REnex Technology Ltd ZcoRE3-2400 (ZcoRE3-2400/ZcoRE3(20)-2400) OEM Serial Wireless Transceiver Module User Manual Version 1.0 May, 2007 This manual covers the operations of the ZcoRE3-2400 family of serial OEM wireless transceiver modules. For the most part, operation of each product in the ZcoRE3-2400 family is identical; where operating differences exist, every effort has been made to clearly identify which product is being referred to. This manual is produced for users of the ZcoRE3-2400 OEM wireless transceiver module from REnex Technology Limited. It covers the operating principles and capabilities of the ZcoRE3-2400 module. It is recommended that you read this document before using the ZcoRE3-2400 module in order to operate it correctly and optimize its performance. WARRANTY REnex Technology’s ZcoRE3-2400 module is warranted against defect in materials and manufacturing for a period of two years from date of purchase. In the event of a product failure due to materials or workmanship, REnex will, at its discretion, repair or replace the product. REnex and its suppliers shall in no event be liable for any damages arising from the use of or inability to use this product. This includes business interruption, loss of business information, or other loss which may arise from the use of the product. WARNING Changes or modifications to this unit not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment. REMINDING This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. While using for ZcoRE3(20)-2400, precaution below is necessary: PRECAUTION 1. The installed antenna must not be located in a manner that allows exposure of the general population at a distance of less than 4cm. 2. Mount the antenna in a manner that prevents any personnel from entering the area within 4cm from the central position of the antenna. 3. It is recommended that the installer place radio frequency hazard warnings signs on the barrier that prevents access to the antenna. 4. Prior to installing the antenna to the antenna connector, make sure the power is adjusted to the settings specified in section of this manual. 5. During antenna installation, be sure that the power to the equipment is turned off in order to prevent any energy presence on the coaxial connector. Operational Description

Technical Description of Purpletooth TM ZcoRE3(20)-2400 OEM Modem This document is to describe the technical aspects of Purpletooth TM ZcoRE3(20)-2400 OEM modem. The key components of Purpletooth TM ZcoRE3(20)-2400 OEM modem can be categorized into following groups: • MCU & Digital parts o MCU (ATMEGA128L-8MU) o Crystal 8M o Voltage comparator (TLC3702ID) • Transceiver o Transceiver (EM2420) • RF parts o RF switch (AS179-92) o LNA (Max2641) o PA (SKY65131) o Filters o LDO (REG104-3.3) The detail operations of each part are described as follows: MCU & Digital part: The core part is Atmel MCU which embeds the SRAM and Flash memory. Its serial port provides the serial communication with other device. The SPI port provides the capacity to configure the RF transceiver. Transceiver: The Transceiver is responsible for the data modulation and demodulation. The transceiver is set or programmed by MCU via SPI serial port. The transceiver’s RF output provides the 2400M RF signal to antenna port, and receives the 2400M RF signal from antenna port. The transceiver also takes the control of TX/RX switch via the PA En and LNA En with the voltage comparator. RF parts: The RF parts include the power supply, upper link, down link and RF common path. The power supply provide the power to all RF parts, and can be shutdown by MCU when the modem sleep and be enable when modem wake up. The upper link path includes a PA. The TX packets send by MCU will be modulated by transceiver, and this RF output of transceiver will be amplified and transmitted through the RF antenna port. The down link path includes a filter and a LNA. The RF input through the antenna port will be amplified and filtered and then demodulated by transceiver. The transceiver will send the RX packets to MCU after demodulation. The RF common path includes the RF matching circuits, RF switch and antenna port. The two RF switches are controlled to serve the TDD function by transceiver and voltage comparator.

Where S = power density in mW/cm² P = transmit power in mW G = numeric gain of transmit antenna R = distance (cm) As we can see from the test report JSH007010358-002: The maximum P = 15.17dBm = 32.89mW G = 1.5dBi = 1.41 R is chosen to be 4cm S = PG / (πR²) = 32.89 * 1.41 / (4²*3.14) = 0.92 mW/cm² This level is below the 1 mW/cm² MPE for General Population / Uncontrolled Exposure as stated in OET BULLETIN 65 Edition 97-01. The installed antenna must not be located in a manner that allows exposure of the general population at a distance of less than 4cm. 2. Mount the antenna in a manner that prevents any personnel from entering the area within 4cm from the central position of the antenna. 3. It is recommended that the installer place radio frequency hazard warnings signs on the barrier that prevents access to the antenna. 4. Prior to installing the antenna to the antenna connector, make sure the power is adjusted to the settings specified in section of this manual. 5. During antenna installation, be sure that the power to the equipment is turned off in order to prevent any energy presence on the coaxial connector.
