Failure to comply with these precautions or with specific warnings elsewhere in this manual violates safety standards of design, manufacture and intended use of the equipment. Cobham SATCOM assumes no liability for the customer's failure to comply with these requirements. Do not operate in an explosive atmosphere Do not operate the equipment in the presence of flammable gases or fumes. Operation of any electrical equipment in such an environment constitutes a definite safety hazard. Keep away from live circuits Operating personnel must not remove equipment covers. Component replacement and internal adjustment must be made by qualified maintenance personnel. Do not replace components with the power cable connected. Under certain conditions, dangerous voltages may exist even with the power cable removed. To avoid injuries, always disconnect power and discharge circuits before touching them. Do not service alone Do not attempt internal service or adjustments unless another person, capable of rendering first aid resuscitation, is present. Do not substitute parts or modify equipment Because of the danger of introducing additional hazards, do not substitute parts or perform any unauthorized modification to the equipment. Keep away from antenna front This device emits radio frequency energy when switched on. To avoid injury, keep a minimum safety distance of 60 cm from the antenna front when the EXPLORER 510 is on. Only use approved batteries from Cobham SATCOM Use of non approved batteries may result in explosion, fire, electrical shock or injury. Observe marked areas Under extreme heat conditions do not touch areas of the EXPLORER 510 that are marked with this symbol, as it may result in injury. Antenna safety instructions 98-143082-DraftA6iv Antenna safety instructions2 Use only manufacturer supplied antennas. Antenna minimum safe distance: 0.6 m Antenna gain Directional, with maximum gain of 11 dBi (with reference to isotropic). The Federal Communications Commission has adopted a safety standard for human exposure to RF (Radio Frequency) energy which is below the OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) limits. Antenna mounting The antenna supplied by the manufacturer must be located such that during radio transmission, no person or persons can come closer than the above indicated minimum safe distance to the front face of the antenna, i.e. 0.6 m. To comply with current FCC RF Exposure limits, the antenna must be installed at or exceeding the minimum safe distance shown above, and in accordance with the requirements of the antenna manufacturer or supplier. Antenna substitution Do not use any other antenna than the models supplied or recommended by the manufacturer. You may be exposing people to excess radio frequency radiation. You may contact the manufacturer for further instructions. Radiation warning You, as the qualified end-user of this radio device, must control the exposure conditions of bystanders to ensure the minimum separation distance (above) is maintained between the antenna and nearby persons, for satisfying RF Exposure compliance. The operation of this transmitter must satisfy the requirements of General Population/ Uncontrolled Environment. Only use the terminal when persons are at least the minimum distance from the front face of the antenna. WARNING!Maintain a separation distance of at least 0.6 m from the front face of the antenna to a person. RF Exposure Info

2015-04-23 Page 1 of 2 Prediction of MPE and ERP/ EIRP As to the TT-3711A BGAN satellite terminal made by Thrane & Thrane A/S, we declare that it complies with the Basic restrictions/Reference levels for electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields as specified in the following standards for a minimum safety distance of 0.6 m: Nr. Standard Country/Region 1 47CFR FCC Part 1 (10-1-13 Edition) USA 2 RSS-102 (Issue 4, March 2010) Canada 3 EN 62311 / ICNIRP Guideline EU 4 Radiocommunications (Electromagnetic Radiation-Human Exposure) Standard 2003 AUS/NZ The compliance is demonstrated based on the following calculation model assessment: 1. The power density according to far-field model is: where: S = power density (in appropriate units, e.g. mW/cm2) P = power input to the antenna (in appropriate units, e.g., mW) G = power gain of the antenna in the direction of interest relative to an isotropic radiator R = distance to the center of radiation of the antenna (appropriate units, e.g., cm) 2. For single or multiple RF sources, the calculated power density should comply with the following: 1... lim2lim 2 1lim 1 1 lim   n eqneqeq n n eqn S S S S S S S S where: S eqn = the power density when f is i. S lim n = the reference level requirement for power density when f is i 3. The calculation of the power density or safe distance is: Note 1 The RF exposure is based on the far-field and the radiation exposure is over-estimated. Note 2 The maximum output power level is taken into account as a worst case for the purpose of the calculation of power density or safe distance. Note 3 The minimum antenna feed cable loss (assumed no cable loss) is taken into account as a worst case for the purpose of the calculation of power density or safe distance Note 4 The maximum antenna radiation exposure orientation and maximum antenna gain is taken into account as a worst case for the purpose of the calculation of power density and safe distance. 2 4R PG S   Test report no.: 1-8390/14-01-07 2015-04-23 Page 2 of 2 Calculation for Inmarsat (frequency band 1626.5 – 1660.5 MHz): S ≤ 푷∙푮 ( 푬푰푹푷 ) ∙풕∙푫풄 ퟒ∙흅∙푹 ퟐ = 9.21 W/m 2 푺 푺 풍풊풎 ≤ 0.921 (less than 1, compliant) Where: EIRP (푃∙퐺) = 33.11 W = 15.2 dBW (45.2 dBm) according to test report 1-8390/14-01-05 t = Tune up tolerance (±1.0 dB) Dc = --- R ≥ 0.60 m S lim = 10 W/m 2 Calculation for WLAN (frequency band 2402 – 2483 MHz) : S ≤ 푷∙푮 ( 푬푰푹푷 ) ∙풕∙푫풄 ퟒ∙흅∙푹 ퟐ = 0.0080 W/m 2 푺 푺 풍풊풎 ≤ 0.00080 (less than 1, compliant) Where: EIRP (푃∙퐺) = 0.029 W (14.6 dBm) according to test report 1-8390/14-01-09 t = Tune up tolerance (±1.0 dB) Dc = 1:1 R ≥ 0.60 m S lim = 10 W/m 2 Declaration prepared by: Thomas Vogler Professional Radio Communications & EMC
