AirCard ™ 800 Series Wireless Network Card Quick Start Guide www.sierrawireless.com 2130707 Rev. 1.0 (June 2006) Your package contains the following:• AirCard wireless network card (modem) • Installation CD containing the AirCard connection manager softwareand Installation Guide • This Quick Start Guide This guide provides installation instructions for users of Windows ® XP and 2000. Please do not insert the AirCard modem into the PC Card slot before installing the software.Insert the CD in the CD-ROM drive. If a menu does not appear automatically, select Start > Run and enter d:\Setup. exe , where d is your CD-ROM drive letter. Select “notebook installation...”, and then select “notebook software installation (XP, 2000)”. This launches a program that guides you through installation of Watcher™ and the AirCard device drivers. Select Tools > Connections . Click the icon and select WWAN profile . From the Profile Name drop–down list, select the profile corresponding to your service provider, or enter a Profile Name and complete the fields. (If you do not know the APN, username, and/or password for your account, contact your service provider.) If you want Watcher to run automatically when Windows starts up:1. Select Options > General . 2. From the “Automatically run on Windows startup” drop–down list, select Ye s . The AirCard modem is now ready for use. To access the Help system in Watcher, select Help > Help topics . If you are using Microsoft ® Internet Explorer ® as your browser, you may need to configure it to use the AirCard modem. (See the Installation Guide on the CD.) Launch Watcher from the Start menu or double–click the Watcher icon on your desktop . If you are prompted to configure a profile, select Ye s and follow the account configuration instructions in step 6 below. Hold the AirCard modem face down. In terms of in band and out of band HSDPA is "quieter" so it makes sense for us to only preset the normal UMTS. Question #5: GSM/EDGE measurement: GSM and GPRS are 2 G and EDGE is 2.5G. Which modulation was actually tested ? What is multislot Class used ? The output power measurement for GSM, GPRS, and EDGE are required. SIERRA: Both GMSK and 8PSK were tested and reported in the document. The device is multislot class-12. The highest GMSK GSM/GPRS power is for one timeslot, increasing the number of timeslots the TX power is reduced accordingly. The output power for EDGE is the same for one to four timeslots. The relevant power levels were given in our test document. Question #6: As indicated in this test report, not all operational modes are tested. Please provide strong justification or explain the procedures were used during preliminary tests to identify the worse case. Please provide the description of tests been made during the preliminary tests to address band edge and occupied bandwidth. Evaluation of RF Exposure for AirCard 875 Wireless Modem as a Mobile Device In this application we also seek modular approval to the AirCard 875 wireless modem for use in mobile configuration. Based on the FCC OET Bulletin 65 Supplement C and 47 CFR §2.1091, we have concluded that the AirCard 875 will comply with the FCC rules on RF exposure for mobile devices if the antenna gain does not exceed 8 dBi in cellular band and 4 dBi in PCS band. The following analysis will demonstrate such compliance. The analysis will be done in two US bands. Operation in cellular band (824 – 849 MHz) The peak conducted output power of AirCard 875 in cellular band is 32 dBm. Take the worst case as an example, in which an antenna with 8 dBi gain is used. The resulted power density at a distance of 20 cm can be deducted as follows: EIRP = 32 + 8 = 40 dBm = 10000 mW Power Density = EIRP*DutyCycle/(4πR 2 ) = 10000*0.25/(4*π*20 2 ) = 0.50 mW/cm 2 where DutyCycle is 0.25 for GPRS operation (the worst case) and R is 20 cm. The MPE limit for General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure is shown in the FCC OET Bulletin 65 Supplement C and can be calculated as follows: MPE limit = 824/1500 = 0.55 mW/cm 2 As we can see the resulted power density is below the MPE limit, therefore AirCard 875 in cellular band is compliant with the FCC rules on RF exposure. Operation in PCS band (1875 – 1910 MHz) The peak conducted output power of AirCard 875 in PCS band is 29 dBm. Take the worst case as an example, in which an antenna with 4 dBi gain is used. The resulted ERP can be expressed as follows: ERP = 29 + 4 –2.15 = 30.85 dBm (1.22 W) < 3 W The FCC OET Bulletin 65 Supplement C states that mobile devices identified in 47 CFR §2.1091 that operate at frequencies above 1.5 GHz with an ERP of 3.0 watts or more are required to perform routine environmental evaluation for RF exposure prior to equipment authorization or use; otherwise, they are categorically excluded. As we can see this resulted ERP is below 3 W, therefore routine environmental evaluation for RF exposure prior to equipment authorization or use for AirCard 875 in PCS band is categorically excluded.
