SX4e GSM 19005USERMANUAL Safety Information - continued Driving Check the laws and regulations on the use of cellular products in the areas where you drive. Some jurisdictions prohibit your using a cellular device while driving a vehicle. Even if your jurisdiction does not have such a law, we strongly suggest that, for safety reasons, the driver use extreme caution when operating the cellular device while the vehicle is in motion. Always obey the law. Electronic Devices Most modern electronic equipment is shielded from RF energy. However, RF energy from cellular devices may affect inadequately shielded electronic equipment. RF energy may affect improperly installed or inadequately shielded electronic operating and entertainment systems in motor vehicles. Check with the manufacturer or its representative to determine if these systems are adequately shielded from external RF energy. You should also check with the manufacturer of any equipment that has been added to your vehicle. Consult the manufacturer of any personal medical devices(such as pacemakers, hearing aids, etc.)to determine if they are adequately shielded from external RF energy. Turn your Phonecell FWT OFF in health care facilities when any regulations posted in the areas instruct you to do so. Hospitals or health care facilities may be using equipment that could be sensitive to external RF energy. Aircraft Turn OFF your Phonecell before boarding any aircraft. •• Use it on the ground only with crew permission. •• Do not use it in the air. To prevent possible interference with aircraft systems, U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)regulations require you to have permission from a crew member to use your cellular phone (or any other cellular product) while the plane is on the ground. To prevent interference with aircraft systems, FCC regulations prohibit using your cellular FWT while the plane is in the air. Children Do not allow children to play with your Phonecell to prevent damage to the unit. Blasting Areas Construction crews often use remote control RF devices to set off explosives. Therefore, to avoid interfering with blasting operations, turn your Phonecell OFF when in a "blasting area" or in areas posted: "Turn off two-way radio." Antenna Care and Replacement Do not use the FWT with a damaged antenna. If a damaged antenna comes into contact with the skin, a minor burn may result. Have your antenna replaced by a qualified technician immediately. Use only a manufacturer-approved antenna. Unauthorized antennas, modifications, or attachments could damage the FWT (Fixed Wireless Terminal) and will void the user's authority to operate the equipment.

SX4e GSM 19004USERMANUAL Safety Information Your Phonecell SX4eFWT(Fixed Wireless Terminal) functions as both a radio transmitter and receiver. When it is ON, the FWT receives and sends out radio frequency (RF)energy. The SX4e GSM 1900operates between 1850 MHz and 1990 MHz. It employs the commonly used phase/frequency modu- lation techniques. When you use your Phonecell SX4e, the cellular system handling your call controls the power level at which your unit transmits. Nominal power for the GSM 1900 unit is 1 watt. Exposure to RF(Radio Frequency) Energy In 1991, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and in 1992, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), updated the 1982 ANSI Standard for safety levels with respect to human exposure to RF energy. After reviewing the available body of research, more than 120 scientists, engineers and physicians from universities, government health agencies and industry developed this updated Standard. In March, 1993, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) proposed the adoption of this updated Standard. The design of your Telular Phonecell SX4eFWT(Fixed Wireless Terminal) complies with the requirements of EN 55022, 47 CFR Part 15, Class B, and ICES-003 for con- ducted and radiated emissions. Of course, if you want to limit RF exposure even fur- ther than the updated ANSI Standard, you may choose to control the duration of your calls and operate your phone in the most power-efficient manner. Safe Operation Requirement Do not operate your Phonecell when any person is within 8 inches (20 cm) of the antenna. Protective Earth (Safety Ground) Terminal A protective earth (safety ground) terminal (screw) marked with the protective earth symbol is provided on the back of the SX4 Phonecell unit. This terminal must have a permanent connection to a good earth ground (i.e. a cold water pipe) by means of an 18 gauge or heavier insulated wire. The wire insulation should be green with a yellow stripe to indicate that this is a protective earth (safety ground) connection. WARNING:The protective earth is to be installed by a qualified electrician. Temperature Environment Operating Temperature :: From -10°C (14°F) to +50°C (122°F); Up to 95% relative humidity (non-condensing) Storage Temperature: From -20°C (-4°F) to +60°C (140°F); Up to 95% relative humidity (non-condensing) WARNING! Your Phonecell must be placed or mounted on a flat surface to allow proper ventilation. Do not block the air vents or the space beneath your Phonecell as this could cause the unit to overheat and fail. ! IMPORTANT! For measurement of emissions above 1 GHz an absorber lined room was used, which is accepted in ANSI C63.4 in this frequency range. The ETSI ETR 027 substitution method was used to measure the radiated peak power of the transmitter. The calibrated Signal generator, cable and antenna were used to set up a field of 10dBm eirp at 3m as follows; R & S Antenna item 904 gain = 8.3 dBi (= 6.15dB gain over a dipole) Cables 128 + 129 loss = 5.4 dB Signal Generator item 35 output = 7.1 dBm The received level of the reference field was noted. Using the Spectrum analyser (item 69) with RBW and VBW set to 1 MHz and maximum hold. With the EUT replacing the substitution antenna the increase in the received level was recorded using the maximum hold facility. Andy, we will await the amended report to continue the review of the application. I have received a clarification from the reviewing engineer regarding his original question #2. He did have a typographical error in his later portion of the request. the request should have read as follows: > 2. A video filter (i.e., VBW < RBW) was used to demonstrate band edge > compliance. FCC policy has always required that constant envelope > modulation schemes (such as GMSK, as used by GSM devices like the EUT)must > use peak detection (i.e., RBW < VBW). This applies both to spurious > emissions tests and output power tests. Both of these must be re-measured > using a RBW < VBW, and new data submitted. It appears as though you may have submitted a report that has not been updated. I could not find measurement plots in the report that used the stated 1MHz RBW and 1MHz VBW as stated in the text from you on September 28th. All plots seem to show RBW of 10kHz and VBW of 1kHz, thus making the measurements video filtered (or video averaged), not peak measurements. Please let me know if I am in error.
