This terminal was created to process credit or debit payments using magnetic stripe or smart cards. The ELITE 790 has an integrated thermal printer which operates at 6 LPS. The ELITE 790 terminal benefits from a modular hardware design, which allows multiple different applications to run on the terminal securely without affecting each other. Your retailer or installer will be able to give you the necessary information on all available applications. ELITE 790 Terminal 4 2- The Terminal The terminal case contains the following elements: β€’ The portable terminal and base. β€’ A cable that connects the terminal to a telephone line. β€’ A power pack that connects the terminal to a 115 or 230 volt supply (depending on the country) 3- The Terminal Connections There are two connectors on the back of the terminal. See section 7 for a picture. The blue jack is for a portable hands free kit. The black connector is suitable for a peripheral device like a barcode scanner, for which a specific software application is required. 4- The Base Connections Telephone Connection The telephone cable supplied with the Elite terminal must be connected to the port marked with the symbol . The other end of the cable (RJ11) must be connected to the telephone jack. Electrical Connection The jack from the power supply is plugged into the port marked with the symbol . The electrical plug is connected to a wall socket (115 or 220 volts, depending on the country). Only use the power pack provided with the terminal. Connection to an external peripheral device The serial port can be used to connect to devices such as cheque readers or PC’s. Operational Description

2.5 Battery charging procedure: 2.5.1 Charging the battery pack: 1. After unpacking it is important to provide an Initial charge. This conditio ning cycle is required for the battery pack to reach full capacity quickly. 2. Connect the AC power to the slow or fast charging base using the supplied power pack designed for the Elite 790. Place the Elite 790 terminal or standalone battery pack on the slow or fast charging base. The terminal will power-up and remain ON throughout the charging period. The green indictor at front of the SLOW or FAST charging base turns off once the battery pack is fully charged.  Make sure that you use the correct AC power adapter supplied with the El ite 790. Many adapters can appear similar and will plug into the Elite 790 base but will not work properly causing erratic behavior, poor charging or even damage to the unit . 2.5.2 Normal use  1. After a full charge the Elite 790 in normal usage is expected to provide 50 or more transactions before the terminal has to be returned to the base for charging. Slow printing and the low battery message on the display followed by the beep indicates the battery needs recharging. 2. The Elite 790 has a β€œr eserve” capability in the event that more transactions are occasionally needed. As long as the print time is acceptable the terminal will provide additional transactions beyond normal. The effect will be a continued slowdown of the printer as well as a longer recharge cycle. 3. Fast Charging Base is designed for quick and uninterrupted battery charging. If the Elite 790 terminal is removed from the fast charging base for more than 10 seconds, charging is reinitiated. When the battery is fully charged, the green LED at the front of the base will turn OFF. Do not use the fast charging base for frequent and short battery charging (between each transaction) – this may damage the battery and reduce its lifetime. To optimize the life of the battery pack, charge it with the fast charging base when the low battery message appears on the terminal, or when the printing speed is reduced. 3. Cleaning procedure: 1. Clean the outside of the Elite 790 with a soft cloth moistened with a mild detergent solution. 2. Never spray cleaning solution directly onto the Elite 790 as liquid may enter the unit. 3. Do not use Isopropyl Alcohol based cleaning products. 4. Technical specifications: 4.1 Network: The Elite 790 is equipped with an RF modem for exchanging data over one of the following networks: 1. Wavecom Wismo Quik Q2438 Module RF Circuitry Description: Frequency Tuning This product has factory preset frequency adjustment. There is no frequency field adjustment for this product. In the field, frequency is locked to the base station and controlled by the VCTCXO adjustments to offset any possible error. Limiting Power Each mobile is individually calibrated at the factory to ensure a minimum MAX power of 23.0dBm (Cellular and PCS CDMA) and MIN power of –50dBm by employing proper frequency and temperature compensation schemes for both the RX and TX automatic gain control (AGC) amplifier. Suppression of Spurious Radiations Spurious and harmonic suppression is achieved by proper design with various filters and sufficient use of metallic shields. Rigorous testing at the factory ensures continuous compliance. Frequency Stability A voltage controlled temperature compensated crystal oscillator (VCTCXO) is utilized as a frequency reference for all of the transceiver local oscillators. This crystal oscillator is specified to a frequency stability of +/- 2.5ppm. The synthesizer lock status is constantly monitored by the microprocessor and transmission is disabled whenever an out of lock condition is detected. The mobile is locked to the base station and makes necessary frequency adjustments on the VCTCXO to correct and frequency errors between the mobile and the base station. Limiting Modulation The audio input is sampled, digitally limited, and then filtered to an amplitude and frequency limit the signal applied to the modulator. The device supports IS-2000 for CDMA operation, and IS-98 for AMPS operation. The device has an operating temperature of –30 o C to +60 o C. The functions include a compandor, PLL lock detector, filtering of received data, audio signal filtering for signals.
