Safety Information Please take these safety precautions into consideration under the following conditions : Under normal circumstances, Reservation Mode is cancelled when a door or hatchback opens. Please verify that the opening of any door or hatchback cancels Reservation Mode. If any of the doors or hatchback are not monitored by CompuStar because of improper installation or a faulty dome light switch, do not use the CompuStar and take your vehicle immediately to the dealer for repair. Do not set Reservation Mode if the window(s) are open or if there is anyone inside the vehicle, this includes animals. Remote start installation in a manual transmission vehicle with a convertible top is not recommended. Page 4 I m p o r t a n t ! 1. Servicing the vehicle When servicing your automobile (i.e. changing the oil, washing your car), the CompuStar system should be in Valet Mode. There is a safety shutdown switch under the hood that deactivates the remote starter function if the hood is open. However, if the switch has been damaged or the switch has been installed improperly, the vehicle may start when the button is pressed for 2 seconds, even if the hood is open. 2. Loaning your vehicle to others Whenever you loan your vehicle to an individual who is not familiar with Compustar, you may want to put the vehicle in Valet mode. This will prevent the borrower from acci- dentally activating the CompuStar auto-security system. 3. Remote Learn Routine The Compustar system will allow up to three remotes to be programmed to one vehicle. Please perform the following procedure to add or reprogram additional remotes. Page 7 Auto-Start Function Press the button for 2 seconds to auto-start an automatic transmission engine. Remember, that an actual key in the ignition is required to drive the car. For manual transmission vehicles, please use reservation mode. Press the button for 2 seconds in order to turn off an auto-started car. The engine will run 15 or 25 minutes (25 or 45 min for diesel) depending on preset options at the time of installation, and then shut off. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Error Number (# of times the car chirps & parking lights flash) Error Reason Engine On Key On Door Open Trunk Open Brake On Hood Open Reservation Off (Manual Transmission Only) Diagnosing problems with Auto-Start If there is a problem in auto-starting your vehicle,the CompuStar system will do one of two things; if it fails for any of the reasons listed in the table below, it will flash the parkinglights three times then flash the error number. Otherwise, it will attempt to start the vehicle three times. If, after three times, the vehicle will not start or stay running, the CompuStar system will shut down. In either case, please see your istaller to resolve the situation. Key less Entry Alarm Mode Page 6 Step2 :Within a 7 second period after cycling the ignition for the 5 th time, Press the button for a 1/2 sec. The car parking lights will flash once to confirm that the transmitter has been programmed. You can continue programming additional remotes. The parking lights will flash two times when the programming mode has expired. To lock the vehicle, press the button for 0.5 seconds. To unlock the vehicle, press the button for 0.5 seconds. If the pressing of the lock/unlock buttons does not lock/unlock the doors, you will need to release the but- ton and try again, as the remote stops transmitting as soon as the LED stops flash- ing. If the button is pressed for 3.5 seconds, it will panic the system. To arm the vehicle, press the buttonuntil the LED on the remote stops flashing. To disarm the vehicle, press the buttonuntil the LED on the remote stops flashing. Test Procedure 1.1 Preliminary Testing for Reference Preliminary testing was performed in a KTL absorber-lined room to determine the emission characteristics of the EUT. The EUT was placed on the wooden table which has dimensions of 0.8 meters in height, 1 meter in length and 1.5 meters in width. Receiving antenna (Biconi-Log antenna : 30 to 1000 MHz or Horn Antenna : 1 to 18 GHz) was placed at the distance of 1 meter from the EUT. An attempt was made to maximize the emission level with the various configurations of the EUT. Sample Calculation The measured field strength was determined by averaging one complete pulse train including blanking interval because the pulse repetition time of the EUT(=51.0 ms) does not exceeds 0.1 seconds (15.35(c)). See graphs of page 12 . With the resolution bandwidth set at 100 kHz, the EUT produces a pulse spectrum on the spectrum analyzer because the bandwidth of the analyzer is greater than or equal to the PRF (=1428 Hz). Therefore, as mentioned in HP Application Note 150-2 (page 11), the pulse desensitization(a p ) equals zero and the display amplitude is essentially a peak level. .
