Aerolink Preliminary Manual 8/26/2006 The Aerolink receiver and keyfob is a simple 5-button radio-frequency (RF) wireless remote control for the Apple iPod®. CONTENTS This Users’ Guide 5-button Aerolink transmitter Aerolink receiver 3-volt Lithium battery (CR2032) REQUIREMENTS Apple iPod (w/dock connector) Headphones, powered speakers, or stereo receiver Please follow these simple setup instructions -INSTALLING THE KEYFOB BATTERY- 1. Carefully separate the top and bottom halves of the keyfob. A thin piece of plastic or a small screwdriver works best. 2. Insert the battery into the pc board, with the “+” symbol facing up towards the metal battery bracket. 3. Replace the green pc board within the fob, and snap the two keyfob halves back together. (It’s a tight fit, so take your time.) -CONNECTING THE RECEIVER TO THE iPod- 1. Insert the receiver into the 30pin dock connector of the iPod, making sure it is firmly seated. NOTE: The receiver draws its power from the iPod, even when the iPod is off. If the iPod is not to be used for a while, or is not being charged, unplug the receiver to prevent draining the iPod battery. -SYNCING THE RECEIVER AND KEYFOB- It is not necessary to sync the keyfob and receiver to be able to use them. If however you wish to exclusively pair the keyfob to the receiver, please follow these instructions: 1. Make sure that your iPod is charge and on. 2. Attach the receiver to the iPod’s bottom (dock) connector 3. On the keyfob, press and hold the play/pause button (4) for 10 seconds, then release. The receiver should now have “learned” the keyfob. If the receiver and iPod fail to operate properly at this point, try repeating the sync procedure. Note that each receiver can work with up to 5 keyfobs, and each keyfob can work with any number of receivers. BASIC OPERATION: 1 Volume Up 2 Previous Track (hold for Fast Rewind) 3 Volume Down 4 Play / Pause (hold to turn iPod off) 5 Next Track (hold for Fast Forward) LOCKING THE KEYFOB To prevent the keyfob from transmitting, for example, when it is in your pocket, you can lock the keypad. Once the keypad is locked, the keyfob will not control your iPod until it is unlocked. 1. Move the slide switch on the side of the keyfob so that the red dot is showing. The keyfob is now locked and will not transmit. UNLOCKING THE KEYFOB 1. Move the slide switch on the side of the keyfob so that the red dot is NOT showing. The keyfob is not unlocked and will transmit when you depress any button. TROUBLESHOOTING If there is no iPod activity using the RemoteRemote you should try these troubleshooting tips: 1. Is the iPod battery charged and the iPod otherwise operational? 2. Is the keyfob battery installed correctly? 3. Does the keyfob battery need to be replaced? 4. Is the keyfob locked? If so, unlock it as noted previously. 5. Is the receiver correctly and firmly seated to the iPOD? 6. If these steps still don’t help, please contact us at “[email protected]”. (5 Pushbutton Keys) (3v Lithium Batt.) Power switch Keyfob Transmit Timing Manchester Encoding. The Aerolink keyfob uses Manchester Encoding to “encode” its data before transmission. For the Keyfob, the period of each bit is 500uS, with a “1” being high for the first 250uS, and then low for the next 250uS of a period. A “0” is indicated by a low for the first 250uS, followed by a high for 250uS. 110 1 1 0 1 500uS 0 500uS A complete frame of transmitted data consists of a “Front Porch” (0.5mS high, followed by 0.5mS low, followed by 2.0ms high), Serial Number (8 bits), Command Byte (8 bits), and ending with a CRC check byte (8 bits). Further, if the user holds a key down, it will repeat this pattern every 100ms So, the total number of transmitted bits is 8+8+8 = 24. Total data period is 2.0ms (Front Porch ) + 24 * 500uS = 14ms Total high (on) time approximately 2.5ms (Front Porch) + 24 * 250uS = 8.5ms.
Aerolink Keyfob Circuit Description The Aerolink Keyfob is a simple On/Off Keyed keyfob-style transmitter with an internal, integrated pcb-trace style antenna. The keyfob receives its power from a small 3v Lithium button cell battery (type CR2032). When the power switch is off, there will be no activity when pushing any of the buttons. However, when the power switch is on, the keyfob is normally in sleep mode until the user presses one of 5 buttons, which wakes the microcontroller. The microcontroller, operating at 3.2Mhz, wakes up and sends out manchester encoded data to the transmitter section. The transmitter section consists of a SAW resonator stabilized printed circuit LC tuned-tank transistor oscillator operating at a nominal frequency of 433.92Mhz.

The bandwidth of the spectrum analyzer was 100 kHz with an appropriate sweep speed. The analyzer was calibrated in dB above a microvolt at the output of the antenna. The resolution bandwidth was 100 kHz and the video bandwidth was 300 kHz. The ambient temperature of the UUT was 98ºF with a humidity of 40%. FORMULA OF CONVERSION FACTORS: The Field Strength at 3m was established by adding the meter reading of the spectrum analyzer (which is set to read in units of dBuV) to the antenna correction factor supplied by the antenna manufacturer. The antenna correction factors are stated in terms of dB. The gain of the Preselector was accounted for in the Spectrum Analyzer Meter Reading. Example: Freq (MHz) METER READING + ACF = FS 33 20 dBuV + 10.36 dB = 30.36 dBuV/m @ 3m ANSI STANDARD C63.4-2003 10.1.7 MEASUREMENT PROCEDURES: The UUT was placed on a table 80 cm high and with dimensions of 1m by 1.5m. The UUT was placed in the center of the table. The table used for radiated measurements is capable of continuous rotation. The spectrum was scanned from 30 MHz to 10th harmonic of the fundamental. Peak readings were taken in three (3) orthogonal planes and the highest readings were converted to average readings based on the duration of "ON" time. When an emission was found,…
