1 SP-6402 Synthesized Scanning Radio FCC RF EXPOSURE COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR OCCUPATIONAL USE ONLY The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), with its action in General Docket 93-62, November 7, 1997, has adopted a safety standard for human exposure to Radio Frequency (RF) electromagnetic energy emitted by FCC regulated equipment. Topaz3 / Legacy subscribes to the same safety standard for the use of its products. Proper operation of this radio will result in user exposure far below the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and Federal Communications Commission limits. DO NOT transmit for more than 50% of total radio use time (50% duty cycle). Transmitting more than 50% of the time can cause FCC RF exposure compliance requirements to be exceeded. This radio is NOT approved for use by the general population in an uncontrolled environment. This radio is restricted to occupational use, work related operations only where radio operator must have the knowledge to control the userβs exposure conditions for satisfying the higher exposure limit allowed for occupational use. When transmitting, hold the radio in a vertical position with its microphone 1 inches (2.5 cm) away from your mouth. The radio is transmitting when the red LED on the front of the radio is illuminated. You can cause the radio to transmit by pressing the PTT bar on the radio. These are required operating configurations for meeting FCC RF exposure compliance.Failure to observe these restrictions mean violation. Operating Instructions About Your SP-6402 Radio Maxon's SP-6402 radio feature up to 13 groups and up to 16 channel operation per group for a total channel capacity of 208 channels of superior performance and reliability. Operation and functions for Maxon's SP-6402 radios are described in this manual. We urge you to thoroughly read this manual before operating the radio. Application of some of the functions described in this manual is determined by the system you use. Your Maxon Dealer will program your radio so that you have the greatest number of functions possible relative to your needs. Should you have questions regarding the operation of the radio please consult your Maxon Dealer. 2 SP-6402 Specification MODEL: SP- 6402 MODEL CODE: EQUIPMENT TYPE: Handportable PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS: TIA/EIA-603 BAND: UHF2(440~470Mhz) CHANNEL SPACINGS: 12.5KHz, 25KHz PROGRAMMBLE RF OUTPUT POWER: 5 / 1 WATT MODULATION TYPE: F3E AUDIO POWER: 500mW ( EXT WITH 16 OHM) 1W ( INT WITH 4 OHM) INTERMEDIATE FREQUENCY: 45.1MHz 455KHz CHANNELS: 208 Channel FREQUENCY SOURCE: SYNTHESIZER POWER SUPPLY: Li-ION 7.5 VDC NOMINAL EXTREME +/- 10% VDC EXTREME Table of Contents Safety Information.................................................................. (c) 1992 by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., New York, New York 10017.[2] The measurement procedure described in IEEE/ANSI C95.3-1992 Recommended Practice for the Measurement of Potentially Hazardous Electromagnetic Fields - RF and Microwave[3] is used for guidance in measuring SAR due to the RF radiation exposure from the Equipment Under Test (EUT). These criteria for SAR evaluation are similar to those recommended by the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) in Biological Effects and Exposure Criteria for Radio frequency Electromagnetic Fields,β NCRP Report No. 86 (c) NCRP, 1986, Bethesda, MD 20814β¦

The SAR value at a fixed location above the ear point was measured and was used as a reference value for assessing the power drop. 2. The SAR distribution at the exposed side of the head was measured at a distance of 3.9mm from the inner surface of the shell. The area covered the entire dimension of the head and the horizontal grid spacing was 20mm x 20mm. Based on this data, the area of the maximum absorption was determined by spline interpolation. 3. Around this point, a volume of 32mm x 32mm x 34mm was assessed by measuring 5 x 5 x 7 points. On this basis of this data set, the spatial peak SAR value was evaluated with the following procedure: a. The data at the surface were extrapolated, since the center of the dipoles is 2.7mm away from the tip of the probe and the distance between the surface and the lowest measuring point is 1.2mm. The extrapolation was based on a least square algorithm [13]. A polynomial of the fourth order was calculated through the points in z-axes. This polynomial was then used to evaluate the points between the surface and the probe tip. b. The maximum interpolated value was searched with a straight-forward algorithm. Around this maximum the SAR values averaged over the spatial volumes (1g or 10g) were computed using the 3D-Spline interpolation algorithm. The 3D-spline is composed of three one-dimensional splines with the βNot a knotβ condition (in x,y, and z directions) [13][14]. The volume was integrated with the trapezoidal algorithm. One thousand points (10 x 10 x 10) were interpolated to calculate the average. c. All neighboring volumes were evaluated until no neighboring volume with a higher average value was found. Fig. 10.
