc., Springfield, Virginia. My education and experience are a matter of record with the Federal Communications Commission. Hyak Laboratories, Inc. has been authorized by Midland Consumer Radio to make type certification measurements on the model F-10 transceiver. These tests made by me or under my supervision in our Springfield laboratory. Test data and documentation required by the FCC for Type Certification are included in this report. The data verifies that the above mentioned transceiver meets FCC requirements and Type Certification is requested. ______________________________ Rowland S. Johnson Dated: May 3, 2001 A. INTRODUCTION The following data are submitted in connection with this request for type certification of the model F-10 transceiver in accordance with Part 2, Subpart J of the FCC Rules. The model F-10 is a portable, battery operated, UHF, frequency modulated transceiver intended for 12.5 kHz channel family radio service applications in the 462.5625-467.7125 MHz band. It operates from a nominal 4.5 Vdc battery supply. MFR rated output power is 0.5 watts ERP(d) B. GENERAL INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR TYPE CERTIFICATION (Paragraph 2.983 of the Rules) 1. Name of applicant: Midland Consumer Radio 2. Identification of equipment: FCC ID: MMAF10 a. The equipment identification label is submitted as a separate exhibit. b. Photographs of the equipment are submitted as a separate exhibit. 3. Quantity production is planned. 4. Technical description: a. 11k0F3E emission b. Frequency range: 462.5625 - 467.7125 MHz. c. Operating power of transmitter is fixed at the factory at less than 0.5 W ERP(d) d. Maximum power permitted is 0.5 watts, and the model F-10 fully complied with that power limitation. e. The dc voltage and dc currents at final amplifier: Collector voltage: 4.4 Vdc Collector current: 0.69 A f. Function of each active semiconductor device is submitted as exhibit 1. g. Complete schematic diagram is submitted as a separate exhibit. h. A draft instruction manual is submitted as a separate exhibit. i. The transmitter tune-up procedure is submitted as a separate exhibit. 2 B. GENERAL INFORMATION (continued) j. A description of circuits for stabilizing frequency is included in exhibit 2. k. A description of circuits and devices employed for suppression of spurious radiation and for limiting modulation is included in exhibit 3. l. Not applicable. 5. Data for 2.985 through 2.997 follow this section. C. RF_Power_Output (Paragraph 2.985(a) of the Rules) The model F-10 has a permanently attached built-in antenna without provisions for a coaxial connector. Therefore RF power was determined by substitution. TABLE 1 Operating Freq., MHz Power watts into a dipole antenna 462.5625 0.49 D. MODULATION CHARACTERISTICS 1. A curve showing frequency response of the transmitter is shown in Figure 1. Reference level was audio signal output from a Boonton 8220 modulation meter with one kHz deviation. Audio output was measured with an Audio Precision System One integrated test system. 2. Modulation limiting curves are shown in Figure 2, using a Boonton 8220 modulation meter. Signal level was established with a Audio Precision System One integrated test system. The curves show compliance with paragraphs 2.987(b). 3. Figure 3 is a graph of the post-limiter low pass filter which provides a roll-off of 60Logf/3 dB where f is audio frequency in kHz. Measurements were made following EIA RS-152B with an Audio Precision System One integrated test system on the Boonton 8220 modulation meter audio output. 3 4. Occupied_Bandwidth (Paragraphs 2.989(c) of the Rules) Figure 4 is a plot of the sideband envelope of the transmitter output taken with a Tektronix 494P spectrum analyzer. Modulation corresponded to conditions of 2.989(c)(1) and consisted of 2500 Hz tone at an input level 16 dB greater than that necessary to produce 50% modulation at 2806 Hz, the frequency of maximum response. Therefore, no antenna terminal conducted measurements were made. F. DESCRIPTION OF RADIATED SPURIOUS MEASUREMENT FACILITIES A description of the Hyak Laboratories’ radiation test facility is a matter of record with the FCC. The facility was accepted for radiation measurements from 25 to 1000 MHz on October 1, 1976 and is currently listed as an accepted site. G. MEASUREMENTS OF SPURIOUS RADIATION Spurious emissions from the model F-10 were made by substitution with a Tektronix 494P spectrum analyzer using Singer DM-105 for the measurements to 1 GHz, and EMCO 3115 horn to 4.5 GHz.
