You must be licensed prior to operating on channels 1 - 7 or 15 - 22, which comprise the GMRS channels of the GXT800/850 Series. Serious penalties could result for unlicensed use of GMRS channels, in violation of FCC rules, as stipulated in the Communications Act's Sections 501 and 502 (amended). You will be issued a call sign by the FCC which should be used for station identification when operating the radio on GMRS channels. You should also cooperate by engaging in permissible transmissions only, avoiding channel interference with other GMRS users, and being prudent with the length of their transmission time. KEY LOCK ICON – Indicates KEY LOCK mode is on. 3. VOX ICON– Indicates when VOX mode is active. 4. NOAA WEATHER (WX) BAND ICON– Indicates when the radio is in Weather Band mode. 5. CHANNEL NUMBER– Changes from 1~22 on GMRS/FRS band (1~10 on WX band). 6. PRIVACY CODE– Indicates Privacy Code selected by user (oF~38/oF~104). 7. GROUP MODE ICON– Indicates when the Group Mode is on. 8. VIBRATE-ALERT ICON– Indicates when the Vibrate-Alert feature is on. 9. RECEIVE (RX) ICON– Indicates radio is receiving a transmission. 10. TRANSMIT (TX) ICON– Indicates radio is transmitting a signal. 11. TRANSMIT POWER LEVEL ICON– Indicates TX Power setting (H/M/L) 12. PRIVACY CODE ICON– Indicates Privacy Code setting (CTCSS/DCS). 13. POWER/VOLUME KNOB– Turn clock- wise to turn the power on and increase the volume level. Turn counter-clockwise to decrease the volume level and turn the power off. 14. PTT Button– Press and hold to transmit voice communication. 15. CALL/LOCK Button– Press to send a CALL Alert signal. Press and hold to turn KEY LOCK on/off. 16. MENU Button– Press to access Menu mode. Press and hold to go to WX Band Receiver mode. 17. SPEAKER– Built-in speaker. 18. ANTENNA. 19. EXTERNAL SPEAKER/MIC JACK. 20. RECOMMENDED TEST EQUIPMENT 1.1 HP8920A,B Radio Communication Tester or equivalent with Spectrum Analyzer option. 1.2 Fluke 187 Digital Voltmeter or equivalent 1.3 HPE3615A Power Supply or equivalent 2. TEST PREPARATION 2.1 Connect a 6.0Vdc power supply to the positive battery terminal input point and the negative battery terminal input point (GND) into the negative terminal. 2.3 Connect the HP8920A,B RF Output port to the ANT point. 2.4 SPK (+) should be connected to the Audio In Hi and SPK (-) should be connected to the Audio In Lo of the HP8920B. 2.5 Set the unit at CH1 (462.5625MHz) 3. VOLTAGE REGULATOR TEST 3.1 MCU Regulator - Connect a voltmeter to TP9 (MCU REG) and measure the voltage. The value must be between TBD. 3.2 RX Regulator - Connect a voltmeter to TP10 (RX REG) and measure the voltage. The value must be between TBD. 3.3 TX Regulator - Connect a voltmeter to TP11 (TX REG) and measure the voltage. The value must be between TBD. 3.4 VCO Regulator - Connect a voltmeter to TP12 (VCO REG) and measure the voltage. The value must be between TBD. 3.5 IC Regulator - Connect a voltmeter to TP13 (IC REG) and measure the voltage. The value must be between TBD. 4. VCO ADJUSTMENT 4.1 Set the unit at CH1 and connect a digital voltmeter to VCO TP (R62 & C96 connect point). 4.2 Press and hold the PTT Button so the unit is in transmit mode. 4.3 Adjust L23 until the voltmeter reads 1.2 to 1.3Vdc (without VCO Plate). L23 is located under the shieldcan. Solder VCO Plate and let temperature stabilize. Recheck TX VCO at CH1, should be 1.0~1.3 Vdc 4.4 Release the PTT button so the unit will be in receive mode. 4.5 Observe the voltage at VCO TP, the voltage should be 0.6~2.5Vdc. 4.6 Set the unit at CH14. 4.7 Press and hold the PTT button so the unit is in transmit mode. 4.8 Observe the voltage at VCO TP, the voltage should be 1.0~2.5Vdc.
