The module offers the user a compact size, ruggedized connections, and an on-board antenna. The module is designed to work with your sensor applications by offering UART communications, 3 general-purpose I/O ports, one 12-bit Analog-to-Digital port, and a SPI compatible interface to operate a peripheral device. The module also offers a 6MHz and a 32.768kHz watch crystal for your timing needs. The AXON™ Module is Synaptrix™ ready and ZigBee™ ready. Synaptrix™ is IWT’s mesh-networking software stack. Interfaced to the programmer board, the module offers a practical design environment that allows for fast debug and easy access to the programmable interfaces. Connection to the AXON™ Module should always be made through the 20 pin header. Connection to the AXON™ Module any other way not expressed in this documentation or approved by Innovative Wireless Technologies, Inc. will void the user’s ability to operate this device under the FCC certification. The header on the AXON™ Module is a SAMTEC FTMH-110-02-L-DH, and mate connection is CLM-110-02-L-D. 2. The AXON™ Module may not be co-located with any other transmitter or antenna. 3. The AXON™ Module is approved using the FCC “Unlicensed modular transmitter approval” method. Therefore the AXON™ Module must only be used with the originally approved antenna(s). As long as the 3 conditions above are met, further transmitter testing will not be required. However, the OEM integrator is still responsible for testing their end-product for any additional compliance requirements required with this module installed (for example, digital device emissions, PC peripheral requirements, etc.). The AXON™ Module regulates its voltage on board, but must be supplied a voltage between 3.3-6 Volts. The table below outlines the 20 pin interface to the AXON™ Module. The mechanical diagram that follows indicates where pin-1 starts. The AXON™ Programmer Board, used for prototype development, translates the UART signaling to PC levels. Innovative Wireless Technologies’ document “AXON™-Synaptrix™ Network Interface Specification” outlines the communication protocol utilized on the UART plus the over the air communication protocols for your peer-to-peer and mesh network configurations. Once the UART link has been correctly initialized, your device can then utilize the AXON™ Module to communicated information wirelessly to other AXON™ Modules. This allows the end user to quickly setup communication links between two or multiple devices. FCC ID: SP8-IWTBB1142 or SP8-WTBB1142 After a review of the submitted information, I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. 1) The FCC ID shown on the 731 for and label are different. Which are correct? Note that all cover letters, 731 and documents appear to support one FCC ID. Also, 2 different FCC ID’s are shown in the labeling exhibit. Please correct all documents as necessary. Response : The correct FCC ID is shown on the 731 form – SP8-IWTBB1142. A revised label exhibit has been uploaded. 2) Please provide the list of tunable frequencies associated with this device. Response : The list of tunable frequencies has been uploaded with this response. 3) Please explain the use of a 400 kHz high pass filter for AC power line conducted measurements when measurements are made down to 150 kHz. Response : This was a typographical error in the test report. Please see the revised test report uploaded with this response. 4) Radiated spurious emissions appear to be taken with 100 kHz RBW. FCC methods require a 1 MHz RBW. Response : Please see the revised test report uploaded with this response with emissions remeasured at 1MHz RBW. 5) Is this device being approved as a DTS of DSS device? 731 form states DSS, but test report supports DTS. Response : The device is being submitted as a DTS device. Please see the revised test report and 731 form uploaded with this response. 6) 6 dB bandwidth methods specify a 30 kHz RBW. FCC methods require a RBW of >=100 kHz. Response : Please see the revised report uploaded with this response for the correct plots. 7) Section 8.1 mentions average power, while the data appears as peak. Please clarify. Note that average power measurements requires a 30 dB attenuation of all non-restricted band signals instead of 20 dB. Response : The only use of the word “average” in section 8.1 is in the description of the power sensor: “E9323A Peak and Average Power Sensor”. Data presented in section 8.3 is peak power. 8) It is suggested that the users manual should be further updated for additional FCC issues. Some issues appear to already be covered. The AXON™ Module has shielding placed around the transceiver ASIC and its applicable passive components. 2. The AXON™ Module has buffered modulation/data inputs in the transceiver ASIC and the microcontroller located on the module. All external inputs go through the microcontroller before being passed to the transceiver section. 3. The AXON™ Module contains its own power regulatory circuitry. 4. The antenna on the AXON™ Module is permanently attached. The antenna is a chip antenna, P/N 2450AT18A100, from Johanson Technology. 5. The AXON™ Module has been tested by Rhein Tech Laboratories for Part 15 emissions compliance. The module was tested as a stand-alone transmitter complying with §15.247. 6. The AXON™ Module will have its own FCC ID label located on top of the shielding. Because of the module size only the words “FCC ID: SP8-IWTBB1142” can be used on the module label. 7. The users manual for the AXON™ Module outline the proper usage for the module and will be submitted with the application for equipment authorization. 8. The AXON™ Module is a low radiated power device, 1mW, and will not be operated in a manner as described by Table 1 of §1.1307(b)(1) that would expose the public to energy levels in excess of the Commision’s guidelines.
