You can make and receive voice calls on the control handset and the analogue PSTN telephone. You can connect up to four handsets and one analogue PSTN telephone or PBX switchboard to the system. The system provides intercom for internal calls between any control handsets and between the analogue telephone and a control handset. Via the data port on the transceiver, the unit can be used as a data modem for dial-up data calls, Internet access, SMS and E-mail messaging. Important! For FCC RF exposure compliance, the antenna must be installed with a minimum distance of 0.61m (2 feet) away from all persons. About this Manual This manual provides instructions on how to operate a control handset, an analogue telephone and on using the transceiver as a data modem. The instructions on operating the handset are divided into two parts. The first part deals with Basic operation, which includes e.g. making and answering calls. The second part describes the more advanced functions of the system. All functions of your Iridium equipment can be operated by following the step by step procedures described in this manual. Each procedure is an explicit sequence of key presses that has to be carried out. Unless otherwise specified, the description of the individual procedures has been based on the assumption that the handset is enabled and is displaying either “Ready” or “Ready Internal” in the display. This state is through out the manual referred to as ready state. We recommend that you read the manual before using the equipment. Iridium Satellite System Iridium is a global satellite network for telecommunications. It consists of 66 satellites providing world-wide coverage. The Iridium system makes it possible for any two locations on Earth to establish wireless global telephone contact. You will need an Iridium subscription with an active Subscriber Identification Module (SIM card). The SIM card holds your phone number and the phone number will thus follow the SIM card if used in another Iridium equipment. You can buy a subscription from one of the Iridium Service Partners. The Iridium Service Partners can be found on www.iridium.com . Different services are available from the service partners, for example Crew Calling, Pre and Post Paid subscriptions. Operational Description

Thrane & Thrane A/S 08 April 2005 Operational description Fixed Mount Iridium Transceiver ST4120 Product description The ST4120 Iridium transceiver is a Maritime satellite phone making use of the Motorola 9522 L-Band Transceiver (LBT). The LBT is a voice and data modem working in the 1610- 1626MHz band. The ST4120 features connection of: 10-32VDC input (Build-in SMPS power supply) ST4150 Control Handsets PSTN analogue phone or PABX Data Terminal 2.4kb/s GPS NMEA 0183 input Antenna Unit The ST4120 transceiver unit, ST4150 Control handsets and phones are meant for installation below deck. The Antenna Unit is build for installation above deck. Iridium network The Iridium Satellite System is the only provider of truly global, truly mobile satellite voice and data solutions with complete coverage of the Earth (including oceans, airways and Polar regions). Through a constellation of 66 low-earth orbiting (LEO) satellites operated by Boeing, Iridium delivers essential communications services to and from remote areas where terrestrial communications are not available. The service is ideally suited for industrial applications such as heavy construction, defense/military, emergency services, maritime, mining, forestry, oil and gas and aviation. Peter Harbo Olesen Page 1 of 4 Thrane & Thrane A/S 08 April 2005 Voice and data calls can be made between two Iridium subscriber units over the satellite constellation. Calls from any Iridium subscriber unit can be originated to a land PSTN phone via the commercial Iridium gateway located in Tempe, Arizona, US. ST4120 Operational description The ST4120 Iridium equipment is a modular system that consists of a transceiver unit, control handset unit, antenna unit and an optional analogue PSTN telephone/PABX. A GPS can be connected to the transceiver unit for displaying geographical location in the control handset. Background for re-test The present Motorola 9522 L-Band Transceiver is now obsolete due to obsolete components. A new version of the LBT has been developed by Iridium Satellite LLC. This version is called Daytona and the type designation is 9522A. Peter Harbo Olesen Page 2 of 4 Thrane & Thrane A/S 08 April 2005 The specifications are all the same except for the communication interface to the LBT. The former multi node DSC bus is now replaced by a DPL bus, which is a point to point bus. Electrically the bus operates on RS232 levels. The impact of this change is the need of a router that can route the signals between the LBT and the external SIM card reader and the phone interface on the EuroCom equipment. This router is made by use of an additional micro controller, which also will handle the interface to the SIM card reader. Technical data. Maximum output Rf power 7 W Antenna gain 3 dB equals 2 times Antenna pattern Hemispherical Frequency 1.616 – 1.626 GHz r = safety distance from the antenna placed at x emitting Rf radiation in an hemispherical pattern Surface area of the hemisphere S = 2 r² The calculation is absolutely worst case situation due to the fact that the output RF power is lower due to the pulsing (TDMA system) transmission. The calculation uses the case if the transmission was a continuous operation. Power x Antenna gain 7000 x 2 Formula r = Surface x Rf limit = 2 x x 1 = 0.47m The safety distance is therefore stated as 2 feet equals 0.61m > 0.47m The safety distance is stated in the manuals x r

Power output listed is conducted. The modulation duty cycle during normal operation is 9.2%. The device is a mobile unit. For satisfying MPE categorical exclusion requirements of 2.1091, the supplied 3dBi helix antenna shall be installed to provide a minimum separation distance of 47 cm or more from all persons and must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter. Users and installers must be provided with antenna installation instructions and transmitter operating conditions for satisfying RF exposure compliance. This is an interim Grant of Certification based on compliance with all relevant portions of Parts 1, 2 and 25 as specified in the NPRM for GEN Docket 98-68 adopted on May 14, 1998. This interim approval is granted on the basis that final approval must satisfy the requirements and procedures adopted in future FCC GMPCS-MoU implementation proceeding, including the specific spurious and out-of-band emission limits adopted in this proceeding.
