General Introduction This Chapter provides a general overview of the SoftGate AP/Router's features and specifications. Thank you for choosing SoftGate® wireless solution. SoftGate® is the first AP-less series family product to utilize an existing computer to become a wireless AP and Router with the management capability. SoftGate® can provide four functions (4- in-1): Router, AP, Bridge, and WLAN Client. Through SoftGate®, users can share internet connection and PC’s resources such as files, Hard Disk storage, MP3 music, printers, CD/DVD ROM...etc. A wireless Local LAN connection can be easily built using SoftGate® technology. SoftGate® is the first technology that truly removes the limitation of wireless base station (AP/Router). There are two major functions added in this version: Client Management and Time Management. Client Management SoftGate® has a unique patent for user to manage individual client. SoftGate® console screen will update immediately if there is any new client login to SoftGate®. This feature is not possible to accomplish by using a traditional AP(or dedicated hardware AP). For traditional AP, user must go through a complicated procedure in order to get only the client’s MAC address. Traditional or dedicated hardware AP can get only the client’s MAC address. SoftGate®, on the other hand, can easily provide the full client information including Computer Name, IP address and MAC address. Time Management SoftGate® is able to let user manage the client by time. SoftGate® is not only provide the limiting hours that client can access SoftGate® but also the exact hour to login. Most importantly is that SoftGate® operates on each individual client. Hence, the operation on the client will not disturb other clients normal operation. 1.1 SoftGate Features 1.1 z 4 in 1 Device— Integrates Router, AP, Bridge, and WLAN client into your system. z Easy Installation & Expansion— Simple, affordable and flexible solution break through your wireless limitation. z Complete Mobility— Small size, portable wireless AP, Router, and WLAN client. z Mode Switch— Mode switching can be as easy as one mouse click. It will take less than one minute to switch between the mode operations. z Wireless Bridge — SoftGate® can share the Internet connection via another standard wireless device in the same system, It's useful for hotspot (Mobile city) network environment. z Intelligent device— Auto-detect and configuration at installation. There is a minimum to no knowledge required to setup a wireless environment. In the client mode, SoftGate ® will auto detect and connect to available AP/Router. z Time Management —SoftGate ® can manage clients according to time limitation. You can easily setup a time limitation for each individual user. The time operation on each individual user will not disturb other clients’ normal operation. z Share Folder— SoftGate ® will make share folders easier than ever. SoftGate® instantaneously allow user to share the Hard Disk information with the clients. It will assume maximum allowance to access the Hard Disk. Once, the SoftGate® is shutdown, than the shared folders turn off automatically. It will prevent the information being access without user awareness. z Save and Load— Each configuration can be saved independently. User can re-load the profile at the proper environment. z Flexible WLAN adapter selected— SoftGate ® can let users select to share different broadband Internet connection, such as RJ45, wireless connection, dial-up, or 1394 connection. z Support multiple languages— SoftGate ® can let users to choose different language at installation. If the signal to noise radio is too poor which could not support 54Mbps, the 11Mbps data rate with DSSS technique will be applied. The transmitter of the EUT is powered by host equipment. Introduction In this document, we try to prove the safety of radiation harmfulness to the human body for our product. The limit for Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) specified in FCC 1.1310 is followed. The Gain of the antenna used in this product is measured in a Fully Anechoic Chamber (FAC) calibrated for antenna measurement in ADT, and also the maximum total power input to the antenna is measured. Through the Friis transmission formula and the maximum gain of the antenna, we can calculate the distance, away from the product, where the limit of MPE is reached. Although the Friis transmission formula is a far field assumption, the calculated result of that is an over-prediction for near field power density. We will take that as the worst case to specify the safety range. 2.
