RemoteRemote Keyfob Setup/Operations Manual INTRODUCTION The RemoteRemote keyfob is a simple 5 button RF wireless remote control. SETUP: Step 1: Carefully pop the case apart (use a small flat-blade screwdriver, or a thin piece of rigid plastic) Step 2: Remove the battery from the holder it came in. (Note the “+” symbol on the battery) Step 3: Insert the battery into the battery holder with the “+” symbol facing towards the metal battery bracket. Step 4: Carefully reinsert the board into the keyfob housing. Step 5: Snap the two keyfob halves back together. (it’s a tight fit, so take your time) LEARNING: The receiver was developed in such a way as to be able to learn new remotes (say if the original remote got lost and you bought a new one.) This process is relatively simple, but necessary before the receiver will recognize the remote. Once you have complete the setup steps above, you can proceed with the learning process. Note that some of these steps need to be done in a time-critical fashion, so you may want to read through the instructions first before attempting the procedure. Warning: Once a receiver has learned a keyfob transmitter, it CANNOT be unlearned! Step 1: At the same time, press and hold down the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons for 5 seconds (and then release) Step 2: Within an additional 5 seconds, press and release the Rewind, Fast Forward, and Play buttons (in that order) Step 3: Now press and hold the Play button for an additional 5 seconds (and then release) Step 4: Your receiver should now have learned your new remote. TROUBLESHOOTING If there is no activity at the receiver you should try these troubleshooting tips: 1.) Make sure the receiver is on. 2.) Is the battery new? Does it need to be replaced? 3.) If you put in a new battery, was it inserted with the correct orientation (+ towards the metal bracket) 4.) Has the receiver learned the keyfob remote? If not, go through the LEARNING process. 5.) If these steps still don’t help, please contact us. FCC STATEMENT This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Microcontroller (HC908QT1) Remote Keyfob block diagram Transistor / Tuned LC Oscillator P O W E R (Internal 3.2Mhz osc) (Nominal 315Mhz OOK Transmit Freq.) (5 Pushbutton Keys) (3v Lithium Batt.) Keyfob Transmit Timing Manchester Encoding. The RemoteRemote Keyfob uses a small microcontroller to Manchester “encode” its data before transmission. For the Keyfob, the period of each bit is 500uS, with a “1” being high for the first 250uS, and then low for the next 250uS of a period. A “0” is indicated by a low for the first 250uS, followed by a high for 250uS. 110 1 1 0 1 500uS 0 500uS A complete frame of transmitted data consists of a “Front Porch” (2mS high followed by 1mS low), Sync Byte (8 bits), Control Byte (8 bits), Serial Number (16 bits), Command Byte (8 bits), Checksum (8 bits). Further, if the user holds a key down, it will repeat this pattern every 100ms, for up to 4 seconds. So, the total number of transmitted bits is 8+8+16+8+8 = 48. Total data period is 3ms (Front Porch ) + 48 * 500uS = 27ms Total high (on) time is 2ms (Front Porch) + 48 * 250uS = 14 mS.

RemoteRemote Keyfob Circuit Description The RemoteRemote Keyfob is a simple On/Off Keyed keyfob-style transmitter with an internal, integrated patch antenna. The keyfob receives its power from a small 3v Lithium button cell battery. The keyfob is normally in sleep mode until the user presses one of 5 buttons, which wakes the microcontroller (MC68HC908QT1 - operating at 3.2Mhz), and sends out manchester encoded data to the transmitter. The transmitter portion of the device is a simple printed circuit LC tuned-tank transistor oscillator operating at a nominal frequency of 315Mhz.

RADIATION INTERFERENCE: The test procedure used was ANSI STANDARD C63.4-1992 using a HEWLETT PACKARD spectrum analyzer with a pre-selector. The bandwidth of the spectrum analyzer was 100 kHz with an appropriate sweep speed. The analyzer was calibrated in dB above a microvolt at the output of the antenna. The resolution bandwidth was 100KHz and the video bandwidth was 300KHz. The ambient temperature of the UUT was 98.3ºF with a humidity of 40%. FORMULA OF CONVERSION FACTORS: The Field Strength at 3m was established by adding the meter reading of the spectrum analyzer (which is set to read in units of dBuV) to the antenna correction factor supplied by the antenna manufacturer. The antenna correction factors are stated in terms of dB. The gain of the Preselector was accounted for in the Spectrum Analyzer Meter Reading. Example: Freq (MHz) METER READING + ACF = FS 33 20 dBuV + 10.36 dB = 30.36 dBuV/m @ 3m ANSI STANDARD C63.4-1992 10.1.7 MEASUREMENT PROCEDURES: The UUT was placed on a table 80 cm high and with dimensions of 1m by 1.5m. The UUT was placed in the center of the table. The table used for radiated measurements is capable of continuous rotation. The spectrum was scanned from 30 MHz to 10th harmonic of the fundamental. Peak readings were taken in three (3) orthogonal planes and the highest readings were converted to average readings based on the duration of "ON" time. When an emission was found, the table was rotated to produce the maximum signal strength. At this point, the antenna was raised and lowered from 1m to 4m. The antenna was placed in both the horizontal and vertical planes. Measurements were made by TIMCO ENGINEERING INC. at the registered open field test site located at 849 N.W. State Road 45, Newberry, Fl 32669.
