AI108 AI108-1-R01 P/N: AI108.2.D - 3 - Limited Warranty AIRAYA CORP Limited Warranty: AIRAYA warrants all its products to be free of manufacturing defects in workmanship and materials, under normal use and service, for the applicable warranty term. All AIRAYA products carry a standard 90-day limited warranty from the date of purchase from AIRAYA or its Authorized Reseller. AIRAYA may, at its own discretion, repair or replace any product not operating as warranted with a similar or functionally equivalent product, during the applicable warranty term. The standard limited warranty can be upgraded to a two-year warranty by registering new products within 30 days of purchase from AIRAYA or its Authorized Reseller. Registration can be accomplished via the enclosed product registration card or online via the AIRAYA web site. Failure to register will not affect the standard limited warranty. The two-year warranty covers a product during the Life of that Product, which is defined as the period of time during which the product is an ‘Active’ AIRAYA product. A product is considered to be ‘Active’ while it is listed on the current AIRAYA price list. As new technologies emerge, older technologies become obsolete and AIRAYA will, at its discretion, replace an older product in its product line with one that incorporates these newer technologies. At that point, the obsolete product is discontinued and is no longer an ‘Active’ AIRAYA product. All products that are replaced become the property of AIRAYA. Replacement products may be either new or reconditioned. Any replaced or repaired product carries either a 30-day limited warranty or the remainder of the initial warranty, whichever is longer. AIRAYA is not responsible for any custom software or firmware, configuration information, or memory data of Customer contained in, stored on, or integrated with any products returned to AIRAYA pursuant to any warranty. Products returned to AIRAYA should have any customer-installed accessory or add-on components removed prior to returning the product for replacement. AIRAYA is not responsible for these items if they are returned with the product. Customers must contact AIRAYA for a Return Material Authorization number prior to returning any product to AIRAYA. Proof of purchase may be required. Any product returned to AIRAYA without a valid Return Material Authorization (RMA) number clearly marked on the outside of the package will be returned to customer at customer’s expense. Please note that the reference to using a maximum power out of 250mW (24dBm) + 6dBi antenna or 30dBm total, should be the guide for maximum power given any specific antenna. This means that with an output as measured at 10.9dBm the maximum gain antenna would be 19.1dBi. The 18dBi antenna meets this requirement. For a maximum power of 8.9dBm, the maximum antenna gain would be 21dBi. As mentioned above, your report section “Antenna Requirements” states 21dBi antenna. However, your summary of results and other documentation states 24Bi (3 dB higher than allowed). Please correct the report and/or all other documentation to be consistent about the maximum antenna(s) used and tested. Is the reference to ‘external antenna’ simply meaning that part of the system which includes the transmitter that is outside. And if so, are the antenna(s) internal to the outside box. On the other hand, does it mean something else? Please clarify antenna usage in all documentation to agree on the type, and purpose of this device as tested. Please provide evidence that the antenna(s) used with this device meet the definition of ‘integral’ as tested. The RF output level at the connector for the 24dBi is 8.9dBm, but the actual power delivered to the antenna is reduced by 3dB (using either an internal 3dB attenuator or via the use of a length of cable for external antennas with a loss of at least 3dB at 5.27GHz) to meet the FCC output power limitation. This statement can be found on the revised report page 5 of 18, Professional Installer guide page 29 of 29, and Theory of Operation page 1 of 4. The test report and test data have been revised to be consistent in the description of the antenna gains and to clarify the output power measurement. The “Professional Installation Manual” and the “Theory of Operations” have both been revised to describe the use of the attenuator or cable to ensure compliance with the EIRP limitations. 2 FYI no response needed. The operation of the hardware prevents the unit from transmitting on both antenna connectors at the same time. This is located on the Theory of Operation page 2 of 4 For certain applications only one antenna connector will be used to provide a connection to an antenna. When one antenna is connected to the EUT, it can be mounted on the EUT or used externally with an N connector through the enclosure. These installations require a trained installer to insure the operation of the unit is correct and meets the requirements of the FCC and Industry Canada (IC). We believe that the product has a very specific set of applications that make having the external N-type a necessity. For instance, in extreme cold weather conditions, the electronics of the radio unit will need to be sheltered from the elements to prevent its operating temperature from being sustained below 0 degrees for any length of time. An external cabling system will allow for this. With no active components in the antennas, the antenna can be mounted in the extreme elements, allowing the unit to operate normally while the radio unit is protected from the elements. In addition, as antenna technology improves, costs drop, and new antenna suppliers enter the market, we believe that this version of the product will allow us the flexibility needed to meet new requirements for these types of products and unforeseen user requirements. Any new antenna that will be used, inside the US and Canada, with this version of the product, will be tested and a permissive change submitted for approval before release to our Professional Installers. Before a qualified reseller/professional installer is allowed to purchase an external N-type connector version of this product, the reseller will 637 Adair Court ● Morgan Hill, CA ● 95037 Tel: 866-224-7292 ● Fax: 408-776-9583 certify that the unit will be used only with currently approved antenna’s for the AIRAYA AI108 product family with only a cable connected between the primary radio unit and the antenna. All qualified resellers in the US and Canada will sign an affidavit, agreeing, that any configuration of the AIRAYA AI108 with an external N-type connector, sold by them, will only be attached to an approved antenna for this version of the product. The reseller will provide the necessary Professional Installation to the end user guaranteeing that the unit does not exceed the output power requirements of the US and Canada. Also, the reseller and the Professional Installer will be responsible for guaranteeing that the end user has an FCC and IC approved configuration of the product. Training for the reseller and Professional Installer will be provided by AIRAYA. These training sessions will include the latest information on acceptable (approved) antenna’s for the AI108, path and the use of the encrypted access to on-board firmware. Sincerely, William G.
