S potCell ™ 100 Quick Installation Guide www.spotwave.com Spotwave Wireless Inc. 3701 Carling Avenue, Ottawa ON K2H 8S2 Canada Tel: (613) 820-0023 Fax: (613) 828-1956 E-mail: [email protected] © 2001 Spotwave Wireless Inc. All rights reserved. Printed in Canada 4. Installation Set the switch on the bottom of the SCU to “1” (install). Connect the power supply to the SCU, then plug the adapter into the AC outlet. If required, more detailed information on installing SpotCell 100 can be found in the enclosed Installation Manual. 5. Installation: DDU In the location where the DDU is to be mounted, rotate the unit in a complete circle. The LED on the back will turn red or green during the rotation. 6. Installation: DDU Again rotate the DDU. When the LED turns green, stop the rotation. This is the direction the DDU must face when mounted. 9. Installation: SCU Mount the SCU from a wall or ceiling, close to the centre of the area requiring coverage. 2. Location The DDU can be mounted anywhere your cell phone works. This may be on a rooftop (typical rural set-up), on the side of a building, or inside a building (typical downtown set-up). The SCU will be mounted inside the building where your cell phone does not work. (The illustrations at the right depict typical installations.) To start the installation, place the DDU and SCU in the general areas where they are to be located. Do not physically mount them at this time. 3. Installation Connect the DDU and SCU with the cable provided. For quick installation of SpotCell 100: For your safety, beware of power lines and ensure that appropriate safety measures are maintained at all times during the installation of the SpotCell 100 equipment. Contact with high-voltage power lines could result in death or serious injury. 10. Final Checklist 1. Properly ground the DDU via the grounding bolt. 2. Ensure that there is a drip loop on the cable connecting to the DDU. 3. Firmly affix the cable to the building where it runs between the DDU and SCU. 8. Installation: SCU Move the switch on the bottom of the SCU to “2” (active). Hold the SCU in the location to be mounted. The LCD on the bottom of the SCU indicates coverage by the number of bars; more bars indicate better coverage. Back of SCU Back of DDU Cable connector Cable connector Grounding bolt Power supply connection: insert wires here while depressing blue tabs here Switch: install mode position LED DDU (outward-facing unit) SCU (indoor unit) Rotate 360°Rotate 360° 7. Technical Support The SpotCell 100 serial number must be available to authorize technical support and/or to establish a return authorization for defective units. The serial number is located on the back of the SCU and DDU as well as the box in which they were delivered. Additional support information may be obtained by accessing the SpotwaveWireless Inc. website at www.spotwave.com. To contact support by telephone, call your local Cellular provider, or if you are unable to contact your provider, contact Spotwave Wireless at 1-877-610-9586. Important Safety Information Wa r n i n g ! For your safety, beware of power lines and ensure appropriate safety measures are maintained at all times during the installation of the SpotCell equipment. If equipment not shipped with the SpotCell system is to be used during installation or mounting, follow all equipment manufacture’s instructions in proper use to ensure injury is avoided. The DDU unit of the SpotCell 100 emits approximately the same power as a cell phone. As with a cell phone antenna, avoid unneccessary contact with the front of the unit after installed. Mount in a location where people will not approach within one meter of the front of the unit. This manual outlines installation instructions and the appendix offers practical safety tips (see page 43 entitled ‘Safety Hints’). If you are not sure about a safe installation, do not attempt to install it yourself. Call a professional installer for help. ii SpotCell 100, Release 1.0 LIMITED WARRANTY AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: 1. What is Covered and for How Long? Spotwave Wireless Inc. Barry Quinlan From: "Ruby Dulmage" <[email protected]> To: "Barry Quinlan - Curtis-Straus" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2002 9:37 AM Sub ject: RE: Spotwave FCC ID: P3YSPOTCELL0002 Page 1 of 1 4/3/2002 Hi Barry: Here is our reply to your questions: 1. This application covers band "B" for the SCU and DDU. The DDU is identical for both band A &B, but was certified by FCC with band A data and therefore we have submitted band B data to document the performance of band B. The DDU will have the same FCC ID for both bands (P3YSPOTCELL0003 - approved March 7, 2002). Therefore, this application covers the SCU for Band B. The SCU for Band A was certified under FCC ID: P3YSPOTCELL0001 and approved March 6, 2002. 2. The latter is the case, the frequency stability is controlled by the input source and therefore not required which is why the data shows 0Hz drift. The 0C-40C is referenced to the indoor unit (SCU), the -30c to +50c text was omitted from the report, but is the outdoor unit requirement (DDU) and the result remains as stated at 0Hz. I trust the above will enable you to complete this application. Thanks, Ruby From: Curtis -Straus TCB To: Ruby Dulmage Sent: March 22, 2002 4:59 PM Subject: Spotwave FCC ID: P3YSPTCELL002 Hi Ruby, We have these issues following our review: 1. Please clarify what device (DDU or SCU) this application covers as the form 731 appears to have the RF powers levels listed for both devices but the equipment description states SCU. 2. 1. The frequency stability of this device is required to be maintained over the range of -30C to +50C and with voltage variations of 85% and 115%. See 2.1055 (a) and (d). The data provided in the test report only covers the range of 0C-40C and does not provide data for each 10C increment. Please provide data responsive to this requirement. Alternately, if frequency stability is wholly controlled by the input source (as it can be with an amplifier) then you could present the case that frequency stability testing is not applicable to this product. Best regards Barry C. Quinlan Certification Manager Curtis-Straus TCB

Spotwave Wireless Inc. 3701 Carling Avenue Ottawa ON K2H 8S2 Canada Tel: (613) 820-0023 Fax: (613) 828-1956 www.spotwave.com Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) Compliance Statement for the SpotCell 100 (800 MHz) Adaptive Repeater The SpotCell 100 (800 MHz) A/B equipment has been tested and the performance characterized in accordance with the MPE requirements of 47 CFR. The system is a low power adaptive repeater, having integral antennas built into the SCU and DDU modules. At the maximum operating frequency of 894 MHz the MPE limit for the General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure is 0.6mW/cm 2 . The SpotCell 100 (800MHz) complies with this limit at the following line of sight distances from the antenna element: DDU: 12 cm SCU: 0.4 cm The analysis is provided below. For the general uncontrolled population the Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) limit is given by F/1500 mW/cm 2 , where F is the operating frequency of the product, giving a limit of 0.6 mW/cm 2 The prediction methods provided are based on worst-case far-field calculations; S = EIRP/(4πR 2 ) Using this calculation, for the DDU S= 0.6 mW EIRP = 1000 mW R= 11.5 cm The User Manual, which also incorporates the Installation instructions includes a warning on page (i) of the document under the heading “Important Safety Information” . The warning instructs the installer to ensure the DDU is mounted in a location where people will not approach within 1m of the front of the unit. This distance provides additional safety margin for the product. For the SCU S=0.6 mW EIRP = 1mW R= 0.36 cm The integral radome on the SCU provides > 0.5cm physical separation from the antenna so that no warning statement is required for this module.
