FCC ID: R68WIBOX Answers to the ATCB comments on the above referenced Application. 1) The block diagram should show the frequencies of all oscillators in the TX device (CFR 2.1033(a)(5)), unless this portion of the device is an OEM part. Please provide either the block diagram for the TX portion, or alternatively provide a parts list that shows that this part is provided by another manufacturer. If necessary, you may add the parts list to the confidentiality exhibit. Refer to “Bill of Materials” exhibit. 2) The cover letter with this application mentions limited modular approval, but the application does not appear to address modular approval. For example, a cover letter addressing each of the modular issues as specified by the FCC public notice (see attached) has not been provided. Please clarify if a modular approval is being requested and correct or provide the necessary exhibits. Refer to “Letter - Cover (FCC), Rev. A, 07-27-04” exhibit. This application is for a portable certification. 3) Please provide photographs of the transceiver contained in the subshielded enclosure (top and bottom views of the TX board(s)). Refer to “Photographs - Internal (Rev. A, 07-27-04)”. 4) The schematics should be for the TX portion of the device, unless this portion of the device is an OEM part. Please provide either the schematics for the TX portion, or alternatively provide a parts list that shows that this part is provided by another manufacturer. If necessary, you may add the parts list to the confidentiality exhibit.\ Refer to “Bill of Materials” exhibit. 5) Please add photographs of the antenna being approved to the external photograph exhibit. Refer to “Photographs - External (Rev. A, 07-27-04)” exhibit. 6) Please note that the FCC no longer desires that the safe distance for mobile devices be calculated in the RF exposure exhibit if the safe distance is < 20 cm, but instead prefers the power density results to be calculated at 20 cm and compared to the power density limit. Please adjust the RF exposure exhibit. Additionally, please use the highest power measured for this calculation (16.5 dBm) Refer to “MPE Calculations (Rev. A, 07-27-04)” exhibit. 7) Please provide an operational description exhibit for this application. Refer to “Operational Description” exhibit. 8) Please confirm the test distance used for measurements > 1 GHz. FCC ID: R68WIBOX Answers to the ATCB comments on the above referenced Application. 1) The Bill of Materials provided does not appear to show the module manufacturer. If schematics and block diagrams of the module can not be provided, it is expected the manufacturer is not Lantronix. This should be shown. Refer to “Bill of Materials (Rev. A, 08-05-04)”. 2) The FCC requires all shields/subshields be removed in the internal photograph exhibit ot the TX. Please provide an additional photograph of the one daughter board of the TX with the subshield removed. Refer to “Photographs - Internal (Rev. B, 08-05-04)” page 9. 3) Please clarify if you wish for confidentiality on the Operational Description provided. This was not requested on the new confidentiality letter provided. If so, please update the confidentiality letter. Refer to “Letter – Confidentiality (Rev. B, 08-05-04)”. 4) The operational description mention up to 14 channels of operation. Please explain what precautions are built into the system (hardware and/or software) to keep the end user from adjusting to channels not allowed in the U.S. (reference 15.15(b)). Refer to “Letter - Channel Restriction in US”. 5) Your last response mentioned this is being approved for a portable configuration (items 2). Note that by the nature of the device and the MPE exhibit provided, this denotes a mobile configuration. Portable is defined as used closer to the user than 20 cm and there requires SAR. Please confirm. It will be approved as a mobile device.

MPE Calculations Systems operating under the provision of 47 CFR 1.1307(b)(1) shall be operated in a manor that ensures that the public is not exposed to radio frequency energy levels in excess of the FCC guidelines. The EUT will only be used with a separation of 20 centimeters or greater between the antenna and the body of the user or nearby persons and can therefore be considered a mobile transmitter per 47 CFR 2.1091(b). The MPE calculation for this exposure is shown below. Using the Wanshih Antennas @ 2.4 GHz Range with highest output power: The peak radiated output power (EIRP) is calculated as follows: EIRP = P + G EIRP = 16.50dBm + 2.15 dBi EIRP = 18.65 dBm (73.28 mW) Where P = Power input to the antenna (mW). G = Power gain of the antenna (dBi) Power density at the specific separation: S = PG/(4R 2 π) S = (44.67x 1.64) / (4 x 20 2 x π) S = 0.015 mW/cm 2 Where S = Maximum power density (mW/cm 2 ) P = Power input to the antenna (mW). G = Numeric power gain of the antenna R = Distance to the center of the radiation of the antenna (20cm = limit for MPE) The maximum permissible exposure (MPE) for the general population is 1mW/cm 2 . The power density at 20cm does not exceed the 1mW/cm 2 limit. Therefore, the exposure condition is compliant with FCC rules. The numeric gain (G) of the antenna with a gain specified in dB is determined by: G = Log -1 (dB antenna gain/10) G = Log -1 (2.15 dBi/10) G = 1.64
