To fold an d unfold m aster key: – Press the release button Þ fig.29 -arrow-. Your Audi comes with two master keys and one emergency key Þ fig.28 and a key tag . The keys fit all locks on the vehicle. All keys can be inserted into the locks either way. Master key with remote control A wide range of features can be activated with the master key. Emergency key The emergency key is only for temporary use if the vehicle key should be lost or misplaced Þ . Key tag The tag contai ns the key number that is needed to obtain replace- ment keys. Note • For your protection against theft: keep the key tag in a safe place. Do not keep it in the vehicle. If you sell the vehicle, give the buyer this key tag. • If you open the driver’s door with the key left in the ignition lock, a chime will sound. This is your reminder to remove the key and lock the door. Key replacement For security reasons, replacement keys are only avail- able from Audi dealers. Please note the f ollowing if you need a replacement key: – Go to your authorized Audi dealer. – Give your a uthorized dealer the key information. If you lose a key, contact your authorized Audi dealer immediately to have the lost key disabled. Be sure to bring all your keys and the key tag with you. Your authorized Audi dealer must have the key number in order to replace your lost key. The key number can be found on the plastic tag Þ page 49, fig.28 , which you received with your vehicle. If you sell your vehicle, be sure to give the key tag to th e new owner. WARNING • Do not leave your vehicle unattended with the key in the igni- tion lock. Entry by unauthorized persons could endanger you or harm the vehicle. Always lock all doors and take the key. • Do not leave children unattended in the vehicle, especially with access to vehicle keys. Unsupervised use of the keys can result in starting of the engine or use of vehicle systems such as the power windows, etc. which could result in serious injury. However, you can change the batteries yourself. Each master key has a battery, located in the cover of the sender unit Þ fig.30. Battery removal –Unfold the key. – Insert a small screwdriver into the slot in the key case and twist it as illustrated to carefully pry the key section Þ fig. 30 off the key base . – Remove the cover from the key base Þ fig. 31 (arrow). Battery installation– Install the new battery. – Ensure that the side of the battery with the “+” symbol faces down. The picture on the inside of the lid shows the correct battery p osition. – Place the lid with the ins talled battery ov er the key base and press the two parts together. – Place the key base on the key stem and press both parts together. For the sake of the env ironment Dispose of dead batteries properly so as not to pollute the environ- ment. Many stores that sell batteries will accept dead batteries for recycling or proper disposal. Juli 20 02 12:05 12 Opening and closing 52 Note • The replacement battery must be identical in size and specifica- tion to the original battery provided. • If you cannot lock or unlock your vehicle after you have changed the battery, the system must be reset. For more information Þ page 55 . Electronic immobilizer h The immobilizer prevents your vehicle from being started by unauthor ized persons. Inside the key head there is a computer chip. This chip automatically deactivates the electronic immobilizer when you insert the key in the ignition lock. When you remove the key from the ignition lock, the electronic immobilizer is automatically activated once again. Note • Your engine can only be started using the factory-equipped key Þ page 25 . • You may not be able to start your vehicle if an ignition key of a different vehicle make is also located on your set of keys. Power locking systemGeneral description The power locking system locks or unlocks all doors, the rear lid and fuel filler flap simultaneously. The power locking system in your vehicle incorporates the following functions: • Central locking function • Remote control feature Þ page 53 . • Anti-Theft Alarm System Þ page 61 . You can lock and unlock the vehicle from outside either with the keys or the remote control transmitter inside the master key. Activating the power locking system locks or unlocks all doors, the rear lid and fuel filler flap simult aneously. The rear lid is also unlocked when you open the vehicle, however you must open it by hand.
